I did a walk-in for a navel piercing and unfortunately my experience was disappointing. There was little to no communication throughout the appointment, the piercer didn't go over the process or check my anatomy beforehand. I was simply told to lay down and the only words exchanged were "okay, I'm going to go one, two, three." At first the placement looked slightly low, but after a few days I realized the jewelry sits too far inside my navel and the top ball leans forward and sticks out. I reached out to other piercers and confirmed me that it was not done correctly. So my daughter reminded me that I said on her 18th birthday she could get a piercing . We found this place in a corner of a shopping plaza. We walked in no one was there to greet us we walked around the reception area and looked inside the display cases, sketches of drawings were pinned along the walls, shelves of cleaning materials for after getting something pierced or tattooed. I went in without an appointment and was seen fairly quickly for the amount of people there was waiting. Holly was my piercer and she made it pretty comfortable for me! It had been a while since I have gotten anything pierced so she made me feel pretty chill about everything. I was in and out really quick and she also gave me a card with instructions on how to take care of it. She also double checked to make sure I liked the placement of my piercing. Honestly I've been coming to Highlander for 6 years only to be pierced by Monica (my favorite, hands down). She's done my snake eyes, nose a few times with it falling out or whatever the case might have been, and finally my nipples. I have no complaints for her. But when I went yesterday to re pierce my belly button after not having it in for over a year, I was pierced by the daytime piercer. Lady in the front said she's been doing this for 7 years when I was skeptical about not having Monica do my piercing which is what I was hoping for. Verrina (daytime piercer) took me back and made a few comments and had questions about my belly piercing before. Verrina reassured me it would be quick and easy and it was but while doing it, she didn't mark a spot, didn't let me see where the piercing would be, and didn't ask if i was ready when she went to do the actual piercing. She claimed the piercing is supposed to be higher than where the navel is for specific reasons as seen in the pic of how high it is, which is understandable. But my main concern is that the piercing has way to much skin in between both of the holes she made in me over my previous scarring from the last navel piercing I had. I just feel if she asked me how I liked the location or even made a mark it wouldn't be irritated or bleeding as it is. Long story short, just wait for Monica. I regret not waiting. I only tipped her 2$ for assisting me with my cartilage piercings that I had got somewhere else (unrelated to belly piercing). I came in for a piercing. The woman up front was friendly but the person doing the actual piercing could have been a bit more personable. I was in the shop maybe all of 10 minutes and the entire time I felt awkward. The actual piercing process was okay and I am pleased with the outcome but I guess I was just hoping for better customer service. I know the piercing is inexpensive but that shouldn't mean the service should be lacking. My piercer barely spoke to me. She marked where she thought the piercing should be, handed me a mirror and just did it. I expected a little more communication about the process ("it's going to be quick, it may hurt initially but it will quickly subside, dont be alarmed by the blood you may see, etc.") but maybe I was asking for too much. I have several tattoos but haven't gotten any sort of piercing in 16 years so I was a bit nervous. Luckily it was quick and I could get out of there. IF YOU VALUE YOUR MONEY, TIME, AND A JOB WELL DONE, PLEASE DON'T GO HERE. The receptionist at the counter was rude as could be. I can not remember a time I've had worse service. She was not friendly at all and made my friend and I feel as if *we* were intruding by coming in to have a service done. The tattoo artist was a LOT nicer, but I still think they were not as professional as they could be. I told him that this would be my first tattoo. Once it was done (Very small, so it was quick and relatively painless), he did not wrap it up or give me any aftercare instructions. I basically had to ask all the pertinent questions. Thank God my friend was with me to clarify things. To top it off, my tattoo has COMPLETELY FADED. And I don't mean looking washed out, I mean d i s a p p e a r e d. I decided to get a small crescent moon on the palm side of my middle finger. I know that palm tattoos fade relatively fast due to use of your hands, but this was in about two weeks time. I don't know if the tattoo artist did not go deep enough? Payment is taken up front and I left the artist a generous tip. But I was so displeased with the overall experience that I'm not even bothering to go back to have my tattoo fixed. I would suggest Chicago Tattoo in Winter Park. That is where my friend recently had a foot tattoo done and it came out amazing! I came to this tattoo shop from out of town cause I knew it is the home of the $20 piercings. I got my septum, Helix, and conch pierced by a very nice young lady. And it went by so fast that I was in and out in probably 10 mins. She handed me a card and told me that the Aftercare instructions were on it and I was on my way. A few days later I started to realize that my septum was sitting kinda low. Lower than it should be so I went to get a second opinion. Come to find out that I was DEFINITELY pierced in the wrong spot on my septum ( not my Sweet Spot ) and that my Helix ( which I wasn't inspecting) was rocking COSTUME JEWELRY and was starting to tarnish. The piercer looking at it thought it came out of a bubble gum machine. My piercing is 10 days old. Piercing jewelry should not tarnish ever. And the jewelry was pushed down so tight that it wasn't getting fully cleaned and was damaging the piercing itself. Needless to say my septum and helix had to get removed. I would NEVER recommended this place for piercing. $20 or not. You get what you paid for. BTW my conch is doing fine. read more

