I stayed at Highland Home for 20 days for rehabilitation following surgery for a broken hip. I was very pleased with the care I received -- doctors, nurses, CNA's, physical therapists and occupational therapists. All staff in the facility were wonderful to me, always friendly and caring. The cleaning crew kept everything clean and they were always very friendly and cordial. The food was wonderful!! I plan to go back for a visit one day when I'm able to drive again, just because they were so good to me and I truly loved them all. read more

We placed Mom who is in her 90's in Highland Home, Ridgeland, MS for rehab after hip replacement surgery. Due to our knowledge of shortage of staff in most rehab/nursing home facilities, our family made the decision to provide around-the-clock care for our Mom, which included bathing, feeding, bathroom assistance, etc. The administrative, housekeeping, OT/PT & the majority of the floor nurses & CNAs were very kind and helpful, the accommodations and food were very good. However, our major concern was the medical leadership team. Our Mom began having urges to go to the bathroom throughout the day & night (as many as 30 times between 12am-12-pm-we kept a log & shared with nursing staff). Due to the severity of these urges, Mom could not rest or stay in her OT/PT sessions. On the advice of a medical family member, we asked medical staff at Highland Home to order urinalysis to determine if she had a UTI. My sister made them aware that a small amount of feces was in the bedpan they used to collect the specimen which contaminated the results. To our knowledge they did not redo the test, but informed us that she did not have a UTI. The urges continued & we assumed it was her early dementia. The day after she was discharged, we carried her to her primary physician who immediately diagnosed her with a UTI & prescribed an antibiotic. To us, this was clear evidence of medical negligence, as the UTI could have escalated from a bladder infection, treatable by an antibiotic, to a serious life-threatening condition such as sepsis. As a facility that specializes in providing care for a largely elderly population, one would think that, when certain symptoms present, testing for a UTI should be part of the medical protocol. Our mother suffered unnecessarily for several days, when a simple test and antibiotic treatment could easily have resolved the issue. Due to the severity of this medical negligence and lack of follow-through from the medical leadership team, we cannot in good faith recommend Highland Home in Ridgeland, MS. read more

Mom went there to recover from a fall. Little to no therapy Was either in a wheelchair or her bed , poor wound care Said she was baseline and could only take a few steps and basically kicked her out right before big ice storm and begged for her to stay until storm passed Got her home and she used her walker and walked from the car all the way into the house and into her chair...but they said she could only take 4 or 5 steps ! They could have had her walking down the halls with her walker Very disappointed ! They talk a great game but don't back it up! read more

This place is a death trap for the elderly. You can go in if you know the code or behind someone and no type of greeting from the front desk. No monitoring or schedules for patient maintenance except lethal meds. Carpet has NEVER BEEN cleaned or replaced and you will get BED sores that will NOT be properly addressed. No wound care on the weekends so dressings are not changed at all for over 3 days. There is a laundry cart that is pushed through the halls at night like a locomotive waking up everyone that is trying to get sleep to recover. BEWARE!!! THIS PLACE IS A JOKE AND should be under review. My loved one was doped up to their death. If you are not able to be there 24 hours with your loved one, this is not the place to consider. Patients have to beg for help for the basic care. Getting assistance from the short staff is a constant battle and the staff is rude and unprofessional. I repeat, BEWARE!! Your loved one will not be treated with dignity!!! read more

My mother was assigned here after her knee replacement surgery. This has to be one of the worst run skilled nursing facilities I've ever encountered in my entire life. No one introduced themselves when we first checked in. The person who was supposed to do the paperwork was three hours late coming back from lunch. When she decided to come back from lunch, she rushed my mom through signing paperwork who was on pain medication and not all in her right mind. My mom was supposed to have physical therapy twice a day. She had it once a day or no days. She had to wait an endless amount of time When calling for assistance to get out of her bed to the point that accidents were had, and other people who didn't work there, such as family, had to help her navigate getting out of the bed and going to the restroom or going to sit in a chair, which we shouldn't have had to do and is a huge liability issue. There were several occasions when we walked to the desk and several CNA's were standing at the desk talking but we had called for help and no one had responded within 30 minutes, every single time we called for help. In addition, the facility wasn't exactly the cleanest place. There was a constant unclean unkept smell in the hallways and we constantly had to call people to wipe sinks, clean floors, empty trash cans, and other things. There's nowhere for family or loved ones to stay in the room overnight. If you try to bring a blowup bed, they will tell you that the room is no longer a single single occupancy room and it's now a double occupancy room (say what?!) and they can't allow blowup beds of any sort to be placed in the rooms with loved ones to stay overnight. My mother was given an incorrect dosage of medication and when she questioned the nurse, The nurse told her no and when the nurse was forced to go back and re-read the correct dosage, the nurse realized she was wrong And then gave my mother the correct dosage of medication. Had this been something that was an overage, this could've possibly killed her. In addition, her wound dressing was not changed when it was supposed to be changed. The food there is god awful. There's no shower or bath tub in the rooms and you have to wait in a line in a hallway to take a bath or shower. My family and I had extremely unprofessional and rude encounters with the administrators and other caseworkers and social workers there. We eventually had my mother transferred out of there to a better rehabilitation facility. But I would not recommend a homeless wet dog with three legs stay one night there. read more
