Short version: Do not use the venue as their management is unreliable and will change wedding…read moreaccommodations at a moment's notice. When we initially scheduled our wedding, we worked with Reagan. Reagan seemed nice but we had weak communication because she was let go in the middle of our wedding process. At the time of signing the contract we were promised space for both the Bride and Groom to get ready along with assurances that day-of organization would be handled by herself. Specifically we were told that meals would be served off of the seating chart/meal information we provided to Reagan (this is relevant later). We then had to meet with Carrie, Reagan's replacement, to discuss our wedding. At this meeting we were told to resign the event contract. We resigned as this was 6 months before our wedding date. At this time nothing seemed to be wrong. A schedule was also provided by the bride for the day of the event (timings, dinner time, cake cutting times, etc). 30 days before the wedding we were informed that the space for the Bride and Groom was not available any longer. Specifically, the Bride's space was an overnight accommodation for the wedding party to get ready. The owner of the country club made an executive decision that the spaces were no longer allowed to be used. We were given the choice of either canceling our wedding 30 days before the date or spending an extra 1,000 dollars on a limo and off-site accommodations for the Bride; we chose the latter. The day before the wedding, at the rehearsal, we met someone who is the main manager of weddings at the country club. Unfortunately we do not have her name documented on our side and cannot find her on the Williams Golf & Country Club website. This was the first time we had ever heard her name or met her. For simplicity I am going to refer to her as Amy. Amy's input is the reason this is a two star review instead of a one star review as she made an effort to resolve some issues caused by the venue. We were informed that Amy needed our meal place cards. Amy explained that the contract stipulated we needed them for meals to be served. We explained that both the contracts we signed stated nothing to that effect. In addition Amy stated we could now use the space reserved for the Groom (but not the Bride)if we needed to. Again, we already spent money to work around the ultimatums the venue gave us 30 days prior, so we could no longer utilize the space on such short notice. It was at this time it was discovered that the specifics in the contracts we had signed were not being honored by the venue. After some back and forth it was discovered we were given the old/wrong version of the contract and we were expected to make corrections to our event to accommodate for the mistakes of the venue. At the last minute, the night before the wedding, we were able to have place cards made to resolve the meal issues at our own expense and inconvenience. The day of the wedding most things went well involving the venue; the staff was nice, the food was good, and the venue was pretty. At about 7:45 Amy informed the Groom while the Bride was away getting photos that the chef was going to be leaving for the night at 8pm and asked if we wanted him to cut our cake; once he left we would be forced to cut our own cake for our guests. This was a service we had paid for. Without too much hassle the cake was cut by the chef, but the short notice was odd. We were later informed that our cake, made up of either chocolate or vanilla, was only having the vanilla portion served to guests; no one got chocolate except the bride who specifically requested it. At this time I would like to mention we barely interacted with Carrie ever since we had been informed of the on-site accommodation changes 30 days prior. Almost all work was done by Amy. I would not recommend using Williams Golf & Country Club for your wedding. The venue is beautiful, but the venue is clearly unable to honor their contracts. I would avoid this venue and not trust them to honor the paperwork that you sign.

My grandparents have been living in Oglebay for over 50 years. I absolutely adore Oglebay! I love…read morethe lodge and the new updates they've made, the glass house, the museum inside of the mansion, the beautiful views throughout the hills, it's truly an incredible place. I have been going to Oglebay since I was very little, and still continue to visit due to my grandparents living there... but I will say the kids Park absolutely needs renovated. There are so many trip hazards and the entire park is very old and has outdated play equipment. I highly suggest they take some of the funds that they receive for Oglebay and put it into making a new park for the kids. The paddle boats and all the new updated activities are great, but for kids to play at the park, safely, that should be the next focus. As you can see in my photos, every season is gorgeous, and the walking trails throughout are really nice for exercise. There's a restaurant now located on the grounds, I would say it's a little overpriced, but the food is good. I've stayed in the room several times over the years, and some of them are old and outdated, and some of them are really nice and new. I appreciate both. No matter what, they always keep the hotel portion clean. I would say the hot tub seems to have some issues here and there, that pool and hot tub have been there since before I can remember. There's new restaurants inside of the lodge as well, and they also have ravenous reviews. Christmas time is always beautiful, and the beautiful bloom of the flowers during spring is quite a sight to see. Apparently, the zoo will now have lions and beekeeper, I'm excited to take my baby to visit this spring! If you're thinking about visiting, do not hesitate you will enjoy it as much as my family I have for many decades.

If you have young children in town, Schenk Lake is a nice spot for a short boat ride or to try fishing! Originally a private country estate of 750 acres purchased in 1901 by Earl W. Oglebay, he donated the land to the City of Wheeling in 1928 to create a public park and education center. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) helped to build out the trails in the 1930s. Overall, it may be worth a stop here if you have young kids. However, I found the park to be kind of "meh" due to a lack of scenic views. At the end of the day, it's just a nice public park.

Tomlinson Run State Park offers breakfast at the campground on Saturdays from 8am-12pm, Memorial Day through Labor Day, and it's truly a hidden gem. The food was absolutely delicious--hot, fresh, and made with care. What's even better? It's all prepared by amazing volunteers, and every dollar goes right back into supporting the park. You can really feel the community pride in every bite. We'll definitely be back again before the season ends. If you're local (or even just passing through), make the stop. It's a great way to kick off a Saturday morning surrounded by nature and good people.

First time visiting this park. It is on the small side compared to other WV State Parks. This means…read morethat it is faster to get to where you are going in the park (no long road in). As you enter the park there is a road to the right that takes you to the campground (BTW, I have rated the campground separately under Campground at Tomlinson Run State Park). As you drive forward you will pass the Park Superintendent's house (on the right). Behind the house is a tiny building that serves at the park HQ. This is where you need to go if you want to stamp your VIPP card. Not obvious and you feel like you trespassing on the residence there but just drive past and then to your right and find the stamp. Along this road on the left you will find a picnic area and shortly after you will come to the edge of a small lake (on the left). On the right is the entrance to a road the winds up and around to the top of a hill (through the woods). There are two picnic areas. The first is off to the left before really heading up the hill. This one was buggy when I was there. At the top of the hill there is a parking lot and picnic areas. Nice spot! The road that goes through the park continues onward and then there is a parking area on the right above the lake. At the lake's edge are paddle boat rentals. If you continue on the road straight on the road you will end up exiting the park.
