Extremely disappointed with HGreg Trucks and their service department.
I purchased a truck from HGreg Trucks in Miami about six months ago. The truck itself seemed fairly priced, and I drove roughly 3 1/2 hours to inspect and test-drive it before purchasing.
During the inspection, I specifically pointed out that the front-right brake was grinding. I could both hear and feel it. I asked them multiple times to have the brakes inspected and told them I wanted the issue addressed before purchasing the truck. I was told the brakes were brand new, but I still insisted they have their service department look at them.
Before I completed the purchase, I was told their service department had gone through the brakes and that everything was good to go. I trusted that their service department had actually inspected the vehicle as they said they had.
The brake continued grinding after I took the truck home.
Approximately 4 1/2-5 months later, I took the truck in for routine service. The mechanic found that one of the front brake pads had been installed incorrectly, resulting in metal-on-metal contact and completely damaging the rotor. Because of that mistake, what should have been a brake-pad issue turned into having to replace the rotor as well, costing me additional money in parts and labor.
I contacted HGreg and provided photos showing the damage. The photos clearly showed the marks from the caliper pistons contacting the incorrect side of the brake pad and the resulting damage to the rotor.
Instead of taking responsibility or even attempting to help resolve the issue, I was told that it was "impossible" for the brake pad to have been installed backwards and that I must have somehow tampered with the truck myself. I was also told there was nothing they could do for me.
That's extremely frustrating considering I specifically identified the brake problem before purchasing the truck, specifically asked them to inspect it, and was assured by their service department that the brakes were fine.
I was also told by one of their own employees that their service department doesn't even change the oil on the trucks. Whether that's their normal practice or not, it certainly made me glad I had the truck serviced myself after purchasing it.
I don't expect a dealership to be perfect, but I do expect them to stand behind work their own service department claims to have performed--especially when the customer specifically points out a problem before purchasing the vehicle.
My experience was that the service department failed to properly inspect/repair the truck, and when the resulting damage was brought to HGreg's attention, they refused to take any responsibility for it.
If you're considering purchasing a vehicle from HGreg Trucks, I'd strongly recommend having an independent mechanic thoroughly inspect it before you buy. Don't simply take their word that something has been checked or repaired. read more
