This is a beautiful library. The outside of the building is equally gorgeous.

You are greeted by librarians upon entering. It's a gorgeous library worth exploring. Free wifi, a few computers, and some cushy chairs to hunker down in while reading a newspaper or book......or taking a cat nap As I left, a librarian actually told me, "come back soon." I most definitely will!

They have a cool outdoor path on the side

This library was very pretty with that historic charm you don't see often in the metroplex. It is also located in the middle of a fancy neighborhood which resulted in little parking space. I found a spot on the street pretty easily but I can see it being difficult if it was a busier time on day. The first thing I noticed was this outdoor space on the side of the building. It had a nice stone walkway and a creek below. It's not very big but it's pretty and worth checking out! Going into the building, it was very quiet as a library should be. SO quiet, I felt I needed to hold my breathe even lol. The rooms were more on the cozy side too. The upstairs and downstairs seemed the same besides the upstairs having another smaller room for children's books. I also couldn't access the wifi on my phone, not sure if I just couldn't find it or if you need to use the libraries computers to use it. Another section of the building is used as their municipal court. Didn't really need/want to explore that side. Overall it was an nice place to check out but I like libraries with more open space, parking and wifi. I also appreciate studying/reading in quiet places too but it was just too quiet here, I felt uncomfortable to even pull a chair out to sit lol.

It's a very pretty building. Outside.

The Highland Park Library is perfectly tucked inside the HP City Hall building, located on Drexel Drive. It's architecture is that of Spanish Colonnial Revival, originally built in 1924. There are a ton of ornate and decorative trim and painting embellishments that just delight one's eye and sense of elegant style. The main hallway with the many coved and coffed ceiling arches is my favorite ornamental element of design. Second up in uniqueness are the 3 front water fountains decked out in indigo blue & crimson red mosaic tiles that just pop against the creamy serene vanilla stucco building and color theme. Of course darlings, this being THY ONE AND ONLY HIGHLAND PARK, only HP residents can obtain a Highland Park Library card. But do not fret book lovers. The state of Texas has a book share program called, TexShare, which allows any Texas resident access to over 500 participating Texas libraries outside their city limits. Simply apply for a TexShare Library Card at your current library and go to one of the other state branches for book check out opportunities. Highland Park Library is a member of this program, so with proper ID, your current and valid library card, along with your TexShare card can checking out material from this faculty be possible. It's kinda hob snobbery and a tad elitist, but getting access to great, quality books in a pretty spot is worth the effort. As well, business casual guests can sit and enjoy the facilities with complimentary wifi and gourmet coffee. It's a small, but well stocked library with the circulation and information desk on the main floor. The second floor has several relaxing sitting areas too. Both floors have beautifully designed fireplaces, not sure if they are functional in cooler months; Let's hope so. A big 10' arched window on the staircase landing between floors, flows tons of beautiful sunlight and views of the surrounding well manicured neighborhood. It was interesting to see part of the natural springs in this area still run under the buildings. Walk around to the west of the HP City Hall to see this natural creek undisturbed. It's great they built around and didn't try to dam or impede the water from trickling through. It was here before any of us and will hopefully do so, long after our departure. Happy book reading!!

I love the reference rooms and the reference librarians. Both David and Jane know the answers to anything and everything and are happy to help. They are willing to read over your papers and submit edits, which makes a huge difference when professors are picky about citations and footnotes. Bridwell is one of the main reasons why I chose to attend Perkins School of Theology and move to Dallas, Texas. This is a library that you must visit if you ever find yourself on SMU's campus.

They've got really nice tables, with comfortable chairs in a magnificent setting, right in the heart of the SMU campus. This is a theology library, so don't expect any copies of Green Eggs and Ham, or the latest Stephen King thriller. Their collection is large, deep, and historical. Get this- they actually have a copy of the Gutenburg Bible here, arguably one of the rarest and most valuable books in existence. I've tried to order it at my local library via an Interlibrary Loan, but got rejected. They let you look at it, but want to be there to show it off with white gloves. They provide you with any items to take notes with. It's really quite exquisite and beautiful. This is a great place to do some research on theology, and to post up for exams. You're not going to get bothered here, it's quiet. Downstairs, be sure to check out the mechanical bookshelves, which move with a push of a button. Swanky!

A Christmas tree made of books. Yes, I did say books! It was truly a moment of whimsy and warmth. Comfortable furniture with enough space that many different people could feel secure and comfortable while visiting, reading, or working. And the staff was truly kind. They smiled at everyone who entered and engaged with us in a way that made you feel seen. Now, for the part that touched my heart the most... people between homes gathered in this beautiful library. Respectfully, humbly, and with ease. Everyone in the building felt like they belonged. Everyone felt comfortable. We all felt each other's presence and it was an easy presence.
