I like that they're attentive to the kids, teach them to be disciplined, and teach them other important values. They don't play with nonsense, but will be patient with kids that aren't listening and talk to them in a caring but firm manner. I love the way they put on belt testing for the kids. It was such a cool thing to see. My kids love it and I love seeing my kids learning something that they enjoy with instructors that have a true passion for what they teach.

He teaches my "cane-fu" class, which is more like practical self-defense for older people (who might happen to have a cane handy.) He and his son and another sensei teach my daughter's kenpo class, where they do learn kata and forms, but they always make sure you know what the moves are a response to. In fact, that's Stan's first question almost every time: "why are you doing this?" Hard to believe this quality of martial arts instruction exists in small-town Galt.

I remember one day, trying to do a form while he distracted our eyes with a water hose...haha. He didn't do that often but he was always trying to find new ways to mix things up for us. I really appreciated how different it was compared to the usual karate place, where you can see yourself doing forms in the mirrored walls, he emphasized body control- knowing where your foot is(without looking) so that you don't screw up the technique for example. I don't know how his classes are currently, but I think he provided great real world tactical self defense back then and have no doubts that he's still a great teacher. I wish I had stuck with it longer than I did.

I know for a fact that Tony has trained with plenty of MMA fighters, he has sent a few to professional rings. One in particular I recall is Catharine Linderman, whom became a phenomenal fighter. I only do know that Tony Nunez was a golden globe champion in the 80's.

KICKBOXING REVIEW UPDATE…read more Classes are officially every day except Sunday. They opened up a separate building just for kickboxing and Krav. It's still 45 minutes of non stop exercises to make me sweat out stress and water. The new location feels a lot more spacious but more and more people are joining the class causing some people to share bags. The instructors are awesome and motivating!!!! Every class is different so it doesn't feel boring each time. I can still have that beer because I know I'll work it out in kickboxing.
