I love the interactive activities and learning new things. We spend a couple of hours here walking around and learning the history of the area as well as exploring the architecture. I don't think I will ever get over the ingenuity and craftsmanship.

Inside the Public House you can learn how South Carolina's quest for independence turned the tide of the American Revolution. The interactive exhibits are interesting and feature lifelike wax figures , historical artifacts and easy to read text . The gift shop is small and retails local products and books . Make sure to spot the state animal , the Boykin Spaniel throughout the property . You can pickup up a pamphlet titled the Boykin Invasion as apparently there are 11 Boykin statues around the town at notable historic spots . There is no cost to view the exhibit space and there is plenty of free parking . The visitor center should definitely be your first stop if you are visiting Camden to learn more about its interesting history !

Thanks to a highway sign on I-20, otherwise we would not have known about this beautiful historical village. We paid for the walking tour and our guides were very knowlegdeable and kind. So nice of the city to move the historic homes to one location so everyone can view them together. The souviner shop was well stocked too. We look forward to returning when they have the Revolutionary War Reenactments going.

The main attraction is a pretty, elegant white house that was the resident of a famous local and headquarters of the British command that occupied Camden the late 1700s. Grounds have work buildings, homes for the less wealthy of the time and signage so you can take a walking tour. Not fancy, just historical and a nice place to just relax, maybe have a picnic. The museum and gift shop has a lot of very interesting period books, historical handouts and great things for children, like coloring books or books about what children wore, their toys and bedding in Revolutionary times in America. We bought a number of such books for our grandchildren and I recommend teachers give this place a look-over as the material would be fun and informative to elementary as well as other secondary school history classes. No admission. All is free except the stuff for sale.

I met with a really nice woman who is originally from Chicago that settled here many years ago. She took me all through the little wooden cottage and told me the history of the home. It seems that a slave bought his freedom in the 1700s and built a home for his daughter at 1 time there were stairs and led to the 2nd floor attic which is pretty huge and I really wouldn't consider in an addict it seemed more like a loft to me and had 2 rooms. The stairs had been replaced so that you can walk up there and that's where I saw something that looked like a noose anging from the rafters. And soon as I entered the home I felt chills and Goosebumps all over my body. It was in a scary feeling or a bad feeling it was just a cold feeling or a chill. I got to see an old shoe from the 1700s and never realized that they made shoes not like they do today left and right foot but just general shoes for each foot which was interesting I really loved the little house it had its own charm. I would like to live in that house. The historical societie of damned and was easy to find and I really enjoyed meeting with the woman who was the curator I called her miss Shaw but her last name was not sure it was similar to that but that wasn't her last name. I bought a book that shows all of the historical sites in the town of Camden and I plan on seeing the majority of them tomorrow in the day time in my spare time. I am enjoying this little town so much I really hate when my time here ends and I have to go back home I'm going to miss this town terribly and the kindness and generosity of everyone I have met over the past 2 weeks Here.
