I was interested in seeing this doctor as my new primary care provider, but my experience calling the office was incredibly disappointing. The first woman I spoke to began taking my information but was impatient and didn't ask why I was calling. Then, without warning, she abruptly hung up. When I called back, a gentleman answered and resumed the intake process. He commented, "Oh, you're the patient," and asked a few more detailed questions. When I explained that I had just started my insurance plan and was looking for a primary care doctor, he asked if I was currently taking any medications. I said no--and his response was simply, "New patients have a 2-3 month wait." I was shocked. It felt dismissive and made me wonder if I had done something wrong. He assured me that this was their standard policy, but the interaction felt cold and transactional--like because I wasn't bringing in ongoing prescription revenue, I wasn't a priority. If this is indeed their policy, they should clearly indicate that they are not currently accepting new patients in a timely manner or post a notice about the long wait. It would save people time and frustration. The whole experience left a bad impression.

My family and I have been going to Dr. Tran's office for about 18 years and we've never had a need…read moreto see another physician, even when we moved about half an hour away from Los Angeles eight years ago. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Dr. Tran's office is in an older brick building, right across the street from the Orsini Apartments (you can't miss them - they're the giant duplexes). If you're coming from Grand, then Dr. Tran's office will be on your right. The building itself looks very old, but that's just the historical parts of the Old Chinatown. PARKING: You can either park in front of the brick building and enter from the front doors (the one with the Acupuncture sign right above it), or you can park in the private lot behind the brick building (you can access the lot from Bunker Hill Ave.). If you do park in the back lot, be careful that some spots are reserved only for the tenants of the adjacent apartment. SERVICE: Dr. Tran and his staff are the some of the best qualified physicians & nurses I've met. They're knowledgeable, willing to go the extra mile to ensure that you're healthy, will help with referrals to see other specialists, and most of all, personable. - Mrs. Thao, the main nurse, is always super friendly. She helps Dr. Tran administer shots during flu season, when the doctor's office is overrun with people. She's also very great to chat with if you're waiting for Dr. Tran. You can ask her any health related questions or just talk to her about what's going on in your life - either way, you'll end up with a new perspective on things & maybe even learn some things you didnt' know before. - Mrs. Michelle is the receptionist. All referrals go through her, so if your treatment with a specialist is being delayed, talk to Mrs. Michelle, she'll know why and help you out. - Dr. Tran is the only physician in this office. He's always invested in your personal health. Over the years, he's helped me through numerous bouts with the flu, minor colds, and even major ear infections. OVERALL: Since I've been a patient at this office basically since I was a toddler, there's no other physician that I would rather go to. Sure, the staff at other health centers are friendly, but they're not as personable as the staff at Dr. Tran's office.

His broad scope of expertise, humanity, tact, and sense of humor have made a lasting positive impact on my life. Like most of his other patients, I can say without hesitation that I consider him and Peggy to be a part of my extended family. I will never forget receiving an unprompted call from Dr. H late in the evening many years ago after they learned of a sudden health crisis that my parent suffered. Thankfully, my parent's crisis eventually resolved; but that brief check-in from Dr. H touched me deeply. I knew that I was not alone and that he genuinely cared. Unheard of in modern medicine, when you call their office after-hours and connect with the emergency line, the phone rings at Dr. H's house. They trust their patients not to abuse that access; but the small number of times that my family needed it, Peggy and Dr. H were on the other end of the line, providing useful information and reassurance, even at 4AM. My experience as a patient of Dr. H's played no small role in my own journey towards becoming a physician. I often find myself trying to recall one of his totally unique and pithy one-liner jokes when I need to break the ice with a new patient. Family practices like this one are virtually impossible to find these days. The world would be a much better place if everyone had a medical team like Dr. Horowitz and Peggy.

With covid and how things are run differently now, communication is KEY! Peggy sent me all the health forms that needed to be completed in a timely manner via email. She was wonderful at responding to my emails, and she made things so easy! They went out of their way to see me in person in a really short notice as my visit required necessary clearance for my nursing program. They only have certain days for appointments but she made an exception for me as my work schedule conflicted with their in-person office visits. Peggy also sent me my labs on a Saturday as I requested if she could send it to me as soon as they receive it.. they are closed on Saturdays and she did that for me (I am so grateful!). I also want to say that I drove from Monterey Park to Dr. Horowitz's office on a Friday during the time that there is so much traffic (traffic alone in this area if you already know is hideous) but I would do it again! Thank you so much Peggy and Dr. Horowitz!!
