Visiting in town and Yelped to find the BEST Hot Dog in town. Hubby and I drove the 11 minutes from our hotel to locate Hey Hot Dog. We weren't sure if we were supposed to follow the car parked in front of the restaurant to order. The answer is Yes. LOL We parked and got out and the nice young girl handing the parked car people their order said, "You can sit at the picnic tables or order from your car if you follow this car." Oh goodness, that's the process. So we got back in our car and pulled to the other side of the orange cones. Menu is nice and easy. Hubby ordered a Polish Sausage and I ordered a Hot Dog, both with mustard only. No onions, no chili, no cheese. We're a bit on the boring side. We're also not fans of root beer which is one of their popular offerings. So no thank you and no to a bag of chips which is the only side offered. Within 5 minutes the sweet girl brought our order out to us. We paid cash, which is all they accept, and added a tip too. Delicious hot dogs! Why did we only order one? They are closed on Sunday so can't go back until Monday. read more

Recently came here the other day. Please take note that even though Will County allows dine in service, they won't do that here instead, they'll come to your car. They don't have menus on tab but you can easily find one on Yelp or the company website. Prices are good, service is great. It's a small business that's been here a while so I'll give them a helping hand. Outdoor seating is available. Definitely check this place out. Owner is really nice too. read more

Hey! Hot Dog sends you to a bygone era with very reasonably priced fare. The menu is limited, so don't expect a massive list of options, but "hey," you just have to know that up front. I chose a couple BBQ sandwiches, as one wouldn't have been quite enough. Step up to the old-fashioned counter to place your order. Pending seat availability, you can also enjoy your meal here. We had a brief wait time on the BBQs and grabbed a table in the next (only other) room over, where we'd also eat. Like the food offerings, Hey! Hot Dog's environment is equally no-frills. They could fix one of the flashing overhead lightbulbs, but I think they're more focused on serving up good grub in an atmosphere from another time. The BBQs were sweet and had fabulous buns. Best of all, you won't break the bank visiting this Joliet classic. Hey! Hot Dog is also known for its root beer served in a mug, but I didn't order one this time. Since I'm in the area had to stop by and check out the competition to Joe's hot dogs I ordered the chili dog with mustard no cheese light onion chase that down at ordered a small root beer I was pleased with the chili dog I actually have to say their chili dog is better than Joe's and leave it at.The the dog had snapchili was thicker less beans bun was hot... like I said the chili was pretty good the onions were a little bit overdone in regards to the amount but I went light on the second one and that solved that problem. We came here for a quick lunch. The owner works by himself and was just non stop working banging out all these chili dog orders. He was very welcoming and had a very positive attitude. I ordered one with everything and another one with no onions. The one with everything came with relish, onions mustard and chili and it was a very filling hot dog with the chili of course being the highlight of the dog. These dogs remind of the coney dogs in Detroit. I also ordered their root beer float. I mean who wouldn't? Three dogs and a root beer float for $10. You sure can't beat that. I learned of this iconic hot dog stand from watching Chicago's Best TV. They featured 2 of my favorite childhood items. Coney Dog and a Black Cow. To me chili on a dog should never have beans. It would be great if they also offered shreaded cheese, vs squeeze bottle. A very basic menu with homemade root beer since 1959. Third generation proprietor has 41 years in the books. He says he has 29 years until he retires. Make your way to the counter for your treats and have a nice chat with the owner BJ. Hours on online said open 10A.M. Until 8P.M. But when went at 11:45 A.M. the owner said there closed . Even the sign on outside of building said open. If not going be open don't post it open everwhere. Update month later final made it at a later time to try the hotdogs and they are great and priced cheaper compared others. A tradition in Joliet . Been going there since early 70s. When they were located on Cass Street east side. And now moved to the location on Ruby Street. Food is great for what it is hotdogs Polish chili dogs and great root beer A&W can't beat it get a cold glass most of the time. But since Covid haven't been able to get into the restaurant itself. Have had to cycle outside and sit and wait for your food. I don't know when the owner will reopen the inside. Growing up there was nothing better than to go to Hey Hot Dog. They have the little swivel stools.. great chili and cheese dogs and... frosted mugs of A&W rootbeer. Also when I went to high school, I soon realized that the hot twins from the hockey team started working there as their after school job. Yum xs 2. In the summer you could hop over there and get some dawgs, buy some scratch offs, and watch the ballgame (the white sox that is) on the tele. The owner would chat it up with you (even though he's a cubs fan he's still awesome.) It's warm. It's home. Black cows. Some of the best hot dogs around. I miss the root beer here so much. This is a Joliet staple. It's a small place with a small counter, but the owners are nice and the food is cheap & good. They offer a really exceptional array of toppings and delicious hot dogs. But! I come here for the regular home-made root beer. I never had home-made, not conglomerate-produced root beer before being introduced to theirs, and it's soooo good. I have been trying to hit some of the hot dog joints in the Joliet area where I have been driving through a lot lately. Also tried this place due to the reviews I have read. My first thought in my head after stopping here was that I made a mistake. While ordering found out they only have root beer and water, chips no fries, hot dogs are grilled not steamed, and not all my favorite toppings. But they do offer a lot of other toppings that you usually don't find, sauer kraut, horse radish, chili, and various peppers. Choose a root beer, and the guy pulls out a frosted mug on the cooler, my soda actually had a layer of ice on it. This was a great touch. Also to my surprise was the grilled hot dog was pretty tasty. I've always enjoyed this place, The BBQ was my mom's favorite when I was growing up, I always loved his Polish Sausages. It's 2nd Generation ownership, and BJ knows everyone in town! He makes his soups fresh everyday when he serves soup in the winter, and often has daily specials. The taste of this food hasn't changed in the 25 years I can remember going here. Cheap, American, Hot Dogs + Root Beer. That's pretty much all you need to know about Hey Hot Dog. The dogs are simple and cheap. Don't expect fancy gourmet dogs with tons of toppings...they have simple dogs with simple, classic toppings (cheese + Jalapenos is a good combo). And you don't even get a plate to put it on (I loved this). The root beer is amazing. Served in chilled mugs and poured from the tap, it's sweet and delicious. It's cold enough to turn itself into a slushy as you drink it. The owner is a really friendly guy too. He'll listen to your stories and even has a few of his own. I then had a second polish sausage the way the owner likes it. He called it the owners special. Polish with mustard, hot horseradish, onions, sauerkraut and black pepper. OMG!!!
