I was really lucky to go in to the historical society today because they are only open one day a…read moreweek and that was today Thursday. I met with a really nice woman who is originally from Chicago that settled here many years ago. She took me all through the little wooden cottage and told me the history of the home. It seems that a slave bought his freedom in the 1700s and built a home for his daughter at 1 time there were stairs and led to the 2nd floor attic which is pretty huge and I really wouldn't consider in an addict it seemed more like a loft to me and had 2 rooms. The stairs had been replaced so that you can walk up there and that's where I saw something that looked like a noose anging from the rafters. And soon as I entered the home I felt chills and Goosebumps all over my body. It was in a scary feeling or a bad feeling it was just a cold feeling or a chill. I got to see an old shoe from the 1700s and never realized that they made shoes not like they do today left and right foot but just general shoes for each foot which was interesting I really loved the little house it had its own charm. I would like to live in that house. The historical societie of damned and was easy to find and I really enjoyed meeting with the woman who was the curator I called her miss Shaw but her last name was not sure it was similar to that but that wasn't her last name. I bought a book that shows all of the historical sites in the town of Camden and I plan on seeing the majority of them tomorrow in the day time in my spare time. I am enjoying this little town so much I really hate when my time here ends and I have to go back home I'm going to miss this town terribly and the kindness and generosity of everyone I have met over the past 2 weeks Here.

It's a history lover's paradise . Archives and self guided museum can keep you here for hours…read moredepending on how deep down the history rabbit hole you want to go . If you are a gun enthusiast, you will appreciate the extensive firearms exhibit . If you are a dog lover , you will enjoy the Boykin Spaniel display. Boykins are South Carolina's state animal and their origins have ties to Camden. My favorite piece in the museum is the original iron weather vane of Camden's "patron saint" - a beloved Indian that went by the name King Hagler . He's much respected for the protection and alliance he provided to the original colonists . The original 1886 weather vane stood atop Camden's clock tower . Since 1974 there has been a replica there in its place with the original protected here at the museum. There is a public restroom, plenty of free parking and helpful staff to assist with any questions you may have . Definitely worth a stop .

I love history, so I make it a point to visit museums on the weekends I'm available! Beautiful well…read morekept museum inside/ out, very clean and organized. The customer service was awesome, educated and informative. I love interacting with people who have a passion for history, and actually love their chosen career path. I've heard alot of awesomeness about the displays that they have mthly. I went for the hair combs and basic history in the Camden area, but they did have a nice size gun display at the time. I believe they change the displays every few mths. Call or go online for updated information. This was well worth a stop, I learned something new. Make sure you stop at the African American Cultural Center, small but lots of information. Both museums are free and preserved. They do accept donations.

My family and I are having the worst experience on amtrak. The experience coming to Florida was…read morebad. But trying to get back home is a struggle. The train was due to come at 7:25pm. Then it said 7:38pm . Next was 7:51pm. We didn't leave at that time. We were stuck on the tracks in Columbia SC for about 4 1/2 hours. We arrived at Camden station at 10:02am 7/2/22. We were told that we have to wait for another round of staff to relieve the current staff that it would be an hour. Time goes past and we were told that staff would arrive at 1pm. Then 2pm, then 2pm. I called customer service and I was told 3:30pm. Keep in mind that the bathrooms were filled to the brim with pre and poop. Some of the doors were locked just to keep ppl from using them in that condition! Sitting for hours with uncertainty is very traumatic for someone with very high anxiety! We get maybe 5-10 minutes away from Camden in the middle of nowhere and stop. 6 minutes later an announcement is made saying that we are waiting for a conductor. Everyone on board is highly confused about what was done during the new staff arrival that we waiting 6 1/2 hours to come. I have had few panic attacks on this track! My head still hurts and I have new trama to work through due to this experience. It's not over yet. IM STILL CURRENTLY ON THE TRAIN WITH MY FAMILY. As I wipe the tears from my eyes in fear for how much longer will it be before we get home. And the fact that I can't even really do anything to relieve my children!!!! If you are thinking about using Amtrak as transportation leave 5-6 days before your really need to be at your destination. Have your therapist on speed dial. Pain pills or herbs for the pain your body will endure from being in the same positions for LONG periods of uncertain time. The food is also HORRIBLE! It's vending machine food. Burgers look like they came from dollar tree. Basic hotdog. Sandwich comes in a plastic pouch! The choices need to be better!!!! Lastly the staff passed out cheese it's and 8 oz bottle of water. Which was cool considering that's probably all the had to give customer. Amtrak must have a plan of action to compensate the passengers on the Silver 92 train going to New York. That picked us up from Orlando Florida
