I was interested in testing out some new gyms in London and I was lucky that Orange Theory was…read moresigning up people for their soft opening. If you signed up, you could get discounted monthly memberships, and 4 free classes. The sign up was kind of long and confusing but in the end, I was signed up and ready to hit the classes. The staff here are working out the kinks as it hasnt actually had its grand opening yet so I dont want to judge them too harshly. They are helpful and welcoming which is all I can really ask for at this point. The classes are essentially high-intensity interval training (HIIT). They actually promote the same process as my current gym, the 'afterburn effect'. When you do short bursts of intense activity for a small period of time, your body continues to burn calories during the day. I know that this process works for some people, as I've been working out this way for a year, and I've seen many people lose a ton of weight due to this type of routine. Inside the orange-lit workout room you have a row of treadmills, a row of rowers, and a row of weight stations with a trx, bosu ball, free weights, and an ab dolly. During the workout, the trainer will let you know what you need to do. Every workout is different. No 2 workouts are the same so if you dont like doing the same thing over and over, this spot is for you. I have to say, the best thing about these classes is the technology. Before you enter, you are given a heart rate monitor. This is a cost of about $80 but these things arent cheap so its worth it. When you walk in, the staff can see that your monitor is on and working (or not working and you need to adjust). When you go into the workout room, the monitors above you tell you your heart rate, along with everyone elses. The goal is to get into the 'orange zone'. This is where you want to be to get that 'afterburn effect'. For every minute you are in the orange or red zone, you get a 'splat point'. I dont think there is any reward for getting splat points other than getting to a final goal that your trainer may set for the group. They say that you should attempt to get 12-20 splat points in a session. You'll start in the grey zone, move up to the blue as you warm up, the green will show your warmed up, the orange is the spot where you are working, and the red is where you are going all out. You'll spend a few minutes here, but they ensure you are not uncomfortable or at risk of hurting yourself. When your workout is done, you actually are EMAILED your results for that session. The minutes you worked out, the amount of time you spent in each zone, the calories burned, and splat points earned. Coolest. Thing. Ever. If you are someone who likes a smaller class, likes to have instruction, and wants something new and exciting each workout, this is the class for you. However, if you are like ME and you are not a fan of running...then maybe you will want to try a few classes and figure it out. I am no cardio bunny. I like body weight exercises and I like the bike or elliptical but I loathe running. I went to a few workouts, the first had about 20 minutes of running (intervals of slow, medium, and fast pace) and another class had 10 minutes of running, and a bunch of rowing, and then more running. Oh my goodness, my legs were burning. I don't think I will end up signing up for Orange Theory simply because I am at a point where cardio is actually doing me a disservice. I need more weight training. While there are SOME weights here, it is lower weight, high reps, at least for the classes I attended. I definitely suggest checking this place out and giving it a try. It's very cool and the heart rate stuff is not as gimmicky as I thought, it's pretty awesome!

The workouts are tough but fun and I love that they are different each time. I highly recommend OTF to anyone looking for a killer workout in South London

They have plenty of qualified personal trainers, high quality machines, and their dumbbells go up to 150lbs. They also have an amazing protein/smoothie bar I highly recommend the nutty monkey and blueberry goodness. The price is reasonable and if you're a student or live nearby you get a discount. It is open 24/7 all you have to do is scan your key fob, which you can also scan on the treadmill and it tracks your progress. The staff is extremely accommodating and welcoming, every time I go I feel so incredibly comfortable. Please consider this gym, you will not be disappointed.

As far as the facility itself is concerned it is smaller than the average gym perhaps, but it is extremely clean and well stocked. Further, the members are very respectful, and at any time the members working out will be one of the helpful trainers. Add to this that the facility is open 24hours with a member key-card (which you get by paying a refundable deposit), and that you also get access to the Berkshire Club's pool next door, I am very glad I came. The prices are reasonable, especially if you get a groupon.

This is the first time I've ever experienced harassment from staff at any Planet Fitness…read morelocation--and I've been a loyal member for over 3 years. I've trained at over 50 different PF locations across Canada and the U.S., and never once had an issue until I visited the Oxford, London (Ontario) location. The general manager at this location--who I can only identify by her distinct purple hair--has publicly and repeatedly humiliated me over a minor payment issue. Rather than handling the matter discreetly and professionally, she approached me loudly, aggressively, and condescendingly in front of other members, demanding immediate payment. She even insisted on taking my phone herself to view my banking information. Despite resolving the payment issue immediately, I returned the next day only to be approached again--this time with her pretending not to recognize me--and subjected to the same public embarrassment. This happened a total of three times. It is clear to me that this behavior is no longer about my account, but rather a personal targeting that has made me feel deeply uncomfortable and unwelcome. Due to the continued harassment, I will no longer be attending this location. Unfortunately, there are no other Planet Fitness clubs within 30 minutes of my home, and I will be cancelling my membership after three years of loyalty. I hope this matter is taken seriously and addressed appropriately so no other member has to endure this kind of treatment.

I know not to return there on my visits to Canada!

I walked to dance extreme and asked them kindly if my 3 yr old can use their bathroom. The lady rejected us and it was very embarrassing and frustrating. Next door was Olympic martial Arts...upon entering I notice there's a class going on this giant mat and the bathroom is on the other side. I figured I'm probably going to get rejected again and was getting ready to just leave. The gentleman teaching the class saw me and asked me what he can do to help. I didn't even tell him what happened next door but just that my 3 yr old needed the bathroom. He stopped his class so my daughter and I can walk right through the mats in between his students and access the bathroom in the back. He just asked that we take our shoes off before stepping on the mat. And then unfortunately we had to interrupt his class again to exit. It was such a small gesture and such a basic necessity but it made a huge difference for us. To think that dance extreme rejected us and their bathrooms aren't located anywhere inconvenient in their building was disheartening. This man stopped his class twice so my little girl can get to the bathroom. Not to mention his young students were watching and observing what was going on. It's a small gesture but it also taught the kids something that were in there. Martial Arts teaches respect and patience and it reflected on that class yesterday evening. This is the type of environment and sport I want my daughter in.

This is a ZERO STAR REVIEW…read more Went to see a kids class and if it was a program that would benefit my child. Interested mainly in kickboxing. Kindly asked the owner/instructor if they have classes focused on kickboxing. Was given a vague answer about "elbows to the face" and was asked how about Jiu Jitsu? Answered that my child had already tried jiu jitsu, and wanted to concentrate on kickboxing. Apparently my answer offended his pride, so he decided to yell loudly in his gym so everyone heard "I don't even want you in my classes, and I wouldn't take you". WOW. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. If you wonder if I am lying, go in and take a look at the kids class. He doesn't focus on any techniques, its just cardio for the hour, he doesn't remind kids on hip, body, feet or hand placement when punching or kicking. Was with friends when I kindly asked if they had more detailed kickboxing classes. Not once did I yell or make any statements. Just asked about kickboxing, not jiu jitsu. He also proceeded to SWEAR IN CANTONESE; a language I understand. So take what you will from that interaction. If someone is so defensive after one question, what is it that they really offer? Hot Air. Gym is very different from 10th Planet Etobicoke which offers separate muay thai and BJJ. This gym is very amateur when compared to 10th Planet and instructors would never swear if you had questions. Take away: You can give another business your patronage. This business would lose many customers if another place opened up in the West end of London. Wanted to support this small business, hence my initial first visit. Very unprofessional from old owner.
