Wow, let me start by saying that I have never left a single one star review. I've actually never experienced a lack of hospitality like this or really a lake of humanity like this so I had to write a review. Go here if you would like to be treated like you don't matter and if you want your three day old baby not to be cared for. Completely unclear and clueless and then to top it off rude about it is in my opinion not a terrific way to run a business. We never feel rushed during appointments and she takes the time to answer every question we have. We've also called the practice outside of scheduled appointments and they always get back to us right away and connect us with the right resource. I have been taking my kids to HIP for almost 2 years and recently I decided to go elsewhere. Nothing terrible happened, but nothing great happened either. Our doctor left the clinic, so we were bounced around from doctor to PA. I got the impression we were not important patients to them. The ladies at the front desk are aloof. They could never remember who we were and at some point, that just becomes rude. The last straw was one day when I had both of my kids with me. I was getting ready to leave the exam room and the nurse told me I could not throw a diaper away in the room, and then she scurried off. I was carrying the car seat with my newborn in it in one arm, and my wild toddler in the other. I wandered around looking for a garbage can, while I could see a group of staff members socializing. Finally, one of them pointed to a garbage can, and continued to chat with her co-workers. Again, very rude, so I have found a new clinic where people understand common manners. P.S. The cabinets in the exam rooms don't have child locks on them. That doesn't even make sense. That drove me crazy. read more

I really wanted to love this practice for our newborn. I felt like we were not valued or known by multiple providers we met with. It honestly seemed like they were just too busy. As a new parent, this wasn't the type of support I needed. Twice I had a lactation appointment scheduled following our visit as I simply desired more support. I was dismissed once because it wasn't scheduled right and the other time because my baby appeared to be gaining weight fine. It was all just too rushed and I felt guilty as if I was taking up too much of the practice's time. I think if you can get a provider you click with from the start and that takes time with you, this could be a fine place. For us it just wasn't a good fit. I like that they have a great nurse you can call for all questions and I liked that there was a number you could text for easy communication. read more

I too really wanted this clinic to be an awesome experience. We were referred here by our birth center but the experience we had was less than satisfactory. At the time I refrained from writing a bad review but after I saw a review on here with a similar experience, I wanted to share ours as well. To be fair, the ladies at the front desk were always incredibly kind, and our pediatrician while very busy and us having to wait a long time to see her, was also kind. I just wish things turned out differently... Our son was born at 35.5 weeks and during the 4 month appointment we were told that he was in the 0 percentile for his age and that we needed to bottle feed him to see how much he was eating. After a month of bottle feeding, he no longer wanted to breastfeed but we did determine that he was eating only 2 oz per feeding and started to supplement with formula. I am a first time mom and I wish that I had been encouraged to breastfeed ALONG with supplementing, not to stop breastfeeding. Then, on a following visit he was still in the zero percentile even though he was now eating double and was eating more and more every week thanks to a wonderful chiropractor! (Dr. Ginger Wolfe) So at this visit there was a blood draw, we only heard from them at 9 pm, when we were told to rush to the ER because his sodium levels were off. We were freaking out, drove to the ER, spent half the night there getting another blood draw only to be told that while the levels were low, they were not alarming. We came in for a check up a few days later and had to get another blood draw to see if sodium levels were stabilized. They came back not normal again. Only we didn't find this out until the next morning. Again we were told to go to the ER, this time we did not rush but packed and went. We eded up being at the hospital for three days were our 4 month old had a constant IV in his arm and would get blood draws up to 4x a day. In the end they said his sodium was low but not in the alarming stage. We were allowed to go home. We were also scheduled to have another blood draw but when I went to the hospital for the blood draw they told me that they would not draw his blood because they were allowed only to take 30ml of blood every month for his weight and he had 28ml of blood drawn in 2 weeks! I wish this was something our pediatrician would keep track of. I am not a medical professional and cannot know these things. Fast forward several months, we have paid our insurance deductible (for a completely pointless hospital stay) and then get an outstanding bill from Highlands, I pay it. Then we continue getting other bills even though our deductible was met. After hours on the phone with insurance, it is discovered that we were over billed by Highlands and they were paid by our insurance and us and now we need a refund from them. So in summary, we wasted time, money, energy and most importantly our newborn had excessive, needless blood draws. Not to mention I had ended breastfeeding, when I could have continued. I later was made aware that our low weight situation was not unique and others with preemies saw the same slow/low weight gain. The sodium was a byproduct. I understand that doctors, especially pediatricians want to err on the safe side but after talking to other medical professionals it seems that with more experience and knowledge of preemie/c-section babies a lot of this could have been avoided. read more

