Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway - Hot Dog with Onions

Having never been here before, and not having much experience with racing at a local level, I did not know a lot of what to expect. But overall, it was a pleasant experience that was enjoyable for me, and would also be for people of many different ages. There is parking in the grass right when you pull into the Motor Speedway. It is very close to the entrance, and a flat walk. We purchased general admission tickets at the gate upon arrival. For this race, tickets were $16 per person. There were 5 races scheduled, along with the hot laps beforehand. There was not a line, and we walked right up to the ticket counter. It could have been because of the weather, but it was quick and easy to buy admission and enter. You were given a ticket stub, and as long as you have it on you, you can go back to your car and reenter. I had to do this once and the security at the entrance was nice about letting me back in. They let you bring your own food and drink inside. There are concessions for purchase, but it is a nice option to have if you want to have something other than typical snack bar foods and drinks. The entrance is behind the grandstands, and you have to walk underneath them to get into the main areas of the venue. There are permanent restrooms in the building that is right in front of you upon entering. This is the same building that houses the concessions. Once you are through the building and under the bleachers, you will see the area where they sell merchandise, and right next door are the concessions. They had typical foods of what would be expected somewhere like this, as well as some daily specials. Most of the food was self-service, meaning it was set up almost as a grab and go, with a cashier at the end of the line. Due to the weather that day, there were not a ton of spectators, but I imagine on a busy day this would expedite waiting times for food. We got a Hot Chocolate and a Hot Dog to snack on. I thought the food was average, and the prices were a little high for what was offered for some of the items. The staff in the concession stand were very kind and helpful, and we enjoyed conversing with them. After getting our food, we made our way to the bleachers. There are plenty of seats, and since there was a smaller crowd there was a ton of room to spread out. I do not believe there was any assigned seating for this section, so we just sat where we wanted to. The bleachers are old and wooden, so I would recommend either bringing some blankets, cushions, or those seat backs to make it more comfortable. We enjoyed getting to watch all the races. They have a Victory Lane for the winners, and get them on the mic for a few minutes following the race. The "pit row" is in the middle of the track, so you can see everything going on. They kept it moving pretty well and had some engaging commentary over the PA system. I had a very positive first experience at the Motor Speedway. If you are looking for something that is family friendly, affordable, and fun to do I would recommend a night watching the races going on!

They had plenty of cars to show, several different races took place, and a concession stand with food and beer available. The grandstand seating was ok if you were thoughtful enough to bring seats or a blanket to sit on. The wooden bleachers aren't the most comfortable on their own. The food selection was what you'd expect from a venue like this - hot dogs, hamburgers, meatball subs, fries, mozzarella sticks, etc. The fries were crispy and so were the chicken tenders. They raffled off several baskets and 12pks of alcohol, of which my bf's mom won 2 and a basket. We stayed for about 3 hours and headed out just before the rest of the crowd dispersed. Parking is on the grass, but there's a ton available.

Truly an amazing experience for any car and need for speed demons out there at all levels…read more I thought the day was great, the staff, the management and all were superb. Nervous at first trying to keep up in the training class, but once in the car all was well. I had one car in front of me that would not listen, but I did get a few extra laps to make up for that. My experience was great. I drove it like I stole it. I think some folks expectations are not realistic. There where two guys who should not have thought about even getting in the car. I guess that is why they sell the insurance. I am a bigger guy, 6'-4" 280 lbs and had no issues getting in and out of the car. I can drive a stick, so that was not an issue for me. But you only have to shift once, so for the non-stick people, it is very easy. I would highly recommend.

This is not an experience I can recommend at all…read more Right off the bat, we're told in the information packet not to be late because the drivers' meeting WILL START ON TIME (emphasis theirs). Ours started almost an hour late. For the first 30 minutes, no one on the staff seemed to even notice that the instructor hadn't showed up. Finally we were told (after one gentleman actually had to go find someone for an explanation) that he'd be with us in 5 minutes. 15 minutes later, the instructor showed up with a story about how most of the crew failed to show up for work and he had to call in his family to come and assist, and that someone had put diesel fuel in all the cars so they were fixing that mistake. I was not filled with confidence. Not being someone with any racing experience, I was a little comforted when he assured us that our only goal was to have fun. Unfortunately, the man on the radio when you're actually racing didn't share that view and really just likes to yell at you for driving too slowly. Also, despite going on and on in the promotional materials about how this is a real racing experience and you can pass at any time, that's not true at all. You're only allowed to pass at certain places on the track and only when the radio man tells you to. Basically, you just do what you're told. It wasn't any fun at all. Also, the cars are real clunkers. I wasn't expecting shiny new TV-ready cars, but these didn't even feel safe and just belched smoke.

I love everything about drag racing. The cars, the smell, the noise, EVERYTHING. In the summer I…read moretry to go as much as possible to the track (Either here or one in OH), but it has been hard with a busy schedule. I have only been to a handful of tracks, since really how many tracks are in the area? Not many! PRP is a good track and they are making more and more improvements to it. Compared to other tracks they actually have pretty good food. An indoor concession stand is super nice and they also have a covered picnic area to eat your food in. They also have a little store on the opposite side of the track where you can buy shirts, pictures, ect. There are two sides to park at, one sits on the hill so you are overlooking the track. I love that, its super cool to watch the cars race from there. The other is more ground level and is usually where my family will park. They added a new entrance I believe last year since they have added a dirt track also. This entrance will lead right to the flat side parking. The other (Old entrance) will bring you to the starting line or to the hillside. Check out their event calendar as they do have some really fun stuff through the year. Night of Fire is a must see! They are an IHRA track so they do have some neat IHRA events also. Its a great time for kids and the entire family. If you are there to race or just to watch, it will be awesome!! Overall this track is good and will forever be a happy place for me. Ive made many memories there and will for long in the future!
