There are a lot of words in the Dutch Window Cleaners response. Most of it is incidental garbage or…read moreoutright mistatements that confuse rather than clarify the core problem. I will summarize the important points here so you can understand the issue in 60 seconds or less. I gave Chas a scope of work I wanted done and he emailed me a quote of $4323.50. I thanked him by email and said "At these prices I think I owe it to myself to get a competitive quote or two." I thought that would take me about one week to do. I assured him I would contact him with my decision one way or the other and I would not leave him hanging. This was his email response: "People living in multi-million dollar homes and lowball those who don't even own a house, it tells me you have no compassion or loyalty to help people become successful." Wow. I called him out on his unnecessary insults regarding my "compassion and loyalty" and this was his reply: "Well Robert, I'm sorry you feel this way just because someone tells you the way it is. Remember I am born/raised Dutch, and we don't mess around." Wow once again! If his responses appeal to you and trigger a desire to work with him, then Chas is the only man for you. It will be hard to find anyone who will insult you better than Chas Smit, the Dutch window washer who doesn't mess around. Update: On 5/26/2026 I received a competitive quote for the same scope of work I requested of Chas Smit. It was for $2400 from ClearviewSanLuisObispo.com. Not only did it save me almost $2000 from the Durtchman's quote, but it was delivered with great communication and excellent customer service. Almost as important, there was no drama or insults from Clearview. I look forward to working with them.

Initial Appointment - Chas showed up next day as promised and gave me a quote that evening. The quote was extensive with several options for deck cleaning, simple window washing, and a high-end window cleaning that included screens and detailing frames and sills. He was quite talkative and a bit outspoken. I like dealing with an owner/operator as opposed to a sales professional. Chas is a little rough around the edges, but I could tell he would take a professional approach based on our conversation and decided to give him a try. I went with his "Dutch Experience" but excluded the deck cleaning. Work Quality - As a commercial cleaning contractor I appreciate the professional job he and his helper did. The process used was technically correct, and the results were excellent. Again, Chas was a little outspoken during his conversation with my wife, but she has tough skin and is not easily offended. Price - I've had other window washing contractors, and Chas is certainly on the high end of the pricing spectrum. Current labor costs, workers comp, and liability insurance are much higher now than in the past, so I understand the pressure to adjust pricing accordingly. Still, I feel the price-point wasn't completely justified. Would I Use Chas Again? - Likely.

Yelp had some good reviews, but we turned for advice to a friend we trust. she suggested All Valley Solar and Window Cleaning. We spoke with Jesse, the owner, who visited and gave us an estimate of $200 for the exterior windows/screens and $180 for the solar panels. Five days later, Jesse and an assistant arrived for the job. The assistant...a guy in his 20s...started on the windows and screens while Jesse handled panels on the roof. After finishing the panels, Jesse helped with the other guy...then carefully wiped the trim around the windows and doors. They moved all the outdoor furniture before starting and returned it to the proper place when done. Everything took about 3 hours which was probably a bit longer than usual since I'm sure they wanted to impress a first time customer. We're now on a schedule for Jesse and a helper to come every 4 months...with work on the exterior windows once or twice a year.

The price was also amazingy fair, and they stuck with their initial invoice. We live in Los Osos and have a 2 story home with LOTS of windows, some of them in a high tower room with windows that hadn't been washed in over a decade, either inside or out...because previous window washer companies refused to get up to the skylights on the roof stating that we have a supposedly slippery tile roof and they downright refused to do it. This crew scrambled all over that roof with when washing those high windows with nary a worry. Not only that, but we hired them to pressure wash our driveway, concrete walkways surrounding the house, and 2 second-story balconies, all of which were exceedingly dingy and dirty looking. They moved heavy planters inside and out to get to the dirtiest areas. Their equipment was very up to date and they were experts in their use. We couldn't believe how much light pored inside and out after they had finished, nor that it took only about 6 hours to complete the entire project. We will only hire Junior's from now on and, we highly suggest you do, too.
