Alvarez Construction of Louisiana - The house, still in progress.

We've contracted for a house built by Alvarez and are eagerly awaiting finishing it's construction…read morein Livingston. While there are a few things here and there I would have liked them to do differently, for the most part if was a very smooth engagement. The one thing that set Alvarez apart was the most dear to my heart. My daughter has a disability that necessitates her having to take a shower in a bath chair, and in standard bathrooms this can be very difficult requiring specialized, clunky equipment that can be dangerous. I surveyed multiple home builders and Alvarez was the only builder who said they would deviate from their standard construction and put in a shower with no barrier, with a floor that is even with the rest of the bathroom, that a bath chair could easily be rolled into and out. No extra charge. They also made a change in door ways to allow my daughter to have a private area between her room and her bathroom. That sealed the deal for me. Other home builders, such as DSLD, refused to make ANY modifications and basically sent me away, even when I called their headquarters. Alvarez to date has shown that they have a heart. Kudos to them. I would strongly encourage anyone who is looking for a new built home to include them in your picklist.

As a former facilities supervisor who has managed multiple roof-related projects, I'm honestly…read morestunned by the exceptional level of communication, skilled professionalism and follow through provided by Louisiana Roof Crafters to make this roof replacement such a smooth experience for my mother in law in Baton Rouge. This project was significantly more complicated than most, since I was coordinating from Seattle, on behalf of my 80-year-old mother in law. Upon our family visit to her home recently, I inspected her roof to find subtle weather-related damages. I reached out to a list of roofing companies in the Baton Rouge area, with Google reviews of at least 4.5 of 5 stars, who also showed a solid reputation with the Better Business Bureau. Louisiana Roof Crafters (LRC) returned my call same day. Within two days, an inspection of the roof was underway by their Project Manager, Brian Ballard... all before the first call back from LRC's competitors. Ballard and I discussed all the specs of the shingle product to be included in the replacement proposal, the finer points of ice/water shield for roof valleys amid a myriad of other details and the all-important warranties, all of which I was very pleased to see met or exceeded industry standards. Ballard carefully walked me through the insurance claim process for my mother in law's carrier, and he coordinated follow up through me weeks later so he actually walked the roof alongside my mother in law's insurance claims adjuster, to be sure the adjuster was accounting for the same subtle hail damage that prompted the claim. Ballard even provided a list to the adjuster of multiple hailstorms that had swept through the area 6 months prior, something I could not have been aware of, which bolstered the insurance claim. Additionally, Ballard assured us that LRC's cost estimating software is also used by the major insurance companies, reducing the chance of debate over costs of replacement/repair. All of the above resulted in the insurance adjuster writing a check before he left my mother in law's property, to fully pay for all labor and materials for LRC to replace the roof, minus the deductible. In the follow up to that approval went a plethora of communications discussing the various options, potential upgrades in products, inventories and scheduling. Ballard maintained the same high level of communication and follow up through it all. Despite all his other work and projects due to storm damage in the area in the weeks after we started working together, he continued to provide the same level of customer care as he did prior to our commitment to his firm. He sent me copies of every important document before it was to be signed by my mother in law, implemented any edits we agreed upon, and made sure I received all copies of signed documents. We could not be more grateful for the thoroughness, communication and final outcome - and, I believe, most importantly, the consistent integrity - we experienced with Louisiana Roof Crafters and their team of professionals, led by their project manager, Brian Ballard.

Faithless Gutters…read more Quite possibly the worst contractor I have ever worked with. He installed gutters that exited onto shingles causing unnecessary wear. This required $250 to repair. See attached pic. In addition his installation of the patio was massively substandard, the roofing and gutter people we had to get to repair the area called it the worst they had ever seen. See attache pic 2500$. Unfortunately this isn't something that you could see from the ground. Only getting on the roof would spot it. When we went to sell the house it was discovered by the home inspector and is not something that we could ever sell the house with. I contacted Charles to make things right. He said he didn't know what was wrong and to go ahead and have someone else fix the problem. I told him that the gutter person had quoted 2-3 thousand for the repair. He swore up and down that he would pay for the repairs. I'm sure you can see where this is going. Repairs compete, to standard and the total is 2750. Charles suddenly gets amnesia when we send him the invoices and only pays back 250$. Bear in mind we had to contact him numerous times to get that amount. During the subsequent call, he lies and says that we said we would be getting bids and getting back to him. Not true. And that he never would have agreed to that amount. Also not true. Charles was quick and cheep, many of our fiends and neighbors went with Charles. Mutual close friends in fact recommended him to us. I will be recommending that all of them get their installations looked at by a professional. Charles acts like I'm ripping him off. But the facts are it cost us thousands to repair his awful installation. All we wanted is for Charles to make it right. He did not.

He tried to sell us gutters to stop the leaking, although we already have gutters. The caulking along the, exterior of the siding was added in a hurry, with gaps in the caulking where water could enter. Since that time, we have had others tell us that we paid too much for this addition, and also, that the work was not done correctly. The owner was in a rush to get the job completed, got angry when I asked if the sunroom would be insulated, left trim boards un -nailed, and much of the interior trim was unleveled, or out of plumb. We have had to use more caulk and weatherproof tape to keep our building addition from leaking. Any structure that is made of siding, does not have a channel at the bottom that collects rainwater, or moisture that has been blown against the lower part of the structure. Common sense would tell you this! We have had two other contractors look at it and say that it was done incorrectly.
