Grateful for perfect weather for baseball, hot dog, and a beer... Hillsboro Hops won 5-4 5/25/25

We went to a Hops game with our (now adult) children, and it was a fun, comfortable experience. The ballpark is part of a sports complex, so when we parked, we were under the impression that we were closer to the stadium than we actually were - we ended up walking around a soccer/football field to get to the baseball venue. Once inside, the ballpark reminds me of the spring training facilities I've seen in Arizona - good sightlines from a well laid out set of grandstands. They have a nice selection of concessions, my only disappointment was seeing one restaurant chain present that is known for its support of intolerance. Otherwise, food and drinks showed good quality local representation. Stadium employees were friendly and well trained, doing a good job of keeping people out of the aisles (and other fans' sightlines) while action was happening. All in all, it was a fun, reasonably priced destination.

We are so glad to have the Hops in our community and as my son is a big baseball fan, this is a great way to have some family fun. We enjoy going to games. On super sunny, hot nights it's hard to find shade in the stands which is hard for me as I can't regulate my body temperature well since brain injury. But before it was never an issue and have also sat in the grass areas too. There are some decent food options. It's not the cheapest family night out so we can't do it all the time, but we usually try to do a few games a year. My son does private coaching with Tony Pine and Five Tool Baseball Academy and gets to practice in the batting cages at the Hops stadium and absolutely loves it. We are grateful that The Hops are in Hillsboro, such a neat addition and as someone who grew up here and 2 miles away I can see and feel how amazing this is for a kid to grow up with access to it. The staff of the stadium are always nice and helpful.

It truly was a perfect night for baseball. The Pickles offer vegan burgers, sausages and chicken tenders (a brand we've never heard of, but they became my son's favorite that night.) The game was awesome, Pickles won!!! The must heed tip I'd offer, take public transportation in or Uber. Because you're not at a stadium, you're in a neighborhood park with a baseball field. Parking is TOUGH y'all. But I'd still do it again. A truly fun night!!!

This was standing tickets only, no seats. Also no private area and there were tons of other people so very few people could actually see the field to watch the game. $50 to just get in to the park. Then let's talk about the catering, paid $11000, that's right $11k to run out of some cheap pulled pork and baked beans. Think $10 plate dinner, but paid almost $70 a person. Worst of all they ran out of food and drinks. Their way to make it up was a platter of $5 grocery store cookies. I've never been so frustrated and disappointed

I know the Portland Timbers best for their MLS Cup 2018 matchup against Atlanta United FC. It was…read moreonly our (Atlanta) second season in existence and we beat the Timbers, 2-0, in Atlanta. It was a big win for the city as an Atlanta pro sports team had not won a championship since the Atlanta Braves won the 1995 World Series. The Timbers played Atlanta United in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Timbers were the MLS Cup 2015 champions, beating Columbus Crew SC, 2-1, despite Portland playing a road game at MAPFRE Stadium in Ohio. The Timbers set an MLS Cup record in that match when Diego Valeri scored only 27 seconds into the game (fastest goal recorded in the championship match to date). Valeri went on to be named MLS Cup MVP. Also, similar to Atlanta above, it was a big win for the city of Portland as a Portland pro sports team had not won a championship since the Portland Trail Blazers won the 1977 NBA World Championship Series (now known as the NBA Finals). Caleb Porter coached the Timbers from 2013 to 2017 and, somewhat ironically, has been head coach of Columbus Crew SC since 2019. He was a great coach for Portland. The Timbers' first MLS season was in 2011. So far, the 2015 and 2018 MLS Cups have been the team's only appearances in MLS' championship match. In those seasons, the Timbers finished in fifth and third place, respectively, in the Western Conference. Both in 2013 and 2017, they finished in first, but were unable to make it past the Conference Finals in 2013 and Conference Semifinals in 2017. In 2013 and 2018, the team had impressive 15-game unbeaten streaks. Overall, all seasons combined, the Timbers have been a middle-of-the-pack MLS squad. Over the years, goalkeepers Donovan Ricketts and Adam Kwarasey tallied high numbers of shutouts. Some of their single-season shutout numbers approached league records. In 2013, Ricketts had 14 shutouts and in 2015, Kwarasey had 13. Incredible. Portland won the one-off MLS is Back Tournament in August 2020, earning a spot in the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League.

Mostly I go with friends who are season ticket holders and the experience of seeing the action right up close is incredible! Over the years we have gotten to know the ushers and waiters who always greet us by name and add to the wonderful experience. The Portland fans are the best! The atmosphere and energy always high. The team has had their ups and downs, fantastic seasons and some real struggles, but through it all the players are true sportsmen, work well as a team, are professional and respectful. They always express gratitude and appreciation of the fans and the city of Portland. Did I mention that I love my a Blazers?!! Yes, I prefer to win, but the reason I am such a fan is because of the type of people the players are, especially under Damian and Coach Stott's leadership. They are a great group of young men. So even when we are struggling, I am there cheering them on and having fun doing it!

As a big NBA fan in the late 90s and into the 2010s, and as a Georgia Tech alum and longtime men's basketball season ticket holder, never in a million years would I have guessed Damon Stoudamire - of all people - would be one of Tech's head coaches. That was a connection I would have never made. I always saw Damon as a Portland/Pacific NW/NBA kind of guy, *not* an ACC men's basketball coach. I told Damon that when I met him, back in 2024, and he listed a few connections to Atlanta that included his sons. I knew he was well-connected in the basketball world and I could see why Tech's then-athletic director J Batt hired him. Damon can now add ACC head men's basketball coach to his journeyman resume. Also, Damon hired Bonzi Wells to be on his staff. I watched those two up close and in person at about 50 home games over the last three years (2023-2026). Anyway, this review is supposed to be about the Blazers. When I think of the Blazers, I think of Damon, Bonzi, and the "Jail Blazers." I first saw them in person during the 1999-2000 season at Staples Center, Portland at the Los Angeles Clippers. I liked that team and wanted them to win the 2000 NBA championship. It's too bad they didn't because they got so close. I highly recommend watching the 2026 Netflix documentary "Untold: Jail Blazers." It features Damon, Bonzi, and Rasheed Wallace. It's very entertaining to hear their first-hand accounts of the Jail Blazers era. I grew to really like and respect Damon and was sad to see him go. As a diehard Tim Duncan-era Spurs fan, I thought Tiago Splitter did a nice job as interim coach of the Blazers this season.

Which is pretty typical for him (he is 8 and has ADHD and we constantly find random items in his pockets as he gets distracted and just ajoves things into his pocket so he can use his hands again.) But having JUST eaten at Next Level Burger across the street, I could see it was open so I said let's go be accountable and apologize and offer to pay for it. He usually freaks out about that kind of thing but he said okay let's go. When we first walked in, the employee there was busy helping another customer. When we got a chance, my son and I went up to speak to him and he owed up to what he had done and apologized. The amount of compassion and kindness that he showed us was beyond what I could have hoped for. Then my daughter noticed his hat and started chatting with him about it and it was his own brand which was SO Portland and SO cool!!! They have ALL the cool scarves, new merch and jerseys and hats and pretty much ANYTHING PTFC or Timbers is right there. We ended up buying a few things and chatting for a while with this staff member as his kindness was EPIC.
