I probably would've enjoyed the class even more had the advertising of a "free" first class actually been true. The establishment charges $15 for get this, hand wraps for first timers, and apparently that can go toward the cost of your membership should you choose to sign up. I would have been happy to attend the class or at least made a better informed decision had the advertising for a free class included the additional payment of the hand wraps that I may not ever use again, up front! One positive, they did come in cool colors of lime green, electric orange, and red, white and blue. The overall workout was 3 minute rounds mostly of kickboxing techniques with recovery exercises like jumping jacks, wall sits and kick squats in between. We did start the workout with jump rope, ab work and light weights. Again, I had fun and got my sweat on but the cost structure is a bit troubling. I even read on the membership sheet that you still have to pay $20 for a day pass at another 9Round location other than the one you signed up at. For me personally, that does not incentivize membership. I guess it's the franchise structure.

My son has been a student at MAFA for about three years and just received his first degree black belt last night. The belt may be a great symbol of what he has learned during this time but the life lessons he will take away from the overall experience is truly priceless. MAFA is not only a school for martial arts but they also offer an after school program including transportation from several local schools and summer camps (winter and spring vacation camps are also offered). The facility is always clean, organized and most importantly secure. Master Chad Wilbur and his wife Leisha are simply amazing people and have treated us like family. Master Wilbur is also a 6th degree black belt and certified HaganH (Israeli self defense) instructor. They offer classes for virtually all ages from the little ones (tiny tigers) to adults. We started our son at a different martial arts school down the road and always felt like we were being pressured to spend more money or always bring other friends of our child to sign up, so we left and switched him over to MAFA. They never make you feel pressured to do anything you don't want to take part of or purchase things you don't really want or need. This may sound a bit cheesy but I'm always inspired when I watch a class that Master Wilbur is teaching. I'm always amazed how consistently positive his approach is and how the kids respond to him. Not only is he amazing but MAFA has a total of four "master instructors" on staff (you won't find this level of instruction anywhere else in town) and they all teach with the same approach and enthusiasm. A quick story that will tell you all you need to know about Master Wilbur...last night, one of the kids was getting presented with his second degree black belt and for some reason his new belt had not arrived yet. During his belt presentation, Master Wilbur apologized to everyone there and let the young man wear his 6th degree belt until his new belt arrives...what an amazing gesture! If you have children or are an adult that is interested in martial arts, you can do no better than the overall experience that MAFA will provide you.

Typically I'm a kickboxing fiend, but I wanted to switch it up. That and honestly the fact that I…read morewent on vacation to Tallahassee for Thanksgiving and even thought about some form of exercise says something. Wouldn't a normal person take it completely easy during the holiday? Anyway, I Googled quite a bit and found Yoga Power Tallahassee. I contacted them and shortly thereafter I spoke to Ashley. I discussed my options with her and ended up purchasing a $30 pass for 30 days. It's apparently some promotion they run for new clients. They also have packages based on classes, which spoiler alert, whenever I'm back in town, I will definitely get as I so thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The yoga studio itself is small. You have a few places to sit and a counter but not much else. You can tell it has a homey feel and it definitely shows. Ashley had even invited me to a gathering they had the Friday after Thanksgiving. I thought she was beyond nice and it was such a change of pace from the typical South Florida lifestyle. In terms of classes, they have plenty of options. A yoga power hour class, vinyasa yoga, some yin yoga, and these are only the ones I went to. You have yoga mats, blocks, blankets, etc., available for use, although most people just bring their own. The place is spotless and unless there's some incense burning, you won't smell anything. The incense usually accompanies the classes and it has such a relaxing feel to it. All the classes I took I had Ashley as my instructor. I believe she is the owner as well. I never really asked honestly. At any rate, she made the entire experience a real delight. I felt super comfortable with her. She never made me feel out of place for being from out of town or for not really being a yoga practitioner. It felt like visiting an old girlfriend's house who just happens to practice yoga. This small studio has a lot of heart. You can tell that the regulars really like this place. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. It definitely made me reminisce about what it's like living in a college town. That said, I was surprised that this studio's only been around for a year given that it seems to have a following if their social media is anything to go by. Truly had a great time with some great people at a lovely studio. Recommend this business hands down and will return when I visit again. For now I'll just have to make due with the tank top I bought from them.

I joined this place in May of 2012. I wanted to learn some self-defense, ground tactics, and…read morekickboxing. It's basically just a warehouse, where a bunch of people go to train. The place is not run well at all or sanitary for that matter. I tore my ACL here, while doing Judo. The instructor gave me no instruction on what we were doing. I had never done Judo before in my life. They just threw me in the cage. I even asked, what is the objective? Are we wrestling? Does anything go? The instructor did not even answer me. One of the guys in the drill alongside me explained to me it was Judo, and that to lock up and try to take the other guy down. He seemed like he just wrestled in High School, and had more knowledge of the sport than the instructor. They matched me up with a guy that outweighed my by fifty pounds, and I tore my ACL at some point while wrestling this behemoth with absolutely no instruction or guidelines. This place is unprofessional to say the least. After I got injured the head guy Eric told me that I probaly was not hurt. I was trying to diagnose what happened, and he was pissed that I was trying to access how I got injured, so it would not happen again. My entire right leg fell out when I stood up, and it turns out it was my ACL as well as a fractured leg. After all, insanity is trying the same thing over and over expecting different results. In actuality, after going to a doctor I learned I had a fractured leg and a torn ACL, so it seems I was hurt there Eric. This place is just interested in using young athletes to make a name for themselves. They do not care if they seriously injure athletes for life in the process and/or have their fighters injured during fights. Their fighters are not properly trained and run risks of hurting themselves in training and actual fights. All good trainers know that you do not train full speed and full contact, especially day in and day out: maybe one or two days of the week. From what I observed they had full contact at full speed fighting everyday. That is why many of their fighters get badly injured before even seeing the inside of a cage, which be at an extremely low level amateur (very shady) event anyways. I only trained her for a month or two, and before I got injured two other fighters got injured during training the week before. Also, they make it seem like anyone can and should try to fight in amateur cage fighting. People will be getting seriously injured. They hire out random people to teach the different classes, and besides a few of the smarter young guys they get mad when you ask questions. I would not recommend this place at all, and if you do go here be careful and refuse to do some drills as you might very well get seriously injured.
