It's been 3 years and they have certainly upgraded their location and products! Previously, it was a run down shack in Dallas, but now it's a huge store in Arlington right off the highway. Typical items sold here as with any other Asian supermarket. Cost still seems a little higher but it's worth it for the variety and space. I'd do crabs, lobsters, seafood varieties since they do clean your fish for you here but will have to do deep clean when you get them home. You do get all your Asian vegetables and herbs but not poultries or meat here. They have the largest variety of exotic fruits which is a yes. It's a large supermarket for Vietnamese standard. Vegetables are relatively fresh, fruits selection were old, especially grapes and oranges. Fish market has many options. Overall not bad and would return but....After spending more than $300 on grocery, I asked my cashier to add an ice bag to the tab, which he did, no problem. On my way to get the ice, I took a shopping plastic bag from one of their carousel (at an empty lane) to get the ice. I was yelled at by a another woman cashier that I can't take a plastic bag on my own. I'll have to go to my original cashier and ask for a bag. This is absolutely ridiculous and this woman is an idiot beyond any means. Won't return until they update their customer appreciation and friendliness. read more

Me and my family go to the Asian market all the time for fresh seafood and meat. We went to this place for the first time and purchased shrimp, pork, chicken quarters, frozen longganisa and frozen Chinese sausage. All the meat was spoiled. The shrimp smelled bad...and the frozen meat was packed in 2017!!!! We just ended up throwing away all of it because it couldn't be trusted. I literally can not believe they just keep meats lying around past expiration but I guess that's my bad too for not checking before I bought it. I won't be coming again though....smh read more

If you need to purchase anything related to Asian cuisine then Hiep Thai is the place you need to go to buy it. One of my favorite reasons to visit here is the diversity of the products. You have lots of Thai, Korean and Vietnamese ingredients. Be it from sesame seed oils to fancy noodles of all shapes Hiep Thai has it. A fun thing to do here is to go through the snack and drink isles and to randomly purchase whatever they have. Last time I went I bought some shrimp fries and coconut water that proved to be very different and tasty. Also the bakery/restaurant they have here is amazing. I strongly suggest you order the house special or meatball sandwich. If you want fresh seafood then head to the back for live crabs and lobsters. The fish I have seen here seem very fresh and do not stink which is always a plus for any grocery store. My only real complaints are that at times the isles seem a bit cluttered and or dirty and sometimes items you purchased might be expired. (Always read the labels people!) they are missing one thing and that is the Japanese imported Boss coffee, which I can find elsewhere, but it would be easier if they had it here for my shopping needs. Lastly the cashiers are very nice and seem to have everything memorized for their veggies. So if you want practically anything Asian for a meal, don't go to Kroger, Tom Thumb or Central Market, come to Hiep Thai instead. read more

There are several different Asian supermarkets and grocery stores in the Arlington/Grand Prairie area but this is my parents' favorite grocery store to do their grocery shopping at for their Vietnamese cooking... and trust me, my mama can break it down in the kitchen with some authentic Vietnamese dishes. I came here one Sunday afternoon and I could just see for myself how fresh the herbs were. They were so bright green with little blemishes. There was even an employee individually wrapping papayas. When any of their produce starts to age and grow "bad", they cherry pick them, bag them, and sell them for a discount. They have their own bakery as well. I ordered a pork bun but unfortunately it wasn't ready at the moment. Lady told us to come back in 10 minutes which was fine with me - that just means it's that fresh! They're not pre-wrapped in saran wrap either - they pack it to go in a small styrofoam box. So why 4 stars and not 5? I just had the pork bun for lunch and sadly, I found it too bland. They should've added a bit more salt or fish sauce to the meat. I probably won't be buying anymore pork buns from here but I will definitely come back for their fresh produce. read more

