Was in town for a few days staying at a nearby hotel and this was close so I ended up their for dinner 2 nights in a row. This visit and service was absolutely excellent and the food was AMAZING! I HIGHLY recommend getting a tavern burger with either the house chips or cole slaw. When we arrived, I was worried we might be too late but, not at all! We were promptly greeted and seated eith a smile from the hostess and we met our server within 3 minutes. Sierra I, if I remember correctly, is a very kind and attentive server. She was there before we needed anything and also brought us a wonderful sweet potato treat after our meal. However, our meal was excellent! We both had tavern burgers and honestly, they're very tasty and have a rich flavor. The burgers come cooked to perfection and well dressed with the best lettus, tomatoes, pickles, and melted cheese. To be honest, this isnt the best grilled cheeseburger in Charlotte but it's very good and much better than my last review. I have been here before but this visit truly shows that restaurants can get even better with time! We loved it and this visit made such a great impression on us that we will return! The tacos were cold ant the shrimp were a frozen pre cooked imported shrimp that had no flavor and were very chewy. The salsa was basically tomato sauce with no peppers. The ribs came out as individual ribs. Pre cooked and there were 4 of them for $19.99 with a side. We had wings with a side of celery. I come to this location multiple times a week and the service is hit or miss. It seems the kitchen gets super behind whether the dining room is busy or not. I enjoy 75 cent wing night on Wednesdays. My favorite sauce is their bee sting but I usually ask for extra bee sting because their wings aren't very saucy. They have great homemade ranch for dipping. I also enjoy their pretzel bites, tavern salad, grilled chicken sandwich, and cheese sticks. They have some great servers like Alex, JB, and Chloe who are very attentive and friendly. I'd honestly say their is only one bad server and as much as I want to mention her name I won't. Lots of TVS and large screens so it's a perfect place to watch a game. But if you like your tequilas, they do have a decent selection. We came here as it was close by and it was highly recommended by our friends. I had the wings and my wife had a burger. The service was great Jordan was very attentive and answered all our question. My only reason for a 4 star is I ordered my wings charred and they were way too burnt on one side like BURNT. Other than that our experience was really great. Our waitress Jordan took care of us all! The food came out exactly how we ordered. The pretzel bites were soft and delicious. They come with a side of cheese however it's best for double dipping as the original shell is so buttery the cheese won't stick to it. We also recommend asking for a side of regular mustard. Chefs kiss!! I ordered my wings half honey bee half lemon pepper. The honey bee were burnt due to too much grill time but they were enjoyable. Next time I might just order them regular style. This is my first time visiting this place. This is the second sports bar that I had visited over the years after visiting one in Ohio. We went as a group from the company, our group count goes to 10 people. They had long surf board table that can fit more than 10+ people and u have got screens all around running games, news and some funny videos channel. They have also got a big projector to be used during the game season With regards to the service our waiters were helpful and prompt. But with regards to the service time of getting the food order from u and actually delivering the food, I can say their time is close to 6 on the scale of 10. I guess it depends on the people in the group and their order. But overall the bar was not much crowded, I can say it was an average crowding. I guess if u go as a small group their service would be faster i guess. Now the food. I ordered the Oregon cedar salmon. I have never tasted it anywhere so I wasn't in any expectation. The presentation was top notch and the taste of the salmon was really good. Overall the whole plate was really fulfilling. Decided to give Hickory Tavern another shot as we wanted to check out "Karaoke Night" this past Saturday, but unfortunately we were left singing the blues as the night was nothing short of a huge disappointment. First off, I want to preface this by saying I get it, staffing is a challenge these days, so patience is the name of the game when it comes to dining out, but there is a difference between a place dealing with staffing shortages and a place having a bunch of employees seemingly wandering around aimless while one super awesome manager is running around putting up decorations, sweeping floors, cleaning AND taking orders for servers who aren't doing their jobs. We waited almost 10 minutes after being seated before anyone even acknowledged us. By the way, we know it was 9+ minutes b/c we actually set a timer once we had been sitting there for 5 minutes with not a soul even acknowledging our presence, as when we asked a server if she was ours, she dismissed us with a "no, I am not your server, but I will see who is", without bothering to ask if we wanted waters or anything (which would be the definition of a "team" member by the way). Of course, she disappeared and walked by our table numerous times after that and never said a word (I assume because we weren't her problem). I do want to give kudos to the "super manager" however as we eventually made eye contact while she was sweeping up, and she offered to get our waters and drink orders since no one else was waiting on our table. She did signal to a server to take care of us, but I guess he was too busy holding up the wall, as he still didn't come by to check on us until she had made a couple of stops by our table. He was the epitome of minimum effort throughout the night, as he came off as being bothered that we were there, which is a huge turnoff when dining out, because I guess some places don't understand the concept that without customers... Not sure what was up as the place was pretty much empty, no one ever sang karaoke, the servers were just hanging out by the bar talking while the manager was doing everything. Multiple times we noticed the manager nudge the server over to our table to check on our needs, but it just seemed like he wanted to be anywhere but there, which honestly was how we felt after such inept service, so we passed on ordering more drinks (we had planned to stay the entire night, but left after an hour instead). Definitely a lesson learned, as staffing challenges may be out of their control, but training everyone to put in maximum effort, serve with a smile, and treat the customer like you value their business is definitely in their control, just like choosing the spend our weekends at any of the other numerous options out there in Ballantyne moving forward. The only reason this isn't a zero star review (besides the fact that Yelp doesn't allow those) is because the super manager earned five stars for her effort, but unfortunately the rest of her staff was a solid -3 stars.
