UPDATE: Higher standards reached out to me and corrected their mistake and got me my merchandise by Wednesday. Love that they corrected their mistake and went out of their way to make me happy. they actually care a lot about their customers just some of their customer service staff needs to be tweaked...will shop again and recommend. Terrible company with customer service to match. Ordered a pipe on a Friday, and was told via website I would receive it on Monday. Even paid for next day shipping. By Tuesday I still hadn't received. Called to say I really need it by Wednesday and they informed that they couldn't ship out until Wednesday. They didn't care at all and had absolutely no sense of urgency. Shop with people who care about their customers. read more

I've been a regular online customer of Higher Standards for years, as well as in-person when there was a location in Atlanta. I will never do business with this company again after the last transaction... my order showed up very obviously damaged, I've reached out multiple times to get it corrected, and have been met with absolute silence. The damage was clearly in place prior to the product shipping, this was not a shipping issue. So between the higher pricing, and complete lack of service, I'm downright disgusted. I do not recommend anyone do business with these crooks. I suppose it is no shock that the ATL location shut down. read more

I have shopped here a few times and own their branded glass pieces. The staff is pleasant and abundant but not pushy. I usually feel great about my experience here. I try and shop local when I can and did not mind paying more here (it is in a tourist destination) but I now recommended you take your business somewhere it is appreciated. I recently had to do a return. I was handed off to the manager; They quickly put on their annoyed voice and proceeded to rattle off all the reasons they cannot return this product including assumptions about how I used it and whether or not I was a medical user of cannabis. I advised that they are assuming what I used the product with and if that is the stipulation of return it's not a great reason. I was met with eye rolls and a "c'mon" clearly implying I had used this with a recreationally illegal substance. At this point, their hostile attitude was unnecessary and I asked if I could provide them feedback, I was met with a quick "No!" They then told me not to interrupt them and to let them finish and that it's illegal to return this and so on up until they finally let me know they were, in fact, going to return this. All the while whispering under their breath and rolling their eyes. They advised their employee to return it and asked for a copy of the receipt. They rudely asked for the receipt a few times, which probably wasn't needed as I'm sure the employee is capable of a receipt print out. Perhaps a manager with better people skills would also respect their direct reports better. All this talk about how it's illegal and blah blah blah, all to just return it anyway is how you take an opportunity to create a promoter of your brand and turn them into a detractor of your brand. Next time try "It sucks to hear you were not happy with a product we stock, I want you to know we are going to get this resolved and returned but first I have to let you know that this is an exception we won't be able to make again due to blah blah blah. Have a great day!" All this because they are "Doing me a favor and not having me return online", they stated they thought returning online is a worse experience. I would prefer returning online to being berated in the store. Although since they did not respond to my email inquiring about the return process (sent days before going to the store), I don't think it would have gone much better. read more

On vacation in NYC and was going to buy some gifts for friends back home from here. We were carefully looking with my 5 yo when he wanted to look more closely at an item (we were ready to stop any touching). The guy at the counter proceeded to yell at him "AHN AHN AHN AHN!!!" with a stern face seemingly ready to kill us. It was scaring our son, sure enough we left the store, and my son had beads of tears rolling down his face. It made him feel like he did something wrong when he did nothing wrong at all. Shop somewhere else. I ordered a glass bong a week ago and started wondering where it was. I tracked it and it was still at the ship site even though USPS had tracking. There is no customer service phone help as the place I called in NY said he couldn't help and couldn't provide a better number. I wrote them yesterday and said "FedEx it today or cancel my order". No response, of course. I went to the chat box online. He said they would expedite shipping. I said if they can't ship it today, forget it. He said he'd e-mail me, either way...nothing. Their display of Keith Haring goods drew me in, otherwise I'd have no need to shop here. The goods are nicely displayed, and at first I didn't know this was a pipe/smoking shop. The Keith Haring merchandise dominated the front of the store, clothing and pipe accessories with books and some home accessories in back. My spouse and I browsed for a fair amount of time. I was never asked if I needed help. My spouse liked the quality and type of goods there but didn't buy anything. read more

One of a kind NYC destination store. The highest quality vaporizers all in one place with educated helpful staff. There is also a really good selection of high end glass like their eponymous brand. Though I don't use pax anymore, their display and custom colors almost drew me back. There are also many other unique lifestyle products that were new to me. I'll be coming here to check out and buy the newest products to market in the nicest environment to do so. This is not your average smokeshop. read more

Should be called "lower standards" I've been a heavy smoker for years and I was excited to see a high end smoke shop rather than the usual ny smoke shop often run by a pushy salesman with a thick middle eastern accent selling cheap Chinese glass, which is the case with many ny smoke shops. However, this stores charms lie only with its "high end" appearance. I have visited this store several times only to be disappointed, not only do they sell very little actual glass, many of the things there are downright stupid. You may ask yourself, what kind of person would buy a 150$ juul case or a 3000$ wooden stash box. Well you'd be right in assuming not that many as almost nobody there ever seems to be buying anything aside from things like pax's and other items you can get at any other smoke shop. I understand that this store goes for quality over quantity, but the problem is that they lack so much quantity that you probably won't find anything you want there. Surprisingly the store sells little to no actual glass, and as for high end brands like roor and illadelph they don't have them, in fact they don't have any glass besides a few of their own pieces which are very basic, some grav spoon pipes and then a very very small amount of other insane glass pieces so expensive and absurd looking that nobody would ever actually buy them. It's ironic that some seedy looking smoke shops in nyc actually sell the same stuff as higher standards while also being official retailers of high end brands like roor and having way more selection. I actually bought the cleaning kit here as it's the only good deal in the store and I sat at the counter for several minutes while the employees stood around talking. Not to mention that they are usually pretty pretentious and just jerks in general if you ask them any question about anything, especially the price of something. All in all this place has tried to redefine the New York City smoke shop but has in turn made the entire experience of going to a smoke shop significantly worse, I'd rather stick with my boy Fahim at the shop by my house. Yeah they don't have any 900$ custom volcano vaporizers but at least they have an actual selection and the employees won't look down on you. If I could I'd give this zero stars! Horrible Horrible Horrible!!! Was a first time customer and am extremely frustrated with the lack of communication I have received. After placing an order now 3 weeks ago it has yet to be shipped! The one and only response I've got was to explain to me that my shipment has not gone out due to some free pipe cleaners that they wanted to include in my order being out of stock.... I've reached out to the company via email, phone, and their live chat feature multiple times which all seem to be down. I now have 3 unanswered claim reports and just want a refund. Can't believe they had what I wanted. There were unfortunately malfunctions to the device I purchased, however when I went back with the hopes of getting an exchange or at least my money back, Higher Standards offered a full exchange! I was really relieved since I wanted this specific item for awhile now, also the staff were very helpful and friendly throughout this quick process.
