History
Established in 1949.
Hickory Community Theatre was organized in 1949 by a group of theatre lovers with Kay Johnson from the city's recreation department, who made it possible to use the auditorium at city hall for performances. Although partnership with the recreation department ended, the auditorium continued hosting productions and the Old City Hall eventually became the full-time home of the community theatre in 1988, after HCT helped the city renovate the auditorium space. We now produce 15 plays and 12 special events annually, including benefits for other nonprofits.
