Rented earlier this year and should have updated sooner. Only one person at the counter helping a line of people which meant a long wait. I reserved a mid sized suv and ended up with a small piece of junk suv. Seriously? Also the older Black guy with the salt and pepper beard at the checkout gate before you leave the parking lot is rude as hell. The younger gentleman I had to see at that same gate (I had to visit the exit gate twice) the first time was very nice and helpful. The reason I had to go to the gate twice is because before getting the smaller vehicle they put me in the first one and as soon as I drove just a few feet the dashboard lights came on letting me know there were issues with it. Surely you guys knew this before putting the car back on the lot. So I had to keep going to the checkout gate and loop back around. I WILL NOT use Hertz again. Oh one last thing - when I booked I used my debit card. Imagine my dismay when I finally got to the front of the line to learn that I needed a credit card to pay OR they would pull $500 off my debit card plus do a credit check. What in the absolute fuck?! Luckily I had a credit card with me. Update - when I returned the car I happened to pass an employee and asked him if they had a lost and found area. Long story short he was willing to go over and look for something for me and had a pleasant and helpful attitude. He didn't end up looking because to me it seemed like it would be too much of an inconvenience for a small thing that may not have even been in there anyway, so I told him not to worry about it. He was super nice though. For that reason im raising this review to two stars. read more

Bottom Line: Stay away from Hertz at the Memphis Airport!!! Less than zero experience. Check all the other one-stars. Without a doubt the worst rental car experience ever. Clearly little to zero management. With a prior reservation it took nearly an hour to get a car and get to my location making me late and embarrassed. My first car had no FOB and it could not be located!!! How does that even happen?! I had to wait for them to find another car. A patron before me angrily came back because the license plates on his vehicle were expired!! Another person had no FOB in their vehicle. Staff seemed confused, overwhelmed. It didn't stop there. Upon return there were 39 to 40 empty cars lined up, with no one to check you in, patrons, clearly in frustration simply left the vehicles in the check in lanes with the emergency flashers blinking. It was sort of surreal. Renter be very ware! Hertz, you have a major problem at this location that is seriously dragging your brand down. read more

I have tried renting a car with Memphis Hertz twice now and both time I have had a terrible experience. My first trip I had a confirmation for 9:30am. I arrived at 9:33am to the desk, and was then told that since my arrival time was supposed to be 8:59am, and they have a 30 minute grace period, that I was late. By 4 minutes. I was then told that because I did not pick up my car on time (even after I showed the confirmation time stating 9:30am) the system was automatically increasing my rate and my cost was increased by almost $500. She told me to call a customer support line which after 20 minutes of talking to a robot before I could speak to an associate, only further confirmed that the price and arrival time in my confirmation email should be correct. There was apparently nothing to do about the situation at this point, because the system couldn't be changed. After about an hour and a half back and forth since I arrived, I was finally able to speak to a manager and get my price properly adjusted to the rate I had booked. The second time all was well until I was told I couldn't use my credit card, because it was ringing up as a debit card and they needed my return flight info (which was not booked yet due to the nature of my work). This wasn't a big deal and I ended up simply using a different card, but the clerk behind the desk was not helpful, and quite rude throughout the interaction. I was politely asked to wait outside, as they were bringing clean cars out to the presidents circle to pick from and they were running a bit behind. I had booked an SUV, so when the first car to come up was a sedan I simply waited for someone else to take it. There were quite a few people waiting for cars at this point so I knew more were coming. The same women from behind the desk proceeded to snap at me and tell me I had to chose the first car that arrived. I am much more comfortable driving a bigger car like an SUV than driving a sedan, but at this point I was so fed up I got in the sedan and went to the exit. I can admit I look young, but I have now twice with these interactions been treated as if I am a child who doesn't know where to go without being snapped at or spoken to harshly. I can deal with driving a sedan, using a personal card, or dealing with system errors that are obviously not the fault of the worker behind the desk. Both of these unfortunate situations however were handled very unprofessionally and rudely. read more

This Hertz location is a HOT MESS!!! I dropped a vehicle off here & didn't get my receipt as normal. Multiple calls to the number listed 901.345.5680 & no one answers, only the automated prompt. I even picked change/cancel a reservation, which prompts me to speak to the desk & it goes to a full voice mail. I've spent three (3) days & several hours getting passed from one customer service representative to the next. The last customer service representative couldn't get in contact with the Memphis airport desk & supposedly submitted a receipt request, which is another 24-hour wait. If Hertz has a quality control department, please go look at your Memphis airport location. Now at day 10 & not a DAMN thing has been done. If there is a corporate number I can call, I would appreciate it. It's a SHAME, that I've been waiting 10 days & only get run around. I am sure it shouldn't be that hard to contact a Hertz office & get some information. I find it ridiculous that there is a number to an Hertz office that no one answers the phone or returns voice messages. I must say, not sure if I'll be a returning customer after this debacle.  The Customer Service placed an Request Order 9 days ago & NOTHING!!! Hopefully someone will look into this office at the Memphis Airport. Get a phone number the staff will answer to get help/assistance. A TOTAL FAILURE in customer service & management. read more

We rented a car from Hertz for pickup in Memphis and had to switch our cars as the first one smelled like cigars/weed (people, stop smoking in rental cars!). Luis took care of us and was very polite and helpful! He understood the issue and switched us right away. Thank you so much for making the experience a better one, Luis! read more

Presidents Circle reservation with no cars available. If you're not going to have cars, don't accept the reservation.

