However, after my early morning drive to view this beauty of a bridge I find myself wanting to share the experience right now! Bergstresser covered bridge is located in a lovely residential area along a bike path/walking trail. The bridge is strong, well preserved and could easily handle car traffic if it were allowed. The wooden floors are in great condition which was probably aided by the asphalt that once covered the floor surface. Remnants of the asphalt are still visible. The truss system is unlike any I've seen before using triple lattice crossbeams as support. The setting in which this bridge has been placed is attractive. Currently Ohio is experiencing record rains, but the results are lush green landscapes. Despite the heavy rains we experienced yesterday, the river flowing below the bridge was very calm and serene. I followed the trail to a beautifully landscaped park area with a willow tree, benches and a memorial stone. Throughout the area are loads of Blue Spruce trees! I forgot how much I love Spruce trees and this trip has inspired me to use them more in my landscapes designs. BRIDGE FACTS Year Built: 1887 Builder: Columbus Bridge Company Length: 134 feet Restored: 1991 Truss type: Partridge Location: Little Walnut Creek in Franklin County @ Kramer's Ford The Historical Marker reads as follows: In March, 1887, the Franklin County Commissioners announced the building of a bridge in Madison Township over Little Walnut Creek at Kramer's Ford. Area citizens had petitioned for a bridge to transport agricultural products to the canal and railroad. Michael Corbett of Groveport contracted to construct the abutments and the Columbus Bridge Company built the covered bridge for $2,690.00. Reuban L. Partridge, company vice president, supervised the building, using his patented truss system consisting of double and triple truss members constructed of pine and oak. In the 1930's the road traveling over the bridge became State Route 674 and in the 1950s the road was redirected to bypass the covered bridge. In 1990, the county contracted with Abba Lichtenstein & Associates to evaluate the condition of the bridge. The W.J. Seidensticker Company repaired and restored the Bergstresser bridge using original and new materials. This, the last covered bridge in Franklin County, was rededicated September 1, 1991. At this time the ownership of the bridge was transferred to the Village of Canal Winchester. FINAL THOUGHTS This bridge was named after Daniel Bergstresser and Samuel Dietz who helped in the successful petitioning of the county commissioners board in the late 1800's for a formal roadway/river crossing for use by local farmers & businesses. Once an important part of the local economy it now stands as a reminder of days long passed and as the last remaining bridge in Franklin County, Ohio. As a personal note to the residents of the area surrounding the bridge: I'd like to commend you on how well maintained your homes appear. I am a landscape/hardscape designer and I felt inspired by some of the landscapes I saw on nearby homes. I truly felt the pride of ownership and I just wanted to say keep up the great work.

Went for our first movie night to visit the abbey for the first time. It was fun!…read more I love that this beautiful bit of history is being lovingly restored and the volunteers work really hard and do a great job. It was easy to park and the grounds are well-kept. Brand new gravel driveway is great! The abbey itself is pretty but simple and there's not much to see inside. The stained glass windows are gorgeous and I love that they are all being restored, too. The movie was great! The lawn wasn't soggy, which I appreciated. We wore bug spray but it wasn't too mosquito-y which was a big win. Loved the food carts! There was also a cash bar that the volunteers ran. Didn't loves: the sound was unnecessarily loud. Didn't like the people smoking cigarettes while watching the movie.

Having been to the Green Lawn Cemetery several times for public events, we decided to attend one of…read morethe movie nights at the Green Lawn Abbey. It was a great event on a nice evening, and it was well attended. We sat on the lawn at the foot of the hill in front of the Abbey where the screen was set up, and a food truck was available for those who wanted food. I'll definitely go back for one of these events if the weather is pleasant enough to do so. The Abbey -- a mausoleum, not an actual abbey with nuns or monks -- is a nice building that obviously needs a bit of upkeep. The evening movies are an attempt to make money for just that purpose. Apparently, some wealthy families, such as the J.C. Penney family, have crypts in the abbey, though one would never know unless told. All the crypts look alike, so this one shows that death pretty much makes everyone equal -- at least if you have enough money for a crypt in the Green Lawn Abbey. One thing that I did not like about the abbey is that it seemed to be full of random stuff stacked up in front of the tombs -- a wooden bed headboard and footboard, a weight lifting bench, broken down chairs and ladders, and an array of other items that, in my opinion, have no real place in a mausoleum. It just seemed somewhat disrespectful for the type of place that it is. I guess the dead who populate the walls of the abbey don't actually know it, but I just didn't like it that things were just stacked up next to the tombs as if they were shelves in a garage. We heard that the organization charged with upkeep is in the midst of a fundraiser to replace stained-glass windows that have broken or disappeared. I hope they make up the money that they need because the building will be much nicer with the original window openings redecorated as they should be.