Hmm.. not a good experience at all... When we went for our very first newborn checkup one day after our discharge from the hospital, we were told there was some concern with jaundice.. so they did a bilirubin blood draw during our appointment, which was at 10am that morning. Hours passed without us hearing anything from them, so we thought everything was good. At 9pm that same night, we received a call from our pediatrician (who we didn't even meet during this appointment by the way..) telling us to rush to the nicu as our daughter's bilirubin level was extremely high. It takes ONE hour for these bilirubin tests to process.. why weren't we informed earlier in the day??? It was a very traumatic experience for me as a first time mother! Despite this horrible horrible experience and after 5 nights in the NICU, we decided to come back to this practice. We finally met our "official" pediatrician during this second visit (we met with a different one during our first visit). Due to the jaundice, our baby had to come in weekly to meet with a doctor and every few days for a weight check with a nurse. In the three weeks, we met a different provider every single time despite being told during the meet and greet that we would have one primary provider. Out of the three, we really only liked one. Also, the nurses weren't at all knowledgeable... As we met with the nurses more often than with the doctors, it would be nice if they could answer questions or offer suggestions on what to do. They always seemed like they were rushing...Never really asking us if we had any questions or even how we were doing! Overall, I think this practice has taken on way too many patients and has lost quality points as a result. I will not be recommending this place to my new mom friends. read more

We've finally left HIP after 4 years. We were shuffled around to multiple doctors and felt the inadequate coordination of care that others in the community have expressed concern about. We were given a difficult time about wanting to meet with both of the new hires before deciding the best fit for us, they wanted us to just go with who we were assigned. After being moved through three doctors, this felt unfair. Finally, and why I'm finally submitting a review, we were told that our medical records would be transferred to our new doctor, went to the appointment, and were then informed that our records were not actually sent because "it is a waste of paper if you are not 100% sure you are switching." Thankfully, our new doctor gave the correct immunizations, but what if we had not followed the state's suggested schedule? I want to recommend to others that, when choosing a pediatrician, it is important to get a sense for work culture (why do good doctors keep leaving this practice and they hire less experienced people?), and also talk to others about their experience just trying to navigate communications/administrative staff. I really really wanted HIP to be the long-term provider for our kids. I have never posted a Yelp review before. Really encourage Highlands families to interview friends and current clients and ask folks why they are leaving, before investing as much hope as we did. read more

First of all, I have to admit that I found a great pediatric practice a year ago when my son was born. I really loved them, but a few months after my son was born, we moved, and I wanted to find something closer to home. I didn't want to find a new pediatrician unless it was the perfect fit for my family, and HIP really has been the perfect fit for us so far. Why do we love it so? - The waiting room is awesome. They split the sick and well kids and have fun things for them to climb on/in. But we've been about four times so far and haven't had to wait very long at all. - The office staff has always been friendly, supportive, kind, and, most importantly, they are great to my son. - Dr. Kono has a great demeanor and is easy to talk to. - My son had some kind of allergic reaction, so we were a little nervous and had to have blood taken. It's a surprisingly traumatic experience to have a baby's blood drawn, and the staff was really kind and did a great job during the whole experience. When they received the results, Dr. Kono called to discuss everything with my wife and me and we felt like he spent lots of time answering our questions. HIP offers other services in the space, like drop-in yoga classes and workshops, but we haven't attended any yet, so I can't vouch for them. But I'm looking forward to going in the future, and I'll update my review. read more