DO NOT RESERVE A RENTAL FROM THIS BUSINESS! I paid in full for a rental from this Hertz, via Hotwire.com. The car has been reserved for at or about a month. I get here today and am being forced to wait for a car. The person at the desk stated that there is a 1-2 hour wait for cars, but had me to sign my name to a list that already had about 8 names on it. I don't see a 1-2 hour wait in that. It looks like I will be stuck here waiting on a vehicle for quite some time. This is very unprofessional behavior, especially if you already paid in full for your vehicle and it has been reserved for at or about a month. DO NOT RESERVE A RENTAL FROM THIS BUSINESS! If I could give this place zero stars I would. There are a bunch of irritated people here in the same situation. Hertz needs to do better! read more

Horrible! Young lady, who apparently was the lead for the night, was extremely rude, incompetent, aggressive, and preferred to text and have personal phone calls than to help the customers in front on her. Not to mention, I had a reservation and they were no cars. Why does Hertz accept the reservation when they didn't have to car type I reserved? Unacceptable! We even asked for a courtesy upgrade as once they appeared to have SUVs available. This request was denied by front desk staff and manager on site who appeared to be intoxicated. We were forced to cancel our reservation. I'll never use Hertz again. read more

Worst experience AGAIN at Hertz Memphis airport. Last time they left before our delayed flight landed even though their policy says they will stay up to an hour late. Today our flight got cancelled due to weather and so we called to change our reservation from a 3 day rental to 2 day rental and they told us it would cost MORE! Asked numerous times to speak to manager but representative refused to get one. kept saying it was their "policy". what a crock of bull crap. Also guy was hard to understand, extremely unhelpful. We had points to use so we booked with them again. Bad idea! We have used Enterprise at Memphis airport-they were FANTASTIC-I recommend using them and NEVER using Hertz!! read more

Probably have cars 500+ times all over the country and this was easily the worst experience. Presidents Circle area was out of cars, was given the keys to a car by a Hertz employee. Drove to the exit gate and waited, then was told the car was reserved and I had to go back and get a different car. I asked what car to take, and they said first I had to drive the car I had all the way back and repark it for them. Employees were unsympathetic to me saying I'd been traveling 8+ hours and it was 11pm at night. Then once I got back to the to leave again, the employee there closed the booth because her shift was over and I'd have to wait for the manager which took several minutes. Overall employees were rude and disorganized, not a great combination read more

Do not rent here. As a Gold member, I have NEVER had to wait in a line, outside in a garage to get a car because they have ZERO CARS. Staff was rude, and not remotely helpful. Apparently this has been an ongoing issue here in Memphis (per both staff and other renters in line who were questioning why they came back to this location again), since covid people have had to wait in lines to get a car in Memphis....... The line was 25 people deep. I waited 40 mins for a car, and I was only the 6th person in line - I feel bad for those who were in the back of the line (especially if they had already waited in a line at the counter). Next time I come through Memphis I'll be renting with another rental company, and I haven't done that in well over a decade, but when I have a two hour drive ahead of me the last thing I want to do is waste almost an hour waiting for a car. read more

This company needs to do better! I made my reservation 2 weeks in advance. I fly into Memphis international airport, and Hertz does not have any cars available.....in spite of my reservation. I'm 5 hours away from where I need to be. I lost money on my hotel bc I won't be there. I had to pay more money for a more local hotel. I have my child with me. It takes them days to refund me and I can't get another car from anywhere. I'm literally stranded in the middle of no where bc Hertz is a careless company. None of the employees seem to care, as one of them said "I just work here"..... such a horrible representation of a company. I'm stranded, my trip is a waste, and I lost over $1000 bc I can't get to where I need to go. Never again! read more

i travel for a living and rent cars weekly, mostly from Hertz. This particular location is simply terrible. The staff simply don't car, they don't have cars ready, their service is bad, their cars are bad, their attitude is bad. Look at all the other dismal reviews and believe what we are saying. The car is fine, so that earns Hertz three stars. Beyond that, the Memphis airport Hertz store is an exercise in ineptitude. I'm a Gold Club member, so pickup should be straightforward and painless. But that's not the case here. The signage varies from misleading to flat-out wrong. There is nobody onsite to ask for clarification. I reached out to @Hertz via Twitter (X), which was also unhelpful. Bad management all the way around. Avoid if possible. read more

