Amazing school, as the teachers are all nice and helpful if you have questions. They have many great options for electives.

Deer Valley Unified School District No 97 - Copper Creek Elementary School 2016

My review is for Copper Creek Elementary School located in the Deer Valley Unified School District…read moreat the following address: 7071 West Hillcrest Blvd, Glendale AZ 85310. Website: http://coppercreek.dvusd.org I have two children with special needs issues. I came into the school with documentation for both from developmental preschools nearby that had either worked with them and had them tested by state representation or they had previously qualified for the Deer Valley School District's developmental delay preschool. This had no effect on them entering Kindergarden. And what I mean by this is that the school didn't do anything with the documentation, they certainly didn't implement any protocols or testing from the get go. I wish they had. They had to do their own assessment that took at times FOREVER to do. But policy is policy. I'd rather a more proactive approach. (Per AZ state law you can expedite this process, I did not, I wish I had for both children.) That being said, although the few frustrations I had with that, which were purely procedural, my time at the school was outstanding. The staff and teachers are amazing! (Mary, the front office secretary is on the ball! I hope she is still there with them!) Especially for the special needs department. I heard good things going in and I was not disappointed. I was with the school for 7 years. Some teachers are fantastic, (many of them have been at the school for years!) others were so so, but I'm generalizing over 7 years. The school switched Principals the end of 2013. I was not fond of the replacement Principal, however she was only there for the last end of the school year. Replacement was remedied with Mrs. McNeill in 2014-15 school year. She's fantastic. I have only good things to say about her leadership. In all, every public school is going to be reactionary instead of proactive. If you have a child with some behavior issues, I highly recommend this school because the staff here are in my opinion, fantastic. I felt respected as a member of the IEP team, they listened to my concerns and we all worked to help my children be the most successful. And THEY did go far, and I'm absolutely certain it was because of everyone's hard work. This location is land locked. So the school boundaries make the attendance in the class rooms reasonably sized. I lived out of the school zone and attended under a variance the full 7 years my children attended there. Never had a problem with getting the variance. I can't see that anyone else would if they applied for one. (It's pretty easy, the spring before the school year you are having your child attend, contact the office and they will help get you the paperwork.) The down side of this is that your child will not ride the bus. We left the school this school year 2016-17 because we moved to another location still in the same district but closer to Las Brisas, which from what I've been told is very much like Copper Creek. I'm sure at some point I'll be reviewing that one too. Some teachers from Copper Creek moved to Las Brisas, but that's not why we moved. After 7 years picking kids up, we decided to have them go to the new school they were zoned for and have them ride the bus. So far they are doing well at the new school. But I miss the relationships I had at Copper Creek. Around the corner from Copper Creek Elementary, is Hillcrest Middle School. Students who attend the Elementary school K-6 then attend Hillcrest. And then attend Mountain Ridge High School after that. All the schools are within the same block of each other. But they have the release times staggered so there usually isn't too much overlap. Its a pretty sweet setup if you ask me. Middle school aged kids, can literally walk down the street and pick up their Elementary aged siblings. Wish I lived closer, would have loved to have taken advantage of that. In all, my experience there was a VERY positive one. Will miss Copper Creek dearly!

The teachers genuinely care and nurture these kiddos from day one, their love and dedication are evident in everything they do. I especially appreciate that biblical teaching begins at a young age, woven naturally into the classroom experience. The rooms are always clean, engaging, and thoughtfully arranged to support learning and play. My child is thriving here, With smaller class sizes, two dedicated teachers per room, and a float teacher to assist, I feel confident knowing my child is in such good hands. I only wish we had found this place sooner. It's a blessing to be part of a school that combines faith, care, and excellence so beautifully. We plan to continue here for k-12.

This will be lengthy, but if you are preparing to send your child to Mountain Ridge and want an…read morehonest review of it, spare me a few minutes. I'd like to preface by saying this: Arizona schools suck. Our state is ranked overall 49th out of 50 next to Louisiana in terms of education. However, this might possibly be one of the worst schools you could send your child to in the state. For the past nine months, I have attended Mountain Ridge as a freshman, and I can easily say without exaggerating that it has been one of the worst experiences I've ever gone through. First of all, don't send your child here if you aren't rich, white, and Christian. They will be judged ruthlessly and administration will hardly bat an eye even if you report it. In the same vain, administration and the school's staff will only find themselves concerned with your issue if you are threatening to file a lawsuit (and have the required funds to do so). I have been in countless situations throughout the year that I reported to the office (problems with other students, a teacher displaying predatory behavior towards me and illegally taking pictures of me during class without my knowledge/saving them on his phone as well as forcing me to give him my phone number), and they've done two things: In regards to the other student, nothing at all. They waited weeks to call me into counseling and by then it was too late to do anything at all. (This is a frequent occurrence- my friend was strangled by another student after calling him out, and in the end his behavior was excused because he has anger issues, so apparently it isn't his fault). As for the teacher, administration let him off with a slap on the wrist and moved me into counseling, which was the best and only solution they could offer. I was also blamed for the issue and made to believe it was my behavior during class that caused my teacher to behave this way. Additionally, I have been targeted and harassed by the hall monitors at our school for the entire year. At one point, one of them watched me using the bathroom in the stall and decided she thought I was vaping. She didn't even tell me why I was being dragged to the office until after the nurse began performing drug tests on me (against my consent). This same hall monitor has dress coded me countless times wearing the exact type of clothing I've seen half of the other girls at our school wear, but seemingly it only matters when I'm wearing them (since I'm not rich, white and Christian). Other issues include the school being understaffed, teachers having no idea how to present or teach the class material, and blaming you for every single absence/tardy since the only reason they want you here is to make money off of your attendance. This school is an absolute train wreck and I wouldn't recommend sending your child here unless you'd like them to suffer through complete hell for the next 4 years of their lives.

Let me start with the service I once asked a teacher if I could get a drink of water and was refused what kind of service is this ? Nobody ever has a smile on their face in the cafeteria I was never asked in the 4 years I ate here how the food was and was never once ever offered a refill. Recently they have gotten rid of the soda machine that never has soda in it, just mostly juices but that was one of the main features I looked forward to every day. I will move forward to the decor this place looks like it was made in the 70's obviously no renovation. Don't even get me started on the bathrooms there are no mirrors in the men's bathroom and most kids transferring from first hour to second are Julling in there so it's hard to get to actually use the facilities. Next is food, the picture shows what I had for lunch today as soon as I grabbed my food I could tell that the tots were in the temperature danger zone cause they were cold and soggy the PB&j was okay and the strawberry milk was pretty good. I hope next time there will be more effort put into our meals. That is all .

The material she presents to the class is often pulled from the internet. This wouldn't be terrible, if she would read the things before using them in class. She lacks the ability for confrontation, leading to her room being uncontrollable and loud. Her assignments are ridiculous, with extremely vague rubrics. It is better to brownnose and suck up to her than actually put effort into the class. I remain anonymous because if I were to make her angry, she'd find a reason to fail me. She should be, at the very least, placed under review. Sincerely, A dissatisfied junior