Okay , so this will be very long. I've been a customer before with highlander honestly several times I've gone and got piercings done. I've always been pierced by a you g lady with long black hair and has tons of facial piecing as from what i remember. Her work was always amazing. Until i went in one day to get my belly pierced unfortunately the girl i usually had wasn't there anymore from the looks of it because the way she decorated the piercing room was all gone. So this lady with blondish short hair ended up doing my piercing and she was super sweet and all but after a week of having my piercing i started to notice signs of infection and i was extremely bummed out and called to talk to her and she explained to me to leave it alone let it heal and continue cleaning it. Well i did do all of that. 2 months later still nothing. She keeps just telling me to let it heal every time i call. As of today i decided to take it out and had to go to another shop to have someone take it out because as you can see she clearly pierced it with just a thin piece of my skin! Like you can literally see the piercing bar through my skin. So completely explains why it couldn't heal. Just went and got my nose pierced for the first time last night and I can't get over how fast and simple the process was. I had been researching for a while trying to find a good place in Orlando. Some of my friends told me about highlander, so I went there. All the employees were super nice and didn't hesitate to answer any of my questions. (Even though I felt like some were silly) I was greeted and immediately taken back to the piercing room. I got to pick out the color stud I wanted and everything was done in less than 10 minutes from the time I walked in. Super professional and clean. Definitely recommending highlander to everyone I know! Ps, they use a needle that already has a stud attached to it which was awesome because I was expecting to have a needle dangling out of my nose while they pulled the stud through. ve never left a review. I've also never complained. But I really need to. I went in the first week of September to get my conch pierced. Upon the initial piercing, it was swollen (normal) but still felt extremely tight. I asked the piercer if I could get the hoop loosened and she said "no, the swelling will go down on it's own." I I insisted that it was too tight but kept getting reassured that it was normal. The pain and aching persisted and I noticed that the piercing itself was ripping. I don't sleep on that side of my face and take EXTRA precautions as well as clean very thoroughly. I called the shop and they said it's just the way it looks. I ended up opening the hoop myself to relieve myself of some of the pain. The swelling THEN started to go down (about after almost 3 weeks of swelling and extreme discomfort and pain). But unfortunately, because the piercing ripped (like any normal body) my body started to try to heal the wound. I ended up with this irritation bubble that was almost like a pustule. Omg. I went to another tattoo shop to get it removed and now am in the process of healing as well as have a lovely scar to show. Upon getting it removed I was informed of two VERY important factors when getting your conch pierced. First - you should always pierce with an orbital and never a hoop. Because of the swelling the hoop may cause ripping. If you do decide to pierce with a hoop, it needs to be very big to accommodate the swelling. Second - you also need a thicker gauge when piercing a conch. Not a 16 gauge. The smaller the gauge, the more likely you'll have an issue. I was also informed by the piercer who took out my piercing as well as another piercer who I'm looking to do other piercings of mine that they both have many people come from this shop to either fix or remove butchered piercings. At the shop I was at, a tattoo artist even said they've heard horror stories from this shop. That's not really a coincidence... Anyway. I also had to ask for cleaning instructions and the little card that's supposed to be given out because after the piercing, she owed me the mirror and said thank you. I looked at her for a while and she didn't say anything about aftercare. So I proceeded to ask for myself. When I was there she looked SUPER baked. It could be me, but her eyes were extremely bloodshot, low and she just looked very out of it. Yes, it's cheap. Yes, it looks good in the meantime. I got a double nose piercing. It was piercing angled and they're not even with each other. The left side is more back and up while the right side is a bit down and forward. Also the L-shaped studs were super sharp and made me bleed constantly from stabbing the inside of my nose. read more
