They're quite casual in that they open only for a shift of 8 hours everyday, except the weekends, when they're open a couple hours longer. The food menu is nice. The coffee is decent, and so are the prices. There are lots of beers on tap if you're into intoxicating yourself. They also get a lot of expats. I always run into a group playing board games or just casually chatting about their work lives. Why 3 stars? The bartender (the only customer facing staff member) usually seems quite unoccupied. Customer service and hospitality is a misnomer. The last time there was this crazy lady who kept kicking the stools at the bar. Upon enquiring, we were told that she's 'fine'. What?! Get her a beer or something! A good place for an evening coffee or tea, perhaps a light dinner. I wish they also opened in the mornings.

I'm not clear how Vergulden Eenhoorn managed their staff but this 12 hour event flowed seamlessly from one end of the 1700s farm to the other and they kept us moving from one attractive space to another. The food was INCREDIBLE, cooked to perfection and served family style. Appetizers: Jamon Iberico, fresh steamed giant artichokes, fried soft shell crabs and more. Main courses: Bone-in prime rib served with Bearnaise sauce; whole sea bass; green salad. Over a dozen cakes (maybe more?). In the wee hours... gorgeous sliders and fries. Kid and doggy friendly. Only thing I dont love is there no laptop or wifi policy during weekends and peak hours. I get that this is a personal policy, and facilitates human to human contact... but I was looking forward to having some much-needed me time (Im a new mom who needed a getaway). Orange juice (always fresh squeezed in EU) was great of course. So were my croissant and cheese. But le piece de resistance of this visit was my latte! WOW, the most well balanced, smooth cup of espresso goodness I have had the entire time I was in Europe! The Dutch know how to make a fantastic latte among many other things. This establishment has a local crowd and is very reasonably priced, great choice for breakfast or lunch!

I have tried their famous hamburger with fries and I am a fan!! The hamburger was big and juicy with very nice spicy relish on the top of it. They serve it with a portion of fries on the side. The prices are ok, within the limit for this type of establishment. Staff is very friendly and helpful even when it gets very crowded. It is a great place for drinks and a quick bite with some friends.
