There's nothing like going into a music store and knowing, right off the bat, the store owners have something in common with me (aside from their love of music), such as a common Faith. While the stock selection of musical instruments is limited to what will fit in the small available space, they seem to be able to order most items one might be looking for, although not all brands. For instance, if one is looking for a new Gibson Les Paul, or an ESP EC1000, they probably won't be able to get it here. The selection of used guitars did in fact set the drool factor in motion (Hope I didn't slobber on too many of the instruments). My experience with Hill was in looking for a specialty music stand - one that folds out and can display 4 pages of sheet music without the pages hanging off the end of the stand. Not a stock item for any music store. They found it in a catalog and asked if I was sure I wanted to order it because it was somewhat expensive (and cost prohibitive for them to stock). Not only did I want ONE, I wanted two. They placed the order and asked me to call back the following week to check the status of it. In the meantime, I picked up a few other miscellaneous items (like guitar straps that displayed a symbol of my faith) and cashed out. I checked back the following week and as it turns out they had to go with another supplier and the order was going to take 6-8 weeks. I was willing to live with this because that type of music stand is such a hard to find item. The stands finally came in and they were exactly what I expected. While this isn't my favorite music store, it might easily be my 2nd favorite. The staff is very friendly and more than helpful when trying to get that hard to find item. read more

The teachers are wonderful, caring and go out of their way to show kids the love of music. I was in disbelief about the crazy review I read a while back,....from an obviously mentally unstable woman. There's nothing like walking in to a store where the owners still run the store. They are attentive and speak to you when you come in and when I requested to try out a guitar, they were very helpful and gave me a few minutes to try it out. I also heard the owner say to another customer while I was there that they do their best to meet internet pricing. Definitely a rare find these days. They're definitely doing something right, because so many mom and pop businesses are gone. You'll find drums, guitars, pianos, organs (HAMMOND!!), keyboards, amps, band instruments, etc. A real all-around store. read more

The only positive thing I can say is that they were actually open during the hours that they said they'd be open. Other than that I can not believe that they stay in business. We travel and perform 75-100 concerts a year. We make our living playing musical instruments, including guitars. Over the past 15 years we've visited several dozen music stores from coast to coast and have spent a lot of money at these stores. The woman on duty the day we walked into Hills was without a doubt one of the rudest, and inconsiderate people I've encountered for some time. Do yourself a favor, if you need anything from a music store, drive on into Raleigh or Durham and find a well supplied store with people willing to work with you, neither of which describes Hills. read more

I've shopped at Hill's for several years. Flo is a trip. The only complaint I have is the music that's playing in the background is elevator Christian music, not the type of praise and worship I like....but hey, I think the Hills' are Baptists so there you go. When I attended Baptist churches it was a challenge to stay awake and only got interesting when they'd have business meetings where the congregation could argue over the color of the carpet or whether the ice machine should deliver crushed or cubed ice. This has nothing to do with Hill's Music Shoppe, just an observation about a lot of Baptist churches. Hill's has been a great resource in the area for instruments for school bands. They can send someone out to tune your piano and if the wife isn't around you might get away playing one of their grand pianos. The store is convenient for those of us who don't want to drive 30-40 miles to Raleigh or Durham to purchase instruments; and the store stocks lots of bibles and Christian literature. They will even sell you whey protein or some health food product if you're in the market to live longer. Once you're done shopping, you can go next door and bowl or buy a car. I don't know what church Gregory H. attends, but I suspect it's one of those Baptist churches from his comment about Jesus coming to tell the Church we're going to hell. Hell is where Obama is trying to take us and I don't think He and Jesus are on speaking terms. read more

stoped by to pick up a set of sting and some picks when a cheap Squire Tele cought my eye. when i walked over to pick it up and see how the neck felt, the owners wife asked could she help, i replied that i was just looking at the tele she said very rudely i woud rather you didnt .ok i put it down , handed her back the strings and picks and left. the owner and the family are good to deal with , but because of his wife you would be better riding to sam ash or guitar center in Raleigh. i know i will anyway read more
