What can be said about the G E Bridge???…read more I love this bridge, it has so much character. It was named for Clarence Ransom Edwards who served in the United States Army from 1883-1922. That's one incredible stretch considering the wars and treachery that happened during that time span. The bridge is part of Route 1A that spans over the Saugus River and connects Revere and Lynn. This is a drawbridge that still opens. It's constructed mainly of cement and steel. I also have fond memories of this bridge since I grew up in the Point of Pines. It was part of our neighborhoods culture. In high school we hung out under the bridge and kids from other parts of town called kids in the Pines Bridge Rats. I wonder if kids still hang under there??? A group of us use to jump off the bridge into the channel on hot summer days, it was awesome! Motorcycles please be careful when crossing on a windy day as the center draw area is just metal grating and the wind blows up hard, be ready for it!!! I give the General Edwards Bridge a Solid 5 Stars... 3.5 for the bridge and the additional 1.5 for the great memories.

The marker reads, "Adam Hawkes, the first white settler in Saugus, built on this site about 1630. President John Adams was his great-grandson." It was erected in 1930 by the Massachusetts Bay Colony-Tercentenary Commission. Hawkes departed England in 1630 aboard the John Winthrop-commanded Winthrop Fleet. Hawkes initially made Charlestown in the Massachusetts Bay Colony his home after arriving in America. He was a husbandman in Charlestown and held the positions of Cow Commissioner and Surveyor. Hawkes traveled to the Lynn (now Saugus) wilderness in 1635 after getting married and selling his Charlestown home to farm. The Hawkes family were the region's first recorded settlers. There's also a loop around the rock which is 1/4 mile if you want to go for a jog, and there's some equipment for kids and adults alike to enjoy including slides, monkey bars, and climbing ropes. Want to support this impressive park? Malden hosts annual park clean-ups! I participated in fall 2020 during which we picked up trash & glass shards (make sure to bring your own gloves) and planted trees. It's a great way to volunteer in the community and beautify a unique space for all to enjoy.

There was an activity with magnets set up on the front table to explore. There was a table for coloring, and a table with magnifying glasses and seashells to examine. Towards the back of the library are puzzles, stuffed animals, a mural of sea creatures, and a bunch of other toys. The books are arranged by fiction and nonfiction but they also have sections for specific interests such as "trucks" and "sparkly" where you can quickly select a few books based on your child's interest.
