The grounds were well kept with a lot of activities to do just within the grounds itself. The cabin we stayed in had a great view of the lake and a screened in porch, which was great to relax on. Our cabin had a kitchen, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room area and was very clean and comfortable. The owners were also very personable and helpful with resort information as well as area information. Would definitely return to this resort.

The cabin was very clean and nicely accented with Northwoods touches. There was a guide book in the cabin that explained everything you could imagine doing in the area - a great resource! Each cabin has their own dock and campfire pit complete with comfortable adirondack chairs and free firewood. There is plenty of yard space for activities, and each cabin has a picnic table and charcoal grill. We were able to spend time on the water using the kayaks, canoes, and rowboats that are available at the resort. The resort is located close to town - just a few miles from Manitowish Waters. The resort has a variety of bikes available to guests, so we grabbed some one morning and biked into town to enjoy coffee at the local coffee shop. Manitowish Waters also has a grocery store and lots of great restaurants. The area is also known for its bike trails - there is a scenic, winding (and paved!) bike trail that runs through Manitowish Waters that you can take to the nearby town of Boulder Junction and beyond. Our experience was superb! The cabin is a great value for the location and quality. Would highly recommend as an awesome place to bring your whole family to make great memories. So many activities and fun things to do! We are already planning our return visit. Make your reservations early because they do book up quickly.

There are cabins for rent if you have a bigger group, but we stayed in the lodge which was built in the 1920's and renovated in the 70's - nothing much has changed since then and they are very open in telling you that staying here is a "step back in time". You can interpret that a lot of ways. What you get for $110/night (off season): * A quiet property just off Hwy 51 * Lots of mature trees, a quiet bay and piers if you have a boat * History - the lodge is still owned by the family that built it. In fact, one of the original owners was the guy that snitched out John Dillinger to the FBI. * Firepits with wood for campfire good times * Clean, very basic rooms * Window AC in summer (as you can see from the photo of our bathrooms, ours was removed but left on the floor) * A restaurant that is open at random days and times in the off season (we never managed to catch it open) * Exciting bathroom adventures - ours was carpeted (!), another had a puffy toilet seat and best of all, the last room had a toilet that flushed only steaming hot water. What you don't get: * A TV (2 of the 3 rooms didn't have them) * Heat - it looks like most rooms have space heaters * Although rooms are advertised as having a fridge 2/3 didn't though one had a microwave(?) * Tons of privacy - our deck was shared with another room and there was only a fairly sheer curtain on our doors Overall, it was just a really interesting experience - staff ranged from awesome to indifferent - YMMV. I think for $110/night off-season you can probably do a LOT better in terms of finding a place with amenities but you certainly will miss out on a true up north old school experience. If you have a good sense of humor, check them out - it might be your jam.

They have a few options here in terms of size and price, but the main area is easily accessible from everywhere. Even though it's just a short distance from town, you feel like you're way out in the woods. Our cabin was clean and comfortable, with a couple different sleeping areas, a full kitchen, fridge, etc. I brought home a day's fishing catch and cooked it up right there. If you come with a larger group they have central fire pits and grilling areas and a couple big party shelters protected from the rain. They have WiFi throughout the property, which you'll probably need as I had no cell service up here. There was a baby deer on the property whose mother came by periodically to check. There's a sauna and a barn with bikes for everyone to use. Super peaceful and relaxing vacation.

And not only were the aesthetics amazing, but the cabin was immaculately clean and so comfortable! My bed was very comfortable and the furnishings in general allowed for real relaxation. We enjoy going out to eat and antiquing and other activities when visiting the North Woods, but both my daughter and I said it would not have been a tragedy if we would have had to spend more time indoors, due to weather. Just a great experience!

I've stayed on spider, clear and rest lakes but this is the best so far, the cabins are clean and well maintained, somewhat rustic due to the lack of a/c and TV, but hey that's what we come here for. The family that owns the resort sends us a Christmas letter every year to keep us updated on the happenings around town and they are always available to help guests out when needed around the resort. Included in the price of your cabin you get a very nice aluminum row boat and in case you don't have an engine or boat you brought with, outboard engines are available to rent at a fair and reasonable price to get you going around the lake. Wild rice is the perfect lake for a vacationing family because it is never crowded and due to the fact the local indian reservation owns 75 percent of the frontage on the lake it is always quiet with little to no boat traffic, great for skiing and water fishing. I definitely recommend this resort for families wanting a relaxing escape but also priced reasonably enough for any group of friends seeking a get away. Book early! Reservations sometimes fill up a year in advance and they have been in business since the 40's!