I need to be doing work but don't feel like it so instead, I'll procrastinate by writing a review. I had such a cool experience here I wanted to write my review in the parking lot! I often visit the Dollar Tree in the plaza next to Hiep Thai, and always see this grocery store. I'd always wondered what I'd find inside, but never ventured in. I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to stop by, but I'm also hugging myself because I'm so glad I finally did. I came with the intention of purchasing a few inexpensive items for my foodie penpal. I don't even know where to begin. This place is HUGE!! The selection is so amazing. There are WHOLE aisles dedicated to rice or noodles or sauces and seasonings. There's an AWESOME clearance section where things are priced 2 for $.99. I saw two packets of Vietnamese dumpling flour there, teas, noodles, and a ton of other stuff. I fell in love with the household tools aisle, which had a gazillion little dipping sauce bowls, chopsticks, soup spoons, ladles, etc. I'll be back to purchase a bunch! Durable plastic chopsticks can be found here too, for $1.99 and they are sold in solid colors. I got a chance to browse the produce. Things you wouldn't imagine finding here can be found at Hiep Thai, like durian and rambutan and SEVERAL different kinds of mint leaves! Who knew! I felt like a traveler in a brand new place, just taking it all in. I didn't get a chance to check out the seafood or meat aisles. When in one of the aisles closest to the seafood I did get a very strong whiff of fish, which I thought wasn't great but I can't really say much more than that since I didn't have a good look through it. I scored a can of coconut milk for $1.09 which was thrilling, lol. I loved that this shop attracts everyone. I wasn't the only non-Asian in the store, and that made me so happy that not only does this store cater to Asian foods of all ethnicity, but that it also is welcome to people of all kinds. Just visited from Oklahoma with 16 Asian people total. My mother in law asked for the pricing of a wooden folding table but then changed her mind because the cashier lady didn't swap it out for a non-defective one. The cashier lady got mad and the old black security man went up to her to grab the table. She whispered something to him and he came up to us to tell us that although we were paying for separate Sriracha, the boss lady said she gonna let it slide (only 2 per family per day is the rule). My husband then said they can check our ID's. Old man said don't matter we all together. This is racial profiling. To assume we are all family. We didn't even buy the Sriracha. She could have waited to say it to the other couples behind us who did buy it but said it to us because she was mad at mom. We bought a lot of fruits like rambutan, mangosteen, jackfruit, longans, etc here but we're not going back ever again. As a business, please have some understanding that if a customer doesn't want something, you have no right to force them to buy or like your products. Ok, this store does offer some basic stuff that you can find at a asian store. Customer service? Hell to the NO. Very rude staff and awful attitude. Bought a whole chicken one time, when I opened the bag after I got home, I literally vomited. The smell is so bad and obviously it has gone bad for decades. Took it back to the store. Organization is lacking in that common stuff is strewn about the store so you'll find yourself browsing all of the isles - and that necessarily isn't a bad thing. It's a very fun place to browse. Customer service is rough due to language barriers so your best bet may be to ask other customers, if you are looking for something in-particular. Produce is very fresh and reasonable. I picked up some beautiful Honeycrisp apples for 1.89/lb. Most of the typical box-stores in the area (Kroger et.al) have them for 2.69+ per lb. I purchased 6 lbs of live clams for the first time. I don't know how long these clams had been soaked in the same water, but when I brought it home I noticed the pungent smell. I scrub and cleaned them with various methods toothbrush, mint, ginger. which lessen the smell. However, when I cooked them, the heat made them smell worse even with wine, lemon grass, basil and chili. The final product was very disappointing. Some were chewy, some were slimy and looked rotted, but they all smelled bad so they were all inedible. I will never buy live clams at Hiep Thai. read more

After searching for a well-stocked, clean asian market by myself and not encountering anything worthwhile, I turned to Yelp for some guidance. Hiep Thai market in Arlington is a remarkably large supermarket (perhaps not at big as Super H Mart in Carrollton, but certainly well stocked. Fish is reasonably fresh (although minus one star for the poor shellfish conditions...3.99 per pound for crawfish is a good price, but when 70-80% are dead and...melting, it puts you off even trying to pick up the feebly-moving individuals. Otherwise the vegetables are fresh for the most part, and the dry-foods are plentiful. Just be aware of what you are buying and take a good look at each packet to make sure the bag isn't expired (minus another point for a bag of oats filled with bugs). So...yes, Hiep Thai market has great veggies and canned foods/sauces. Just be cautious when buying grains/rice and seafood. My vote is still for Super H Mart. read more

This is the place to go for Asian ingredients. This is the cleanest and well kept of all the Asian markets I have been to. Lots of great produce and seafood. Extensive selection of items for Vietnamese, Thai, Korean and other cuisines. Checkout workers speak English. For all things Asian, my mom is the perfect gauge. If she likes an Asian supermarket, restaurant, etc. then I know it's good. This supermarket is no different. I was first introduced to this place by her and I am a continued customer. I feel like this is one of the newer Asian markets or maybe it's very well maintained that makes me believe it's newer but regardless you will be pleased with the condition of the store. The aisles and shelves are always kept neat and clean which I think every shopper can appreciate. The produce selection is good and I don't find myself weeding through fruits/veggies that are going bad. Also there are hardly any of those annoying fruit flies flying around. The only product they are missing that would be great if they carried is the larger soy sauce containers. They have the small ones but when you use soy sauce frequently in cooking it's makes much more sense to buy a larger one which they don't have here. The stores is a bit smaller than Asian markets I am used to but it is a good place to stop by if I am in the area and unlike most Asian establishments the staff is not rude or dismissive (sorry if you're offended by this but just speaking my personal observations). There are two food places inside. One being a food counter that takes cash only which I've never tried. The other which is setup like a restaurant that I did not like at all. From all kinds of Vegetables to Fresh Meat, Fresh Seafood and variety of Asian Grocery items from different part of Asia. This place is clean and they have a good selection of Asian goods. It is well organized and the prices are reasonable. You get more discount if you buy by the bulk or box. On the other side of store are small restaurants and there I buy my Taho or soft soy. I make my own sugar with water because I don't like theirs which has ginger.
