It is 4/10 of a mile walk on the sidewalk. There is not much shade. There are a couple of shelters to sit at for shade. There is parking at the start of the trail. The trail is well marked. There are explanations along the trail about what you are seeing.

Love the upgraded parking and road to accommodate more cars compared to the past. But you must come for the sunset, and stay for the peaceful long walks and all that nature has to offer. Great spot to also go for a hike/walk, bike the dirt roads, and enjoy nature with occasional croc sitings and evens Everglades deers. Enjoy a boat passing by or even an airboat. Nice outdoor trail that you must experience and hike at least once. Easily assessable, peaceful, picturesque views, amazing sunsets, and an abundance of nature all sure won't disappoint.

People bring their chairs and wait to view the sky and watch the sunset in silence. This Trail is quiet and also perfect for bikers and runners. People also bring their dogs for a nice walk. Trail is home to many species of birds and you can spot alligators and snakes if you get lucky. Wide open area where fishing is allowed. You can see people fishing from their boats as well as near the canal. I enjoy coming here whenever I want to enjoy nature and do my meditation walk. It provides me with a sense of calmness and tranquility. There is parking but try to get there early before Sunset time as it can get crowded and parking is limited. Bring bug spray as there may be mosquitos in the area.

And after…read morevisiting Highland Scrub Natural area not far away, we decided to drive over and visit this very rare to south Florida natural preserve park, as well. The park is located right on a fairly busy street just south of the middle school. There was a lot of traffic traveling north and south here, but only one other car with one person had stopped when we were there. And the parking lot here is quite large. The person was relaxing in one of the shady pavilions having a late lunch. This sand pine scrub park is accurately described. The ground is sandy like beach sand and there is dry, desert like vegetation here. If you read the history, it explains how many thousands of years earlier Florida was mostly under seawater -- except for these high ridges that attracted vegetation and unique animals. And if you visit, it will remind you of parts of old Florida prior to urbanization. I like plants and flowers and found many interesting ones of both types to photograph here. As it was quite hot the day we came, we didn't walk the majority of the hiking trails. There are two trails -- one paved and one "natural". And they're both considered easy trails if you're dressed appropriately with comfortable shoes (which we were not). But we did also get to see some animal tracks -- some of which I'm not too fond. If you are new to Florida or new to the area, or just curious to what very old Florida looked like, this is a unique experience. It's quiet and relaxing and feels a world away from city life. I'm so glad that they've preserved this rare and ecologically sensitive spot since most have disappeared.

I recommended it's quiet not a long trail. I been to the one In Tampa it's long about 5 miles…read morereminding me the 5 miles

With no cars, they are typically a great place to enjoy nature and spot wildlife. The Cypress Creek Greenway is 16.5 miles from the everglades to the ocean. The trail was mainly constructed between 2009 and 2012 and it is the longest stretch of paved recreational path in Broward County. The segment closest to where I live runs from Fern Forest Nature Center to 441. The entirety of the trail runs between Lyons Rd. and Sanibel Dr., just east of Sawgrass Expressway. The trail is asphalt and concrete making it ideal for walking, running, and biking. For three miles of the trail it parallels Southgate Boulevard on one side and the C-14 Canal on the other. While walking the greenway today I spotted wading birds and an Osprey diving for fish. The trail used to end at Fern forest but another segment was recently added that takes it to the Atlantic Ocean. Unfortunately the new segment of the trail is not directly linked to the old section. Instead you have to travel along the bike lane on Lyons Road 1.6 miles to McNab road before reconnecting to the Cypress Creek Greenway. Bike travel on Lyons road can be potentially dangerous. On the western end of the trail parking is available in Tamarac at Tephford Park Playground and the Gary B. Jones Park for People and Pups. On the east end of the trail parking is available at the end of Atlantic Boulevard in Pompano Beach. There is also parking at Fern Forest nature Center. One thing to note is that the greenway does not have any shade so it is best in the cooler months. There are a few benches along the way and it passes the Margate Boat Ramp. I had an enjoyable time looking for birds and walking off some of the turkey day dinner today. With the dip in temperature, this is a a fun trail to come out and explore.

In 1897 the land was sold to the East Coast Railway owned by Henry Flagler. In 1989 Broward County was able to purchase the land through the Environmentally Sensitive Land Bonds Program which was created to preserve ecologically sensitive land from being used for commercial development. The nature preserve is 19.9 acres of scrubby habitat. This habitat is found on the highest and driest land so very little of it is left since it was the first to be used for development. In this natural area you can find scrubby flatwoods, oak scrub, and sand pine scrub. On the north border of the preserve you can find the remnants of a dome swamp with a few cypress trees left. Animals that have been spotted here include ospreys, black and white warblers, mocking birds, cardinals, and blue jays. Plants found in the preserve include tarflowers, rabbit bells, blue mist, love vine, scrub oak, sand pine, saw palmetto, and red tassel flowers. When visiting this preserve parking is a problem since there is no dedicated lot. It is sandwiched between two condominium complex's. You have to get permission from the complex to leave your car. Also there aren't any restrooms or water available. There isn't anything to attract your notice the presence of this nature area except a sign on a metal chain link fence. The paths are sand so they are not wheelchair accessible like some of the paved paths at other nature preserves in the area. Unless you have a burning desire see this place you can skip it as this preserve is not very visitor friendly. It is best left to the wild.
