The Southern California Logistics Airport is based on the former George Air Force Base which was active from 1941 to 1992. The airport has no commercial passenger service and is designed for business, military, and freight use. International cargo flights can land here as well due to its "foreign trade zone status". It is also home to several aerial firefighting units etc. and runway 17/35 at 15000 feet is the second largest public runway in the US. Following the grounding of 737 MAX's, Southwest elected to park their entire fleet here pending resolution of the software and flight safety issues that resulted in two crashes. What draws plane nuts to Victorville is the boneyard by and large. There is a large variety of mostly large aircraft that are either being stored (the hot dry climate is ideal) or being dismantled. Row after row of once proud airlines are lined up awaiting their fate's. Depending on how hard core you are you can make out the livery of current and often defunct airlines that have moved on. There are a few mysteries like the near new 787 parked and stored for more than a year. I could not get the tail numbers, but it may be an early production model that is too heavy for commercial use. Beyond the allure of seeing the planes there is not much else to do here. That being said, the city of Victorville has plenty of options for gas and eating, but unless there is a specific aviation event or your waiting for a particular plane to arrive, there is not much else going on at SCLA.

Overall, would have gladly paid fees considering the priority of making it home for Thanksgiving but very grateful for the sense priority the personnel placed in simply ensuring they could all help get my father and I home. Upon my return on Friday, the next crew was just as incredibly helpful. Kudos to management for setting up the right culture as the crew certainly emphasized the trickled down mindset of providing the best customer service. Without a doubt will recommend Million Air to friends and colleagues. Lastly, tower was extremely helpful while in the soup in moderate/severe turbulence. The last minute diversion couldn't of gone better after totally knowing tower shifted their entire focus to providing the upmost assistance possible. Thank you all! -Serg

From parking just steps from the terminal to cruising through TSA, everything was fast and stress free. I went from putting my car in park to sitting at the gate in under five minutes, which felt almost suspiciously efficient. The waiting area is spacious with plenty of seating, so even hanging out before boarding was comfortable. Right now the limited flight options are the only downside, but if more routes are added someday, this airport would be hard to beat for convenience.

Every time I use this airport I'm reminded of San Jose airport but much more modern. Clean and efficient just as I imagine the home office likes it. The flow: get dropped off, bag check is right there, security immediately after, IMMEDIATELY after the gates are all lined up. The line moves generally very fast. I think the longest I've waited in line is still under 10 minutes to get past security. The fastest til it's my turn to go through has been 30 seconds, if that. Speed and efficiency are the hallmarks. They have enough eateries to choose from as little shops as well for snacks magazines etc. My one con here is that I think they only have airline specific lounges. Would love if they had at least a priority lounge here. But I think it's a relatively smaller airport so I won't fault them too hard here. I mean again I barely wait in the security line so there probably isn't enough foot traffic to justify a priority lounge.

The airport is an outdoor airport, meaning you go outside before you go back in. And Palm Springs gets HOT. Luckily, the airport is not large so you won't be outside for too long. Due to the size, there are limited options in terms of food and entertainment to go to while waiting for your flight but you will still be able to find something. There is a large central court where I was able to plug in and get some work done while waiting for my flight. I was so focused on my work that I didn't hear the boarding announcement that my flight was boarding early. Luckily, the staff went out of their way to search for me and got me on the flight before the doors closed - whew!

They're all pretty much nearby each other so you don't have to drive around trying to find the kiosk. Rental pickup is outside where you find the car yourself but it's pretty simple. Same as returning it. Not only it's an international airport, it's small and easy to maneuver and find your way. Way less stress than the major airport in town and you can get in and out without the crazy traffic. It's a win win. Oh, a lot of the airport is outside and it's beautiful.

Yes, it has also lost its soul and everything that made it Bob Hope airport. It feels suspiciously like OAK. What I miss: - walking out the airport to the rental car building. I could do the whole process and get to Playa Vista before you could get from the airport, board a shuttle, deal with rental car line at LAX. - small TSA lines that moved quickly and hardly ever had a wait - food and coffee (the opened the terminal before the food vendor moved in) - walking out to an uber / Lyft 1 min outside the terminal What I don't miss: - The elevators and moving walkways were always broken (why???). - how crowded it would get by some of the gates - definitely not enough room for seating and standing What I hate: - a shuttle to and from the rental car that takes 20 min and that drops you off across from the terminal so you are still shlepping your bag in the heat/rain - 1 set of TSA lines that were long - yes pre moved quickly and made me feel good about that recent splurge. - why bother opening without food? They had one tiny Starbucks kiosk with a huge line. I want to support Jones coffee anyway (eat local) - no walkways from terminal to plane??? If they are going to make it all fancy, why keep the tarmac boarding?