Dr. Bryan Kono just opened this practice in the Highlands. I wound up with my son as a patient because of high praise the Highlands Mommies had for Dr. Kono. As usual, they were right. My son is 11 weeks. We saw Dr. Kono a week ago and he diagnosed him with a respiratory virus. Since that appointment, he called to check on Mars two times, one time on the weekend. Today, we went back because I was worried about my son's progress. My husband and I recently downsized to one car. He dropped me off at the appointment but had to drop his work truck off at the garage. Due to snowfall during rush hour, was super late picking me up. And his phone died, so I wasn't sure when he would make it. Dr. Kono offered to take me and my son home! I knew my husband was on the way, and didn't want him to go out of his way! So I declined. We waited around some more...I was starting to get concerned. Finally, Dr. Kono insisted on taking us home. I reluctantly agreed and put a note on the door. Just as he had finished dusting the snow off his car, my husband pulled up. There are few people who go above and beyond in their daily careers, so it's absolutely shocking when it happens. Also, he cares about his patients and doesn't have an iota of an ego. In fact when he calls you on the phone, he just says his name (Bryan. Not Doctor Kono.) As a sidenote, I have a client who is a DENTIST. When he calls me, he refers to himself as Dr. so-and-so. His email is drsoandso@drsoandso.com It's gross. Dr. Kono is completely opposite of him -- he's humble, gracious and more than deserving of his title. Also, I ADORE his staff. Nurse Suzie (Susie?) cares about my son and is wonderfully personable. She's truly great. And front desk Lindsey is sweet as well. Oh and this isn't just a pediatrician's office! They will have yoga, workshops and classes here as well. And they've got fatboy beanbags! This is a wonderful practice that will surely grow like crazy. Get in now while you can! read more

I really wanted Highlands Integrative to be awesome but it just isn't. I started taking both my kids here for well child visits about 6 moths ago. The office is very nice and new and desk staff is friendly. Since we are new, all new patients were being assigned to the PA, Stacy (?). She is ok and that's that. Nothing remarkable. She didn't answer simple questions regarding vaccinations. It's fine. Nothing amazing and nothing terrible but just middle of the road. I will continue to take my kids for regular weigh ins but will continue to rely on our amazing doc (who is out of network with our insurance) for personal recommendations and questions and real help. read more

We have been taking my son to see Dr. Bryan Kono since he was born. He was one of the physicians at the pediatric office we went to and Bryan diagnosed him with pyloric stenosis when no one else in the office thought it could be that. Because of him, we were able to get my son into surgery and got it taken care of. We have been dedicated to Dr. Kono ever since. My son is now 5 and we have a newborn daughter that we take to see him as well, of course. One of the things we love about Dr. Bryan is that he is really laid back and is willing to talk with us about anything, without rushing AT ALL. My son actually likes going to the doctor because he really enjoys talking to Dr. Bryan. He makes us all feel comfortable and like we are friends, instead of just his patients. His new office is comfortable and his entire staff is friendly and helpful. I can email them for paperwork or with questions and they always get back to me really quickly and never make me feel like I am bothering them. I highly recommend Dr. Kono. HIP seems to pride themselves on being a holistic, supportive practice but in my experience they are not. We began seeing Dr Kono for my newborn son but were quickly transferred over to Dr Foust due to Kono's busy schedule. Dr Foust initially appears extremely warm, sweet, and supportive but does not really have your best interest in mind. My son turned out to be a little complex medically and I think was too much for Dr Foust to handle. He had full body eczema by 2months old and Dr Foust declared it was "just eczema" with no cause. My son had slow growth and she pushed formula on me even though I wanted to exclusively breastfeed. She has a way of being overly sweet to make you feel bad about yourself and pressure you into things you don't want to do. When I had issues with milk supply, I was told by another practitioner that on occasion, pediatricians will prescribe domperidone to the mother since milk supply directly affects the baby. When I called to ask about this, the nurse on the line, Suzy, outright laughed at me and then talked down to me and spoke negatively about my other practitioner. Extremely unprofessional and rude. I cried after she told me she would not help me. I continually asked Dr Foust about a referral for allergy testing but she did not want to give me a referral because she didn't think it could possibly be food allergies. She wanted to do steroid creams which is ironic since my son had slow growth and steroid creams stunt growth. Finally she agreed to do allergy testing but referred me to an allergist at National Jewish who didn't exist! Who does that?! So I scheduled with the allergist of my choice and we found that my son has allergies to dairy, gluten, soy, eggs, all nuts, avocado, and corn. Once we removed all allergens his skin became completely clear. Dr Foust also frequently pushed vaccines on us even though we told her we would not be vaccinating due to my son's medical conditions. Instead of being respectful, she would continue to bring it up and imply that we were making the wrong decision. To me, Dr Foust lacks the experience necessary to handle a wide variety of pediatric clients. If your child has no complex issues, this practice may suit you fine. But for any family who has kids with issues or really strives for a holistic experience and finding the root cause of issues, HIP is not a good choice. They truly led me astray when I was on the hunt for a natural practice. read more

