The owner, Bobby Singh, has been consistently rude and aggressive. He came to my door at 8:15 a.m. today to yell at me simply because I asked his helper to avoid blowing leaves from my neighbor's driveway through our shared hedge and into my yard. This is not the first time he has raised his voice to me. In addition, his landscaping services are subpar. We hired him briefly for leaf maintenance but let him go after realizing he was just "rearranging" leaves and debris rather than properly collecting them. After ending his services, I personally filled two organics carts with cedar needles and leaves he had left behind in corners and under shrubs. Do not recommend his services AT ALL. read more

Bobby has been the gardener of our property since it was built in the 70s! When we bought our home in 2017, he spent time with us to go through what was planted where, why, how, and by which owner of the years. He is so knowledgable about this history and upkeep of our home and gardens; we knew we had to hire him. Since then, we've gotten to know him personally, and he's such a warm, caring person. He always goes over and above to take care of our plants, flowers, trees, weeds, and checks in with us about how we're doing with jobs, life, family. This company is the worst. I was a landlord for years and trusted they were doing their job. I faithfully paid their quarterly bill. I ended up moving into the house earlier this year and finally witnessed first-hand what a slip-shod job they had been doing all this time. Our agreement was for weekly front-yard service, which included the lawn, tree and shrub maintenance. Not only was his cadence more like every 3 weeks, this past time it was 5 weeks! Not only was my lawn out of control, but he spent a whopping 7 minutes doing the work - on par for most visits. He mowed and edged the lawn, then blew the scraps onto my porch (and under the front door). He hasn't trimmed the tree or shrubs since I moved in. When I called to end the service, explaining that he had been taking advantage of me for years and I only realized it because I now live there, and that it had been 5 weeks since his most recent visit with no ongoing communication as to why, he started swearing at me and saying his other customers don't have a problem. I said I'm surprised he even has any customers left if he treats them like this. He swore at me one more time and hung up. Good riddance. read more

Don't trust this company. I went with them for our routine gardening because they were close by and the owner seemed nice. Take it from me and don't make the same mistake. Or if you do, get any quote in writing and ask for real, professional invoicing. I set up a first clean up and routine service. The quote for the first clean up seemed high, but the routine seemed ok so I went with it. They did an ok job with the first cleanup, but it was just the owner and a high school kid for about 90 minutes and they charged $450. I hope he paid that kid ok but I'm guessing not exactly an even split. They also didn't cut up the larger yard waste enough so the city wouldn't pick it up and left it in front of our neighbors property which doesn't exactly make us popular. They also trampled literally the only (small) plant I specifically asked them to look out for. But my real complaint and the reason you should stay away was on a repair job. The owner said the valves on our front yard sprinklers needed to be replaced. Fine, they did look old and they were starting to drip. I asked how much and he said $150. Ok, I said, that's not exactly cheap but if a professional thinks it needs doing, let's do it. So he replaces them in about 30 minutes. The next day one is leaking worse than the originals. He came back and fixed it but I think it is still a mark of substandard work. Here is the real kicker. He sends an invoice, but the price is just blank. It says "for a 1 time sprinkler work. 3 sprinkler valves / parts & labor. Wk in the front yard". At the bottom $ .00. Hand written with a clear space for the dollar total but just a blank. So I text "hey, you sent a blank invoice, but it was $150, right"? Oh no, he says. It was $150 per valve. That's $450. I get that dawning feeling you get when you've been scammed, and it doesn't feel good. Ok, maybe the parts are really expensive? Because if it's for "parts and labor" then surely the parts cost a bit of that $450. Nope, google says it's a $35 part. So it's $105 in parts and $345 in labor for 30 minutes of work. I asked about this and he said "oh but I had to go to buy the parts! That's what I charge as a fixed price." A fixed price is not "parts and labor". Parts and labor is $X for the parts and $Y for however many hours of labor (even including the very short trip to the hardware store). Not a number you get to make up after the fact. I immediately asked them to stop our service because it was obvious they are not trustworthy. I paid the bill they sent because I'm always going to meet my end of a bargain, however illegitimate. But don't make the same mistake. So, if you use this company go in with a ton of caution. Get a written quote so he can't make something up after. And shop around. We now have a different service, they are fantastic. I very much believe in paying a high wage for honest hours worked. But not a made up amount. Trust someone else with your yard. read more

I live in the same neighborhood as the owner of Hibiscus Gardening and I have been watching their vehicles drive out to work in the morning for years now. When I needed a large gardening project done quickly, it seemed natural to call Bobby Singh and get an estimate. He showed up promptly and advised me to wait until later in the year, at which time the project would be less stressful to the bushes. I needed a whole fence line of 20 foot oleanders cut back to 5 feet tall in order to have a fence installed. I called him back in December, scheduled the job, and he arrived as promised. Bobby and his crew did a wonderful job, cleaned up every last bit of debris, and even came on a Saturday in order to help my time line. I highly recommend Hibiscus Gardening and this long-time Davis resident appreciates their work ethic. read more
