Recently, I had an ailment that caused my eyes to swell, and decided it was time to call in the professionals. I took an appointment with Dr. Bibler when my regular doctor was unavailable. Dr. Bibler appeared with his med student, asked minimal questions, then diagnosed me with seasonal allergies. Not the case, as this was a contact ailment. The med student even mentioned that I had no other symptoms related to season allergies (coughing, sneezing, watery eyes, etc.) No swabs were taken. He didn't come close to take a look at my eyes. In fact, he didn't even touch me at all. Instead, he prescribed me $160.00 eye drops ($30.00 cost after insurance) and told me to come back in five days if I wasn't better. Great. A few days later, my eyes swelled completely shut and I had to go to Urgent Care. This doctor (who did take a culture swab) diagnosed me with an infection and prescribed two antibiotics. I told him about my medication from Dr. Bibler, in which I learned Dr. Bibler prescribed me eye drops for seasonal allergies. Had he actually taken a culture swab, he would have learned my condition was more serious. As such, I could have been recuperating with the proper prescription rather than taking a trip to Urgent Care. I feel like instead of remedying the problem, Dr. Bibler gave me a prescription just to have me return for another appointment, and of course, another doctor's bill. It's the business of medicine, and he knows how to play the game.

I've been going to Wetherington Family Medicine since I was about 10. I see Dr. Kenneth Farber and…read moreI'll put it this way, he's not great, but I haven't switched either. That's probably mostly because it's a pain in the ass to find a new family physician though... As a teenager, I had frequent bouts of strep throat, but never the kind that was detected by the rapid swab tests. Even though this became apparent rather quickly, I can't tell you the number of times I had to make numerous trips to Dr. Farber's office when my rapid tests would come back negative and he would tell me it wasn't strep, yet a few days later, the symptoms persisted. I will give their office props for one thing, though: Shortly after I graduated college and was unemployed with no health insurance, I broke my foot. Since I was an established patient at the office, they worked with me to charge me a minimal amount for my visit and they also worked out a deal with the imaging center where I had my x-ray. I was so grateful not to have to worry about being able to afford getting care for my foot and they took excellent care of me. So, while he might not be the sharpest crayon in the medical box, Dr. Farber is a great guy, and he does look out for his patients.

Imagine the focused care you'll receive. I feel as if I now have a partner focused on helping restore and maintain my health rather than a relative stranger giving me their best guess from a few clues. This is a wonderful practice with excellent doctors who truly care about the welfare of your child, and I highly, highly recommend them to anyone searching for a pediatrician in the NKY area. They are associated with St. Elizabeth Edgewood and Children's Hospital in Cincinnati. This is a three-doctor practice, and each doctor is personable and knowledgeable, but they each have a very different style and personality, and so I think the practice could appeal to many different types of parents (and varied parenting styles). We specifically saw Dr. Cahill, who saw us through the birth of our first and second child, through illnesses, injuries, and check-ups. She was never rushed with us, we always felt we could ask as many questions as necessary and take up as much of her time as we needed. She was calming when my wife was stressed, filled with wonderful advice for a new mother, and was accepting (though not supportive) of our alternative vaccination schedule. I feel she truly got to know my children. In addition, the staff is warm and affectionate with the children, they are very good about getting sick and/or injured children in same-day without appointments (call ahead to avoid an additional fee and longer wait-time), and they have an after-hours answering service where you can call and leave a message if you have a serious health concern, and the doctor-on-call will get back to you within an hour. My wife used this service several times as a nervous new mother, and no matter which doctor was on-call, they always responded promptly, were extremely helpful, and never made her feel that she was putting them out or being silly by calling after hours. My ONLY complaint is that, because they are so good about seeing sick children same-day, because they do make regular rounds at the hospital, and because they don't rush through appointments but talk through parental concerns, the wait to see the doctor was always very long. I understand why it is long, but I feel it does deserve mention. My wife always tried to get the first appointment of the day to avoid the wait, but even so, we often had to wait longer than we expected to see a doctor. I did not deduct a star for this because, frankly, I feel the service and care my children received was worth the wait.