The billing agent they use is terrible. They will NEVER call you back. It doesn't matter how many messages you leave, don't except a call back. I've been over billed twice, we are out of network and pay cash every time. We then received a bill. I have tried to contact the office about the bill, I get transferred to the billing office where I leave a detailed message and never get a call back. Save yourself the hassle, go somewhere else. We have also been passed along to several doctors in the 5 years we have been there. I go to schedule an appointment only to find out our doctor is no longer practicing there and someone else has taken over their patients. No letter to tell me. No introduction to the new doctor. Customer service is not a priority here. read more

We saw Sarah Pilarowski in February because we have a son who is not growing very well. We had his medical records sent 2 weeks beforehand and drove from the mountains for our appointment. Dr. Pilarowski had not looked at his medical records before the office visit. This was frustrating because she was very unprepared. She finally did find the CD that had arrived from our pediatrician's office and browsed through his medical records with the response "Well, I really can't do anything for you, you need to see a geneticist." Our son's case is somewhat complicated, but we did see another holistic pediatrician, Debby Hamilton, recently, and she was actually a huge help. Ordered some testing and recommended we eliminate dairy and put him on some vitamins - i.e. - at least trying something. Perhaps we just had a bad experience, but we left the office feeling pretty disappointed. I came close to calling our insurance company to ask them not to pay since I don't feel like we really received much service. read more

I have two daughters that have been here since birth. Stacey is their PA and she is so beyond amazing! We do not EVER feel as if we are just number and are being rushed. Stacey has always been kind and ready to listen to any questions or concerns we may have. I always leave the girls' appointments feeling more than pleased with the care we have received. The front desk receptionists are also always kind and welcoming. This is a great practice! read more

When we schedule well in advance, I can always get double appointments to bring my twins together, which I appreciate. We really wanted to like HIP - it's in a convenient location and we heard great things. Unfortunately, one of the nurse practitioners, failed us multiple times with our preemie, newborn son. We were going in for weight checks every other day the first 6 weeks of his life, due to his small size and difficulty gaining weight. There were a few different issues we brought up to her during this time, that were blown off. This resulted in 3 ER visits and 1 surgery for our 6 week old (not to mention the insurmountable medical bills that came from this). We felt that she was very patronizing and really didn't take us, or our concerns, seriously. When I asked to change pediatricians, I was told "no." Finally, after my son's emergency surgery, I made an appointment with Dr. Bryan, who was wonderful. He heard us out and said we can see him exclusively, but by that point, we had lost all trust in this practice and changed to a new pediatrician's office altogether. Overall, I am extremely disappointed by the level of service here. Many of my son's health issues (and the $20k of medical bills) could have been mitigated if this nurse practitioner would have really heard us and taken us seriously. read more

Intelligent, friendly ..... Every doctor you can see here is knowledgeable and diligent. Nurses are not very knowledgeable but they're super friendly and the intelligent doctors make up for them! Nurses are very good at calling back and they do not hesitate to speak to the doctors. They seem to have an amazing work model. read more

We went in only for a flu shot clinic. The folks at the front desk were very kind and helpful, although the nurse who administered my 3 year old child the shot herded us like cattle rapidly back into a room. She didn't even glance at my paperwork which thankfully didn't but could have had important safety or health information regarding my child. She made my daughter lie down and made me pin her arms to the bed for a thigh-shot which was completely unnecessary and made it MORE traumatic and far less comfortable for my daughter, who would have been completely fine and calm just sitting up and taking the shot normally. I understand other kids kick and scream, but mine is actually well-behaved and doesn't freak out. She very haphazardly stabbed the needle into my child, gave the shot and rushed out of the room. This nurse was honestly a rude b*tch who clearly cares nothing for children's safety, comfort or well-being. She didn't even bother to give us her name but was 50-60's, short and overweight with short-cropped masculine hair. She could have given my child the completely wrong shot for all I know. Will not return to this place and I'd recommend seeking somewhere else for your child's safety. read more

