When it was time for passing, the cemetery was gracious and arranging, including a graveside spiritual ceremony at a fee. Visiting your plot, they have a kiosk in the chapel to look up the location of graves by name. The cemetery is well cared for and fine for contemplative visits any time even if you have no peeps there! That's my experience. No idea on new plots or internment requests. My experience was excellent.

After Cincinnati Nature Center made Yelp's list of best places to hike in the country, I knew I…read moreneeded to try out a yearly membership. During COVID-19, Cincinnati Nature Center (as well as Long Branch Farm) are exclusively for members (normally, you can pay a daily rate). A yearly fee of $64 (which includes a guest each time) seemed reasonable. Also during COVID-19, they have time slots for you to sign up for to access the park. I wanted to take advantage right away, but all the time slots for Cincinnati Nature Center were booked, so I decided to book a time slot at Long Branch Farms and Trails. I hadn't received my access card in the mail yet, but someone at the gate was able to let us in. All of the Trails are pretty short (the longest being about 1.5 miles). If you're feeling ambitious, you can totally tackle all the trails in one visit. I believe we walked almost all of them. Definitely plan on wearing some hiking boots if there is any moisture on the ground, you WILL get muddy. You can also stand in the shallow stream to clean off your boots a bit. The trails were well-kept. I'll definitely venture back to spend more time on the trails and find some good spots to put up a hammock!

There are constantly improvements being made as well, showing a real commitment to the place and the people who love it. There are maps available that list the trails and can be recycled when you are done as well as trail journals scattered throughout for jotting down quick thoughts or discoveries to share with fellow hikers. Mother Nature's guestbook! The main lodge has restrooms and a gift shop as well as a great little selection of books to read. There is also one of many areas available throughout the park where you can observe local birds as they go about their bird business. The naturalists are very knowledgeable and just as excited about nature as you would hope. Some trails are equipped with little learning stations that offer more information about local flora and fauna and there are descriptive boards along each section of trail that detail the type of area, improvements etc. The feeling that comes from spending time here is priceless. Every time I leave I feel like I'm breathing more easily and deeply at peace. They offer a wide range of activities and social events year round to help build the community. The trails are dog friendly and there are pet pick up bags and disposal stations throughout. For quiet hikes, try one of the longer trails or one that takes you farther from the main lodge. And be aware that on week days there tend to be class trips, so if large groups of children aren't your thing, the longer trails might be a better option too.

It seems strange to rate a cemetery with "stars" but for several years now, I've been spending my…read more"where to go, what to do?" lunch hours walking around the Historic Linden Grove Cemetery which is located near the new St. Elizabeth Hospital, in Covington. The area used to be what I'd call....sketchy, but I never gave it a second thought. Most often, I was the only person in the cemetery and now and again, it was me and mowers, But since the widening and beautification of 12th Street, the neighborhood is taking on a new pride, and the access to the cemetery is much easier to find. Still, I was the only person walking on this lovely, breezy Monday. The cemetery itself was incorporated about 1843, on land donated by the Western Baptist Theological Institute which was located near Robbins Street, in Covington. The cemetery comprises 22 acres of gorgeous land--manicured and lovingly maintained, but not "sterile" like other cemeteries. There is still clover and in the spring, carpets of sweet violets blanket the grass. The land gently slopes in some parts, which makes me think that, at one time, there was probably a water feature that has been filled in over a hundred years or so. Apparently, like the neighborhood, the cemetery fell on hard times and in 1948 was put into receivership. In 1998, the Kenton County fiscal court and the City of Covington established a fund for its care, recognizing the importance of some of the people buried there, some of Covington and Northern Kentucky's earliest citizens and prolific members of society, including an early African American physician, Senator John G. Carlisle, Civil War era Brigadier General John Finnell and countless other early German and Irish settlers. Some of the earliest stones are engraved in German and there are soldiers buried there from the War of 1812, along with Civil War and World War I and II. Unlike Spring Grove Cemetery, where you find some rather unique tombstones, the majority of the stones in Linden Grove are modest, though there are some elegantly crafted early obelisks and monuments (my favorite being erected to the memory of a beloved wife and daughter, who both died as a result of childbirth in the mid 1800's, the words few but the impact great). But, the earliest stones (to me) are the show stoppers--tall and thin, limestone, engraved with weeping willow trees or clasped hands, things you would see in early settlement cemeteries like Concord, Massachusetts. There seems to be a distinct very old "German" section that lies near Section Z, by the road to the hospital. New in the last year is the addition of interactive reading boxes on the large, mature trees, some of which probably date back to the beginning of the cemetery. The boxes provide species and description information, which is a nice thing for people like me, visiting as opposed to having someone buried there. Having spent a great deal of time doing geneolical research for my husband's family, visiting cemeteries on the West Side of Cincinnati, I find the care taken to restore and maintain the old markers at Linden Grove far better than any cemetery I've been in, save Spring Grove. And these aren't just stones of the "notable". Every where I looked today, old stones had been reinforced, repaired, cleaned, and restored, even if the print was no longer very legible. Though I'm certain not many relatives come to "visit" these folks any longer, it very much matters to me that the stones erected to their memories are preserved as a piece of our history. http://www.historiclindengrove.org/home