We were in town for a family reunion, and unfortunately, everyone who reserved a car at Hertz on Friday or Saturday was out of luck. No reservations were honored; either they oversold or just reserved like mad without keeping track of their cars. What is the purpose of a reservation if... nothing is reserved. One guy said he had been waiting for a car he reserved for three hours. We eventually gave up and paid more at Avis, who was able to help us easily. Hertz Memphis's airport complaint 12/22/24 is a disaster-Hertz is not like it use to be! They provide extremely poor service at pick up, exit and return there were problems- no attendance at car return entrance. You figure things out on your own. Only one person at the service desk. People bringing car back and complaining on vehicle problems. Only one person handling reservations and returns. Some complaining dropped off car and was emailed receipt but billed the wrong return time and was charged wrong-good that he took a picture but he was inconvenienced by having to wait more that 20 minutes to speak to the one attendant. He was a "gold" member. We waited an hour to get a paper copy of our receipt after which we were told to go back and take a picture of our mileage. Waited another 20 minutes for the receipt. Needless to say we will not rent from Hertz again. read more

Believe the reviews. Watch Seinfeld about car rentals. How do you take a reservation and not honor it. Jumped through all their hoops. "You can avoid the lines and walk right to your car". Bull crap. When you land at Memphis you have no other choice. The only thing I can think is that local folks use these as daily drivers and either extend their rental or don't bring em back. Terrible. Customer Service is awful. Rented a car when I flew into the airport and the car was damaged, seat had a cigarette burn, and the guy (I do know his name) said they could not offer another vehicle at that time, even though they had a fleet of cars in the garage. The location was to stay open until midnight. When I returned around 10:00 p.m. to return the vehicle there was no attendant and the booth was closed. They charged me for an extra day because they said they could not verify that I had returned the car the previous day. Cameras everywhere - Duh! Anywho, I contacted the corporate office and they got it all figured out when I suggested that there are security cameras at the property, look at the camera. Go figure. Another lady, poor dear lady, had just flown in and was picking up her car at 10:00 p.m. and because they had closed she was not able to take possession of her car. She sat there and cried on the bench. It was so sad. Hertz, yes! This location, NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!! read more

The service was absolutely despicable with the manager supporting and behaving in a manner that was clearly not leadership behavior. I have rented only from hertz and have frequented this location monthly. This time I was there to rush to get my son at college as I was notified by police of attempted suicide. When I got to the counter after waiting a long period while the manager sat around doing absolutely nothing but watch one employee work and the lovely car attendant be extremely helpful. I was told I needed to show proof of insurance which I have never provided previously. I am told I can't rent the car without it and it's the policy. I'm all about the rules and policy, however nothing on my reservation prompted me to bring my insurance card as I leave that in my vehicle at home. The manager said too bad and I said there's nothing in writing regarding needing proof of insurance and that I will need to pay for insurance??????? I spoke up and said it's your job as manager of this facility to protect the clients and take that up with corporate as to why that new policy is in fact never been required previously but now it is but is not stated anywhere I'm rental agreement. From that interaction, the manager ripped my rental agreement away and refused to give me a car! The car attendant employee said that was unfair to the manager and you can't do that to customers. The behavior and lack of ability to problem solve without anger was unacceptable leadership let alone customer service. Lastly, I have been charged $580.00 for my rental car that I didn't receive and will now have to contact customer service of the card I l The manager of this location had zero ability or equipped to how calmly handle this issue. PSA: DO NOT USE HERTZ CAR RENTAL. And here's why..... Buckle up kids....it's a fun one. Another mechanical issue with my truck and we decided to get a car rental while it's in the shop because of our work schedules. We had to reserve one from the Memphis airport location because the Southhaven one doesn't work for the business hours we needed. So we go there tonight and get told that they overbooked because of a convention and such in Memphis and have NO cars available despite my (and others) having a reservation which means they should have the car!. BUT...if I waited 3 hours I'd get a car. So my wife and I went and got me something to eat, dropped me off, and I waited....in the lobby.....for over 2.5 hours. Finally I went to the outside office to see what's going on and was told that they called all the "wait list" people. I told them you did not. I was out there waiting the whole time and never got my name called, or my phone number called. That went a round or two but they just kept insisting they checked to see if anyone in the area outside the rental company counters was called. They did not. So I waited some more and watched several upset people storm off because they got told the same story about overbooking and no cars. To cut a long story somewhat short.....about 7 of us left at the end got told that there were no more cars available or coming available tonight, the cars in the lot all had mechanical issues and couldn't be rented and we are all just out of luck. Despite having a reservation and in some cases already paying for the car. So at 9:30pm I had to have my wife get out of bed and come get me because Hertz screwed up did not take care of their customers. One group was from Europe and had reserved their car more than a week ago. They got screwed too. We will NEVER use Hertz again. I called corporate immediately and got our money refunded. Tomorrow I'm calling Customer Service. This was just ridiculous. read more