I've never waited more than a few minutes to see the doctor. When our daughter was sick, they made a same-day appointment within an hour of the time we wanted. The nurses have ranged from good to great, and our pediatrician is sweet, attentive, and never makes us feel rushed. I don't know what the other reviews are about, but they don't sound like this clinic. read more

I have not been impressed with this office. First, I seem to always wait 20 minutes from the time nurse checks us in until the Dr. comes in. Second, when my child was sick I tried to get in the same day and they said they were full and offered for me to go into a walk in clinic (this would cost lots of extra $$). Third, another time my child was sick I tried to get her in the next day and they told me to call that morning. I explained I was trying to plan my work day and such and was hoping to get an appointment for the next day and they said due to people cancelling time slots they aren't able to do this. To me it sounds like they put their business needs in front of the well being of their patients. I don't feel that we receive the best care either. When we go in there they brush us off as first time parents and don't let us know anything to watch out for to be proactive. I've tried to like this place but it's been difficult. read more

I love this office. I checked out a few before picking this one. My son goes to Dr. Sarah and she has been wonderful with us. My son spent 7 weeks in the NICU before joining the practice and they have been great with his special needs in this first year. I have received breastfeeding support, lots of referrals for other things he needed and feel we receive very personal attention by the whole practice, not just Dr. Sarah. I love the out of hours texting service - which thankfully I've only used once. They return calls quickly, appts are on time, and personal attention with great advice. read more

First off we switched a year and half ago to this office and in that time we went through 3 different doctors! They never could keep another Doctor besides Dr. Bryan Kono, who is not taking new clients. I was going to stick it out until we moved more south and it was an hour (non traffic) drive to get there. After two visits post move I decided we needed something closer. I just recently called the office looking for a preservative free flu shot for my 4 year old daughter who has asthma and can't receive the flu mist. Let me remind you that we went there for over a year and haven't even been to the new pediatricians office yet!! The office we switched to has run out of the preservative flu shot! I was literately told that Dr. Kono made the decision and would not give my daughter the shot. I can't believe an office that we were going to could be so inconsiderate!! I'm disgusted that l ever took my children to Highlands Integrated Pediatrics. I honestly can tell you why other Doctors don't stay. I have a feeling Dr. Kono is hard to work with, probably pays the others like crap because there is a different side to that office! Oh and after I told the lady who answered the phone that we made the switch to another office because of the move and I felt I needed incase of emergency Doctors closer she was RUDE and I couldn't believe it. Trust me take your kids somewhere else where the staff and MAIN doctor care about there well being not money nor anything else!! read more

I had not had my youngest when I wrote my initial review in 2013. I realized you don't actually know the extent of how awesome your pediatrician is until you have a need for an awesome pediatrician. My youngest left St. Joseph Hospital "healthy" only to find out he was a silent aspirator months later. We went to one children's hospital and disagreed with the treatment plan after being held hostage for 2 weeks inpatient. Dr. Bryan was supportive of our decision to leave for a second opinion. He researched and thought that our son could be a good candidate for a specialty clinic at another childrens hospital but when we called to get in, it was going to be a 2 month wait. Dr. Bryan and his team made the calls and contacts necessary to get us in the clinic much sooner. My little guy is just regular kid now with the support of Dr. Bryan and his assistant Suzie. Anything I asked for, he supported and provided calm guidance. He listens to parents on what they feel is best for their kid. He stayed late to call me while we were in the hospital and referred us to great specialists. He is top notch. One of the hospitals even mentioned that they refer their most difficult cases to him. read more

Although his office is about a half hour from where we live, the drive is well worth it. He has an amazing bedside manner with children. We love Dr. Kono, however they've taken on too many patients and as of Fall 2015 they no longer offer high quality service. You can no longer make an appt to get the flu shot as in the past, you now have to come to one of their Thurs evening or Sat morning clinics a few weeks out. Frustrating to a working parent. I checked with parents at other pediatrics clinics and was told this was not the norm. It's too bad because I like their approach with eastern & western medicine. However getting your child in for an appt for something as important as vaccines should not be denied & I was denied an appt. read more
