Site b2-13. Fire pit, table, pole for trash.
Kelly C.

Came camping here the last week of April 2022. The camp ground is huge, and when we were here it was fairly quiet. This review is for the primitive tent spaces. Each site has a table, fire pit with cooking grate and a pole to hang trash at night. The site is as gravel and had logs boarding. It was clean and flat. It was also semi private, although some were more or less private than others. My only complaint is how small the sites are. We have a 10 person 10x14 foot tent and it took up most of the site. We did not really have room to set up the screen house, and ended up putting it in the driveway where it isn't flat. We also found 3 ticks on us throughout the weekend, so be careful and check yourselves! We did not swim, but the lake was beautiful. The bathrooms near site b2-13 were open air bathrooms so I did find some creepy crawlers. It was well stocked with toilet paper. There was no soap stocked in either bathroom. There is wAs a general store on property that sold classic camping things. The town of grand rivers is adorable and has an ice cream shop. It's a bit of a drive for us from nashville, but if we lived closer we would definitely come back.

Beautiful!

This place is pretty nice! Very thankful we found this place! And cheap! Full water and electrical hook up. We are at site C 59, and the views are amazing. The bathroom and showers are great as well. The showers are your own personal room, with a lock on the door. And clean. The bathrooms are as well. The pics speak for themselves. We will be back!!!

Site 45w in Area C close to water front, bathrooms, playground.

Practically perfect in every way. Every staff member was extremely nice, warm, welcoming and helpful from the minute we pulled up. Fellow campers were pleasant. A wonderful campground located in the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. For as large as this campground is and how full it was during our stay, the campsites are separated into loops and angled different ways so that we never felt cramped or crowded. The curvy roads and tall trees make for a picturesque and peaceful drive to your site. We stayed in Area C, Site 45w (E/W, no sewer) with a nice view of the water, close to bathhouse, playground, and rocky beach. The site was not very level but we were able to work with it. The only negative would be that the fire pit needed to be emptied and there were random pieces of garbage (including lenses to eye glasses) around the fire pit. Bathrooms and showers were clean the entire stay (4 days/3 nights). Showers were free and nice and hot. Camp store (outpost) had a little bit of everything...even vinegar I needed for a marinade. Convenient and decent prices. There was so much to do within driving distance of the campground, especially since it was Outdoor Kids Fest that weekend. But that's another review. Next time we'll remember to bring our bikes and archery equipment to try out the range on-site at Hillman Ferry.

She got all of our info and told us which site we'd be in. We didn't have to give a credit card to hold the spot and when we got there, our reserve tag was on the site (site 15). She emailed me a site map so we'd know where to go. When she said it was right off the highway and behind the Marathon Station and Motel 6, I started to wonder. But she also said they were in a valley to where you couldn't hear highway noise. We finally got there and it was nice. Literally right off the highway. We took the first right after the Marathon Station and drove down into the campground (which is the only thing down the road). So truly, you could barely see the sign from the Marathon. From my window I can see the motel 6 at the top of the hill (and it looks like a nice one). It's a quaint little campground, only about 30 sites. The owners want to build a bath house and laundry facility. The roads are gravel but the sites are all concrete with a gravel approach pad. There is a dump station as well as firepits and picnic tables at most sites. But, I liked the fact that they are right next to the Livingston Trail system. The gate was closed but my dog and I could get thru/under it. Did I mention it was fall, so the leaves were beautiful. All in all this was a great little place to spend the night. It was quiet and felt very safe to us. If I had things to do in the area, I would definitely stay here for the value. We were in a 43 foot motor home with a tow vehicle and didn't have to unhook.

Check-in was efficient, and the staff was exceptionally helpful. Throughout our stay, we experienced no issues with the water supply, electrical, or sewage systems. Our pull-through site accommodated our 35-foot trailer without difficulty. While the Wi-Fi, as is common in RV parks, was not optimal for streaming, it was sufficient for basic phone and tablet use. The water had a noticeable chlorine taste, but our in-line filter and Brita pitcher resolved this. Paducah was conveniently located, offering a wider selection of stores and restaurants than anticipated. The campground offered various activities during our visit. Each morning, a vendor sold fresh baked goods, jams, and jellies, which we found to be very good. Mark Cope provided a BBQ wagon, and his BBQ and potato salad were also excellent. The park also hosted an ice cream social and a wine tasting by "Purple Toad Winery," a family-owned winery in Paducah, KY. There is a lake on-site where fishing is available, and bait is sold. We will certainly choose Fern Lake Campground for our next visit.

