So much history and emotions when wondering this self guided area that you can take your time walking through. There are stone ledges for each person who was accused and killed because of witchcraft. Each stone ledge lists their name, the date they passed away and how. I liked seeing the flowers and offerings on each stone ledge - it gave the feeling that these people have never been forgotten about even after all of these years. There is also a cemetery all around the memorial site as well as the Samuel Pickman House. If you know about the history of Salem or are interested in learning more, I would highly suggest visiting the Memorial and paying your respects.

The Ropes Mansion garden is free to enter, and is accessible through an arched pathway at the side of the mansion. The garden, while small, is beautiful and tranquil to walk through, complete with plenty of roses and a small pond. It's a great spot to take tourist photos as well. A must-visit for Hocus Pocus fans!

Do you remember in the movie when Dani and Max are outside the mansion just staring up at it in awe? That was me. The infamous mansion where Allison lives is a sight that can't be missed! It is located in a residential neighborhood at the very end of the street, but it is worth the quick detour away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist area. We came later in the evening so were only able to get a couple of night time shots - we wanted to get one of us in front of it, but a tour group was coming through at the same time and we didn't want to be too distracting. I'm not sure if they ever do tours inside, I believe the Ropes Mansion is owned by the Essex Museum, but the outside was definitely enough for me. If you're a fan of Hocus Pocus, this is a must stop!

I got really lucky that I was able to get pictures of on a late August afternoon/early evening without swarms of tourist crowds. There are walking tours that will visit the statue as a stop. It tells the story of the 1692 trials with a lot of drama. This part felt much more modern and actually touched on some interesting social themes like scapegoating. ​Duration: Plan for about 1 hour total. ​Booking: This is the most important tip--book your tickets online in advance! Especially in the shoulder seasons or October, they sell out hours (or days) ahead. In September, I walked in and was able to get tickets for a show that started 20 minutes later. Adult tickets were $13.00 each. We started in a courtroom to see a reenactment of the trial of beggar-woman Sarah Good from the original transcript of 1692. Then, we went on a guided tour of the dungeon. It was pretty intriguing to see and learn about the cells where the witches were kept and learn more about the history of the trials. Then, you are led to a gift shop prior to exiting. The Witch Dungeon Museum is definitely worth checking out!

Although many parts of Salem were already insanely crowded with many lines outside, the grounds were not too crowded when I went in the morning on a Saturday in October.
