The staff are pleasant & offer you a little scavenger hunt to complete to make the visit more enjoyable. They had a lot of interesting plaques, photos, & items of interest. They also had a nice array of photo props inside the main jail & scattered around the grounds. Additionally, the historical research was very informative of the demographic, climate, and age in which the jail was operational & for some time afterwards. For more insight, I recommend picking up a copy of "Within Adobe Walls" by Pete "Smokey" Dryer in the gift shop on your way out.

Great place to visit and learn about how it became and who are the prisoners and their history (which similar to current ones). How it opened and closed and how it developed through that small period. What you see now is just a portion of the original but you got the picture of how the life in prison back then. The guider was fantastic and he informed us all the infos and the background of all or majority of the prisoners. Definitely quite a place to visit plus this prison would considered the 2nd island prison in the US.

The park has bathrooms, picnic tables under a large pavilion, a play ground, and a sandy beach. There's even an outdoor shower for cleaning off the sand when you're done. On an August weekday around noon, there were multiple families at the park to lounge and swim. The bridge provides ample shade for sitting on the beach or swimming in the water. The water was clear and looked clean. Some kids had tied a rope swing to the bridge and were swing jumping into the water - so fun! Yuma is HOT and frankly quite ugly, without much to offer the passerby outside of food, fuel, and the prison (also worth a stop!!). Gateway Park is an exception - a beautiful spot and a great break point for the weary traveler. Bring swimsuits - you won't just want to dip your feet in!

Seemingly all the times we've been here the other groups of people have been very mellow. I mean, yes they're into their own get - togethers but the hootin' and hollerin' you'd expect from other beaches? Not so much here. The lake current is nice and strong; you could float on your back down the river if you wanted too. I got a good workout in there just crawling around and things. Like I said, most of the river is not as deep as after a rainfall. Recommended!

I agree with most of the Yelpers... this is a pretty weird place…read more Came in with my wife not really knowing what to expect. Parked and walked in amd noticed there was nobody around. It was really eerie. So my wife decided to give the office a call. She spoke to Felicia who was very friendly and welcoming. She gave us a quick tour and had is watch an informative video which made a bit more sense in terms of what this place was all about. Within minutes we made our way to the Puramid which why we stopped in the first place. We stepped on the center of the world, made a wish and received an official certificate. Afterwards, we made our way to the chapel on the hill. It provides a great view of the museum of granite and the pyramid. Lots of information is etched into the granite. You can't possibly read it all in one visit. There is also a maze. We didn't make it in as it was over 100 degrees! Was it worth the price of admission? Yes. Would I do it again? Yes, but probably when it is cooler. If we ever find ourselves here again, I'll make it a point to read everything.

They have a big gift shop with random knick-knacks. You pay $10 to explore the grounds which includes a tiny chapel on elevated mound of earth, a replica of a chapel in Brittany, France. They also have a beautiful display of granite blocks carved out like an encyclopedia of just about all kinds of things! Such an interesting place I definitely recommend you check out!

I use to love bringing my kid here. He'd have loads of fun and loved riding the go karts. But this…read moreplace has lost its spark. Our favorite food use to be the sampler & pizza. After eating we'd go mini golfing & then ride the go karts. I still remember when they had the batting cages running back in the good old days We visited during a slow day, and as usual, we ordered the sampler and a pizza. The sampler came first, 2 ranch and one marinara sauce in mini cups. The pizza came shortly after and was sat on an upside down plate, which was really odd. They use to put the pizza on a pizza stand before but I'm going to take a guess that convenience was at play here. Might as well set it on the table lol after being served we didn't see our waiter until the check came. It took a while so we decided to go up stairs to the arcade area and play a couple of games and then headed out to the go karts. To no one's surprise, it's still the same go karts as before. Kid's can't ride if they're under 52", considering places like San Diego, it's 48". The guy at the karts was kind enough to let us ride a bit longer than usual. This made it worth while. We didn't mini golf this time and playing in the arcades just wasn't worth it. The Star Wars game is nearly $2 per game. It's insane. The other games you're lucky if they even fully work. You end feeling scammed. You can tell this place is slowly losing its magic and it's because this place is not maintained at all. Not a huge deal but you have to make sure to tell the staff you are taking the drinks outside if you want to mini golf and have your drinks or else they'll complain and tell you that you're not allowed to take the drinks outside. The mini golf course area is missing patches of turf. I can't even remember the last time the speakers or games made noise. This place really needs to be brought back to life.

A group of us split into teams and played both golf courses;…read more it was a good time as it was an affordable way to have fun in the Yuma sun...in wintertime! Not overly crowded and the overall vibe was good.
