I think it's a true privilege to send our son Doga to Hiro Karate. It first seemed like an ordinary karate school from outside. After seeing pages of Olympic gold medals record of Mr Horoshi, we signed up for a year and the best activity to this date we found. Our son quit from tennis, soccer, piano lessons but still eager to continue for the karate as day 1. I can assure you that this place not only the best spot to learn karate in Las Vegas, maybe the best in the country. This family owned business is super friendly, very professional and yet very personable. Recommended.

It wasn't easy finding a place that tailors to teenagers (youth) since most of the martial arts businesses I've researched had smaller kids or adults. And to find a place that had some female students so that my daughter can easily relate with (girl standpoint). Long story short, the very first day of class, she had a huge meltdown outside of the studio not wanting to go through with it. There were a couple older kids who helped talk to her, calm her down, and pretty much "handheld" her into trying the class. Thankfully she got through it. Big thanks to John, Caesar, Bianca, and Stephanie. You guys are awesome! Fast forward 6 months later, my daughter has made new friends and has gained a lot more confidence. She enjoys coming to class especially when Sensei Dave teaches (the buff one haha). She says he's funny and cool. But actually everyone helps out, which is nice. Tip *** the studio gets extremely crowded once a class has ended. Just wait for a about 5-10 mins after and seats should open up.

So I wanted to find a traditional karate school for my 9 year old son. Who told me he wants to take Karate. Wax on Wax off, Sand the Floor and Paint the Fence is a must. Hahaha Las Vegas Shotokan Karate seems to be the most traditional and been doing it longer than everybody else in Las Vegas. Founder Shihan Osamu Ozawa opened the school in 1981. (He is a True Master and a Legend) in Karate in 1995, Master Ozawa at age 70 turned the school over to James Tawatao, a student of his since 1981. I was very impressed with Sensei James Tawatao Chief Instructors demeanor and professionalism. he really cares about his students and wants them to train hard and do their very best and it shows in his teachings. The other instructors are great and they really take the time and helped my son to learn the moves right. so I think that will further him in his training. the little extra care they take really shows in what he has learned in the short amount of time that he has been in Karate class They have a great start up special $209.00 includes a karate gi and the dojo patch for three months of training. Kids classes are Monday /Thursday /Friday 5:30 to about 6:30 Dont be late. After that it's $255.00 for 3 months which is a pretty good deal and the more family members that join the cheaper it gets. I am very happy my family gets to be a part of this historical Karate dojo. Thank you Sensei James Tawatao for greeting my family with open arms it's an honor to be involved with your school.

We started Randen with a no commitment introductory class just to see if it was a fit for him, the other students don't compete with each other instead they are warm and welcoming, it was immediately that our son was eager to start and we enrolled him without hesitation; It didn't take long for my son to adapt and adjust, with the many advices from Uncle Benny, and 1 belt promotion later (6 months later), my son Loves it !!! Now at 10 years old, he has worked his way through the belt ranks and has become one of the most senior students in his class. His confidence has improved tremendously--he listens well, follows direction, and his performance in school has improved as well. One of the things I really appreciate about this school is the variety of martial arts they offer. Students have the opportunity to train in traditional Karate (kata and stances), Aikido (gentle, flowing techniques), and Jiu Jitsu (ground defense and control), depending on their interests. Another reason we continue to stay is Shihan Smith. He truly takes the time to connect with each student and teach in a way they understand, offering the right balance of motivation, discipline, and encouragement. I highly recommend Traditional Karate & Aikido to anyone--whether you have prior experience or are just starting out.

In May of 2023, my daughter decided that she would like to try boxing at another facility but still continue with her karate. After one of her classes at the karate studio, I mentioned to Shihan that Savannah was taking boxing classes also. He made a sarcastic comment to me about my decision but I laughed it off while walking out the door because I thought he was kidding. When I came back to pick up Savannah after her class the following week, he brought up the boxing and said he still wasn't over what I had said last week in front of the other parents. I wasn't sure how to respond to this remark and said I didn't know what he was upset about. He said that we could discuss it in his office so him and I and Savannah went into his office and he laid into me like I was one of his students. He said that he did not appreciate that I had Savannah in a boxing class when she should be putting more effort into her karate class. There was so many more unacceptable words that he used towards me as a parent in front of my daughter, that I finally stood up and told him that he was not going to talk to me in that manner; That I was doing the best that I could with Savannah and we walked out. S. Smith Sensei spoke to me in a manner that was totally unprofessional and unacceptable and I pulled Savannah from his classes. She has been at his establishment for over six years, and it was very disheartening to know that he felt it necessary to talk to another adult in that manner. And this is an individual who follows in the Lord and uses the Lord's prayer in the beginning of class, and his business is a Christian Karate establishment. The wolves in Sheep's clothing are lying everywhere.