Those of a certain age may recall the Lazarus department store, which began back in the mid-1800s…read morebefore its eventual merger with Macy's, ending the Lazarus name, which now lingers in regard to this historic building downtown. This particular location closed in the early 2000s, was renovated and restored, then rented out to a variety of tenants, including offices, arts organizations, restaurants, and retail spaces. Its history is now reflected through a nice display, "Lazarus Remembered: A Familiar Friend"/"Lazarus Recycled: Looking to the Future" that is easily accessible to the public. Another fabulous feature is the gorgeous annual holiday display. A huge decorated tree takes center stage in the galeria (access from Town Street side) with a variety of festive decorations. Many of the tenants get in on the celebration, with this year's windows display at the OSU Urban Art Space celebrating Lazarus. The Center for Architecture and Design decorates their windows with their annual "The Orange Line" display, which features a cityscape and holiday train. It's fascinating to see what the architects and designers come up with! The displays are featured on both the High Street and Town Street sides of this massive building, so it's worth a little bit of walking to take it all in. Metered street parking is available nearby.

This used to be an important and fancy department store in the center of the city. However, there is no museum or official tour. And unfortunately I found that during the weekend and in the evenings everything is pretty much shut down, so I didn't even have a chance to explore inside.

Of all of the pieces and public art in the short north community of Columbia Ohio I think this may be my family and I favorite live. Large metal pieces that features a boy on crutches and what appears to be a box of his belongings strapped to his back. Overall a very vivid and descriptive piece of public art that will Stick out as memorable in an area filled with public art at pretty much every head turn. Job well done by the artist on this piece of public art!

Dublin, Ohio, has a claim to fame: It has the longest, single tower S-shaped suspension bridge in…read morethe world! The Dublin Link connects the Dublin historic district to Bridge Park, which is an up-and-coming area with lots of restaurants, a weekly farmers market and entertainment. It's a pretty impressive bridge, as far as suspended walkways go. From the middle of the bridge, you can get a great view of the Scioto River on either side. It opened to the public in 2020, so it's relatively new. This pedestrian bridge is incredibly wide, and you'll see lots of walkers and runners, and also bicyclers going across it. The areas on either end of the bridge have little places to sit and hang out, especially the side of the bridge that ends/begins at Bridge Park. If you visit Dublin, you definitely have to take a stroll across this bridge.

Life Force is a sculpture located outside of the Westerville Community Center. It is made of…read morestainless steel and was designed by Cobert C. Collins. It consists of several flowing swoops and points, all coming together to look like they are moving forward. The plaque at the base indicates that the artist was inspired by life, specifically his son's. It's a neat piece and fits well with its location at the community center and across from the sports complex, as great places to celebrate some of what life can do.

This is open Friday-Sunday, 1-4. We happened by on a Saturday and stopped in. You can go in the front, or through a connecting door from Vernacular, the clothing store next door. Well organized space with many artifacts, detailed boards with explanations of aspects of Dublin history, and more. A room in back for meetings or events. Friendly, helpful staff. Well worth a visit if you are nearby, or a detour if you are at all into history.

The dublin historical society is a tad beneath what i'd expect it to be, however there are some…read morereally neat qualities to it. my particular favorite is the Coffman Homestead, which is a original 1960s middle class home. It's actually furnished with all original things, and the barn itself is filled with tools from the period. I am a personal fan of hte decor of the age, and am an artist, so I appreciate being able to see the look of these things in person, it makes it so much more possible to understand and recreate alternative histories in things like comics. I tend to judge places like these on their gift shops a bit. I think that a place's gift shop tells a lot about the aim of it. I can appreciate that this place seems to be more dedicated to history than making revenue, but I think that it could really rearrange itself to me more publicly forward.

This uniquely shaped sculpture is also unique tot eh sculpture garden as it is the only non metallic silver metal piece in the garden. This coral looking piece has a bronze color to it instead. Overall a real cool garden and a fun public art piece for the short north community of Columbus that feature's all sorts of public art pieces.