We made a reservation that day (it seemed pretty packed early October so we got the last available spot). The staff here were very friendly, and we didn't have to pay until we arrived at the site. It was so affordable! With a Good Sam discount, our one night stay amounted to just ~$34! We were very happy with the price, which included full hook-ups (+ cable TV), a shower house, and a swimming pool (? I think). The next morning, we had our propane filled at that site and left. The owners here were very thoughtful and organized. Thought the campground wasn't very big, when we drove in, the owner had us follow her in her golf cart so we knew exactly where to pull in and how to park our extra truck. Will come back again!

I'd give Duck Creek RV Park 5 stars if there were trees. Otherwise, this is a great RV park.

We tent camped here in late July, and camping I would give 3 stars. Reserving a site would be nice since I was traveling over 7 hours to the area, and peace of mind is nice. Camp Host was fairly curt, which I've never seen. Also, no firewood to buy on site. They have a garage for wood but don't sell it and recommended the one redneck in town who sells it at a skyhigh rate. We were lucky he was at home. Bathrooms and showers at the park were impeccably clean. The park restaurant was not bad, we loved the fried catfish and acoustic guitar duo. There are rentable cabins here right by the restaurant, RV and tent camping, and plenty of hiking. Not far from Garden of the Gods!

The water is not accessible from the sites...we were told it is a 60' cliff into the water but we didn't venture close enough to the edge to confirm that. Site 4 felt safer (since we had kids in our group) as it didn't back up to the edge. All of our sites had a little deck near the camper pad but our deck was in a little disrepair (some rotten boards). The sites had electric and water and all had fire rings, too. On the way to the sites (once we were inside the park) the road seemed overgrown and I was wondering if we were heading to the right place. It's definitely tucked away but was a peaceful, mostly empty (maybe because of the raininess of the weekend), campsite. The bathhouse was nice. The showers were a little small but the water was nice and HOT! There was a bit of cobwebs but overall, they really weren't too bad! There is a an area outside each shower with a bench and hooks for towels and clothes. The playground had tape around it (maybe from Covid?) so we didn't use that. There was a dumpster near the bathrooms. Our kids went on some trails, but we didn't go with them, so I can't comment on the trails. On the way out of town, we went to the beach. There's so much potential there but I wasn't impressed at all. It was disappointing. The sand turns into somewhat stinky mud by the time you get to the water line and overall the place looked unkept - some broken picnic tables, overgrown grass, weeds popping all over the nice concrete padded area by the bathrooms. I thought there would be showers, but there is just one outdoor shower good enough for a quick rinse. The bathrooms/shower house at the beach smelled clean (someone even came to clean them while we were there) but overall it was just not nice. The beach just seemed like a place that, in its heyday, would have been so great. Since this review is more about the campsites than the beach, I am not taking the beach into too much consideration. The couple that stays at the site are very nice. They came and introduced themselves to us and gave us a map of the trails and the park. On our way out they have us a hearty wave and asked us to come back soon. The campground was a nice place to camp. We had a great weekend!

That's what Emily and I did after taking in the breathtaking views at the Gardens. We kind of went into this blindly with just a map of the area. We backtracked a bit to this area that may have been something called Backpacker's Hike or something like that. Pictures say it was the Indian Point Trail. Anyways, we parked next to a few other cars and headed out to hike. I don't need to explain hiking but I will go over a few fun things we saw. There were more cliffs to enjoy but the views were just a bit less than stellar compared to the Gardens. Still great though. We saw a lot of places where people must've camped or hung out at night cause there were fire pits everywhere. We deviated from the path cause we were looking to hike as much as possible and ended up getting dead-ended about 4 times. While we were limited to this area of Shawnee, I would say we got a pretty good taste of what it offers. We got to see so many beautiful viewpoints and took plenty of great photos. I know this is just scraping the surface of what Shawnee National Forest offers and maybe some day I can go back and see all the other landmarks that this place is known for. Enjoy nature. It's a thing of beauty.
