We both had the thick cut New York strip, with grilled asparagus and roasted baby red potatoes. I'm going to place my meal here in the top five best meals I have ever had. Everything was cooked perfectly. But the steak, that was hands down the best part; high quality cut of meat that lived up to the thick cut menu description, seasoned and cooked perfectly with almost no fat. The steak came with caramelized sautéed mushrooms and onions that were a wonderful compliment. The asparagus was nicely grilled with great flavor and a good crunch, something that I loved because I hate mushy over cooked asparagus. The baby red potatoes were also perfectly cooked and seasoned. I have an extremely high appreciation for the culinary industry and the art that goes in to quality food, and the meal I had here today clearly presented the strong passion of the Chef who prepared it. The Rome/Nekoosa area just 40 miles North of the Dells is getting worldwide acclaim as a golf destination. Even the local airport has had to lengthen runways and increase fuel storage to accommodate the increasing number of private jets flying in. Sand Valley is the biggest draw with currently 5 courses on site and ever expanding. If you have a few million dollars casually lying around there are homesites available at Sand Valley. There is also Northern Bay, The Ridges, Bullseye and more within a short ride. When visiting and playing the courses be kind to your fellow golfers and follow the rules of the course you're playing on. Some may require replacing the divot you hit out that may have traveled further than your golf ball, others require not replacing the divot but sprinkling the provided grass seed into the newly minted divot. One final tip, please use the provided restrooms located on the courses. Some of us live on the courses and don't enjoy the view of golfers walking into the woods, relieving themselves and ultimately showing off their shortcomings.

The golf courses are fabulous and, for lack of a better word, big. Sand Valley is the signature and is challenging, Mammoth is a bit more kind to an average golfer. The Commons is a twelve hole course and probably the easiest of the group; Sedge Valley is a par 68, also pretty forgiving. There's also 17 holes of par 3 (mostly chip/putt) that is there for fun; many folks play in bare feet. Lido is the one that most normal people can't get on...rumored to be, like Sand Valley, a real challenge. The golf is terrific. The client service -- everywhere we turned --- was also outstanding, from caddies, to starters, to rangers, to servers...clearly a client service culture. The are on-course food/bev "gimmicks" -- one dollar brats, one dollar Italian beefs, etc. The ice cream sandwich is celebrated (ad made in Iowa!). The drinks are very reasonably priced; water is complimentary. Unimpressed by the food and bev at the restaurants -- pretty predictable fare; I'd have hoped there would be some form of fine or at least finER dining available. Only so many burgers and chicken sandwiches and cheese curds and chicken wings one can have. Also had a DREADFUL service challenge at their pizza place at the Sedge Valley course -- took forever to get our apps and entrees...two of us ended up not even eating ours because we were out of time. Two points of bone disappointment. The first --- temporary -- is that the practice facility is massively too small for this size and quality of resort. I gather that's being addressed and that a new, large facility should open soon. The second came when our group went to shower after 18 holes in sweltering heat. The locker room and showers at the main lodge are embarrassingly small, not well kept up, and otherwise unworthy of a facility of this caliber and price point. Several hundred dollars for a round was ok --- but I'd have hoped for something a lot better than what was basically a YMCA gym for a place to clean up.
