The free ice-cream is a nice touch, but it's a real shame that the rest of the food just wasn't very pleasing in it's own right.
Having lived in Asia I appreciate I'm probably a little spoilt when it comes to Chinese food, but even taking into account that you're getting a very British adaption when you go to a takeaway we were pretty disappointed after all the great reviews this place gets.
The starters (ordered a selection) were very dry and overcooked and all had a twang of stale fryer oil to them. Singapore noodles were bland and slimy and the main dishes overly sweet and samey despite ordering dishes that shouldn't be swimming in generic syrupy sauce.
One of the dishes had fried chicken in a sauce, and whilst it was otherwise poor the chicken was both crisp and moist. So, an extra star for whatever trick they'd pulled.
Theres a good range of choice on the menu, and the second the doors opened (just happened to be across the street) local customers were coming in and the phone was constantly ringing, so I have to assume that it's popular. Personally won't be going back as it was well below even average Chinese takeaways, and I've had better from others in Tewkesbury let alone further afield.
Whilst I don't think I'm overly sensitive to MSG, I was left feeling pretty odd after eating the food - could be the nausea was induced by too much additive, could be just from having eaten 1000 utterly disappointing calories. read more