Withrow Nature Preserve is a good place for exercise and hiking. It has several miles of trails…read morelooping around the park. The trails are marked with interesting facts about wildlife. It's not too grueling, if you want to walk all of it. The park has a spot overlooking the Ohio River. It has signs directing you from the 275 exit. It's very helpful. The park is located along Five Mile Road. It has a good size parking lot at the entrance. There usually is more than enough room. At the beginning of the trails is the Withrow home. This is the only location of bathrooms in the park. It has a couple trails through the woods that each loop around. The better one is the Trout Lily Trail. It's a couple of miles to walk all of it. The best part is the overlook of the Ohio River. It has a small clearing with some benches. The view isn't great because it's far away, but you can still see parts of the river. If you're in Anderson Township and have a few hours for walking, this is the best place for it. It could use some more bathrooms. There's a few located at the Withrow home, so go before you hit the trails.

Unlike others that are a "lawn" configuration, Arlington is a "park" setting which means lots of trees, rolling hills and plenty of peace. Fredric J. Baur was the designer of the iconic Pringles can and my visit went smoothly. It was easy to find, near the intersection as specified on the Google Maps placemark. There was already Pringles can present but it was a little beat up by the elements. I disposed of that one and replaced it with the one I had bought just a few minutes ago at Kroger. "Original" of course. Yes, Baur stipulated in his well that a portion of his cremated ashes be sealed up in a Pringles tube. When he died, his families followed through on this desire and it's clear that I'm not the only one who is in on it. The creek runs into a river that you have to be a little more careful about since the current can be strong and sweep them away. I wouldn't recommend going too far from the shore. I often see people posted up on the beach, enjoying a picnic and/or swimming. The trails are not terribly well kept, but that's OK with me because it just is wild nature and I like that. Most recently, I took my baby and wore him in a hiking backpack. While it was a workout, we had a good time. I even let him splash in the creek for a little while and enjoy a banana while sitting in the mud. Grateful to have parks like this in our city that allow us to escape to a little slice of nature.

It also has a beautiful nature center. This is usually a good place for kids. The best way to get there is to take the Galbraith exit off 75, get on Vine, and then get onto North Bend. It has a small parking lot just off the road. The park has miles of beautiful trails. It's a good place to exercise. The trails are mostly shaded by trees. It makes it a nice place to run when it's hot. The indoor nature center is a good educational experience, and there's lots of opportunities to see wildlife. It usually is kid friendly. As one reviewer noted, sometimes unsavory things may happen. That kind of stuff is usually later at night when it's closed though.

I have been to a few funerals here, but only recently had to deal myself with arranging the funeral of my mom. All the staff, and especially Paul, were wonderful. They couldn't have been kinder and more helpful and accommodating to all our needs. Paul was very sensitive to our every concern. The prices were more than reasonable. What a joy for such decent humanity in the midst of terrible loss. Highly recommended.

On the day of my uncles funeral they had no resevered seating for family sisters,brothers nieces nephews nothing it was wherever you could fit ! My other uncle had to stand in the hall outside the room because there was no where for him to sit !! There was no organization to the line for the procession to the cemetery at all !! They should have had wife kids grand kids brothers sisters etc not a hodgepodge of get in where you fit in !!! I personal would not recommend this place at all this is not the first time this has been a mess of an ordeal !!!

It is pretty short of a trail it does have a small little creek and unfortunately a lot of the people that have height is truly not take care of it very well because they through Chick-fil-A cups and different wrappers and things on the trail so it was a short little walk is not one that I'll check out again
