I do not even want to rate them a one. I had a reservation and confirmation number. Got there at 10pm after a long day, and no car. The man at the counter stated "Yep, this happens all the time." Recommended I go to AVIS or Economy. I went to AVIS and they were very accommodating. Got me all set up. I am telling you and everyone in my family that is going down in the next three weeks, to help take care of my elder parent, to Definity not rent from here. Do NOT rent from Hertz in Punta Gorda, FL. 3 months after our rental return we were notified via e-mail to submit police report or information on how damage to the car occurred. We automatically assumed it was a scam, as we didn't have an accident or damage the car, until our insurance called requesting more information on the claim filed by Hertz. Terrible Customer Service. We will not be renting from them again! The cars we selected were not ready and one had expired tags. So we ended up renting two other cars. We selected to have them fill up the cars when we dropped off the vehicles. It was to be 2.90 a gallon. After receiving my receipt, we were charged 9.99 a gallon. I called customer service and they said there is nothing they can do. The supervisor wasn't interested in helping my situation either. Use another rental company! read more

A horrific experience! Arrived to pick up our car and they didnt have any vehicles... were told corporate had taken 20 cars off the lot. I had rented and prepaid two months in advance! We were stranded at the airport trying to find alternative transportation at 1:30 am...with two exhausted children... a nightmare!!! read more

Worst rental car experience in 30 years. Booked on line on hertz.com for $276, this location tried to charge me over $500 when I checked in to get my car. For some reason I had printed my booking---thankfully! After 45 minutes of persistence accomplished getting everything corrected but $88 they were quoting as an extra airport charge they said they couldn't change. Another 15 minutes and finally got that removed. Driving away in the car and there is less than 1/8 of a tank of gas. I had purchased to have them fill my tank upon return so told them not to charge me when I brought the car back today. I have no confidence that will be honored. I'm a gold member so didn't wait in line to be sure the charges were correct. Tried calling Hertz customer service to follow up and was transferred 8 times and then disconnected. Won't use them again. read more

Hertz Rent A Car - No gas - Car Rental Near Me - Punta Gorda, Florida

RUN, RUN, RUN... to another Car rental agency! I had a reservation cost $250 for weeks rental. I get to the rental counter they try to charge me $350. I complain and the guy shows me their 1-800 number! Real professional right? Finally gives me another car for $250 without the GPS (what $100 for a GPS - I could run to WM and buy one). Took FOREVER to get away from the desk - 30 minutes (claims their computers are slow). They say my next rental will be speedier. Yes it will be because I will go elsewhere. As if all this was not bad enough 4 days into the rental I just noticed that the front tires are down to the warning indicators. I am not exaggerating this is the truth. Completely unprofessional. I thought Hertz was supposed to be this great rental agency. read more

I made a reservation online to pick up a rental car from the PGD location at 6 pm on Sat, Jun 28th. I arrived at the location at 6 and it was closed. I find it appalling that A) I was allowed to make a reservation for a time later than the location was open, B) not one single person reviewed the registration and took the initiative to call me and let me know the location closed by 4 so I needed to pick the car up before then. I called the 800 number and they were also ineffective and unhelpful. The first person I spoke with had no idea why the location was closed -- he thought it was supposed to be open until 11 -- and the second could only offer up "sorry." Ridiculous. I promise, I will NOT be renting from Hertz again. read more

Bravo to the employees of Hertz who have found an industry where they can ignore customer concerns! I should have taken it as a bad sign when we were at the rental car counters in the Punta Gorda Airport, and the other companies had lines and Hertz didn't. Upon returning the car on 4/23, I was juggling two babies, a 12 year old, two suitcases, two car seats, two diaper bags and a stroller, and I left my phone in the rental car. I realized it when we arrived in the plane. My husband placed a message on my phone to call his number when found. Upon arriving home, he had a voice message from Vanessa at Hertz, and she had my phone! She called his phone from my phone to leave the message. We tried calling all day on Sunday to reach someone with no answer. My husband was able to reach Vanessa on Monday morning and she gave us an email address to email a Fedex label and the phone would arrive back to me on Wednesday 4/27. Vanessa contacted him back. Oops! She gave the wrong email address. We bought a second label and sent it to the correct email address. On Wednesday our label hadn't even shown as printed yet. We were told the label wasn't for enough money. We purchased a third label and sent it on Wednesday for my phone to arrive on Friday 4/29. On Friday, I received a phone. It wasn't mine. We contacted the owner of that phone and sent him his phone, hoping that he would receive ours. He never did. His Fedex label was never printed. My husband called Vanessa who said that she sent us the only phone they had. Clearly a lie since she called his phone from my phone on the 23rd! She directed us to her manager, Gary. My husband emailed him. We have had no reply. We have attempted to call there on several occasions between 4/29 and today, 5/13 with no answer. I called customer service on 5/2. They said we would have to do a lost item claim, which I did. On 5/3, I called about the lost item claim and was told that the lost item claim department doesn't handle that location. I called customer service and they said they will have the manager call me. I called customer service on 5/4. I finally reached William, after being disconnected multiple times, who was the first person to apologize for our troubles. He completed a form that goes to a special department that handles concerns. He said I would hear from them in 5-7 days. It's been 9 days with no word. I called customer service again yesterday, and they said they would have the store manager call me. My husband and I have both sent emails to several email addresses over the almost three weeks this has been going on with nothing other than an automated response that it was received. I have waited for nearly three weeks for someone within this organization to do the right thing. Fortunately, Verizon was kind enough to provide me a flip phone in the interim. I was told by one employee that they are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Well the thing is, it wasn't lost, because the Hertz employee confirmed she had it. I do consider it stolen at this point, but it's been stolen by Hertz staff. Apparently theft by their employees is not a concern either. On top of all of that, I have also been waiting for a $100 credit that is owed on the car I rented on 4/19! It is 5/13! I have spent hours trying to reach anyone who can help try and resolve this issue. I would not recommend Hertz to anyone. I will tell every person who ever tells me a about renting a car this story. I am appalled that any company today can be so evasive about dealing with customer concerns. read more

If I could give ZERO stars, that is what I would give! Our experience online was good, We did the prepay option (NEVER AGAIN!). The staff at the desk were okay, however, when they wanted to run my credit card that has a low amount, my card was declined mainly because of the so called "holding" fee. I rented from Enterprise this summer and their fee was 150.00. Their statement says up to 200.00. I figured since I prepaid it would be at least the 150.00, When I get to the airport it was almost 400.00. I do not have that kind of credit card and for a reason. I declined the sale since I could not afford it and card was declined. When I was visibly upset about this because we needed the car for Sarasota, the lady at the desk was trying to be helpful in stating we could "rent a cab". Hello?! thats going to cost way more than our rental. They said there was nothing they could do and that we needed to contact customer service to obtain the money we spent with no Car. Eventually we were able to find another rental car at the same location without the HUGE Deposit. My total rental with deposit was 162.00! for three days! I have since contacted customer service twice to try to get our money for a car that we never rented. When I talked to the Customer Service rep on the phone who was RUDE and I asked for my money back she said we would probably get something back but minus the fees for non pickup, I said the price is around 25.00 is what the "fine print" stated for non pick up, she sarcastically replied No, between 50-90.00. I said I was not a "no show", I was there She said she sent it for review and that was was almost two weeks ago. So I guess, I get to eat the 106.00 that was charged for something I did not receive! We have family and friends in the area and have told them not to bother to deal with Hertz. We will only deal with "Reputable" companies along with the lesson of not "Pay NOW" option!
