I don't know if it's just this location or Hertz in general but this place is awful. We came in to pick up a car that I had reserved weeks ago, they said there were no cars available and we'd have to wait for someone to make a return. This made us late for plans we had later in the day (non-refundable tickets). I also overheard another customer saying that his Hertz rental down on the side of the highway with his wife and family inside. He had to take an Uber and no one from Hertz emergency services helped him. He came in to ask the associates to call corporate because no one was answering when he called and the Hertz associate did absolutely nothing for him. Customer service was HORRIBLE!!! We had PREPAID for a vehicle and when we arrived she said I needed two forms of federal ID. I presented my drivers license, the card I booked the rental with , my AMEX and proof of insurance. This wasn't enough and she said we couldn't take the vehicle. I called for a refund and the representative said he had never heard of this before and said we should have been able to rent the car. DO NOT go to this location!!!! read more

This place is an absolute joke. Multiple times I have tried to rent here, and multiple times they have not had cars available to fulfill the reservation. The front desk staff are rude and condescending when they deal with you in these situations. It's almost as if it's your fault they don't have your car available! While the car was fine and the return went great, picking up the car was a mess. Part of it was my fault - trying to rent under 25 with a debit card instead of a credit card (a new Hertz rule according to one of the 4 customer services reps I had to call). On arrival, when the rep found out I was under 25 (by 5 months) my service took a turn for the worst. I had to call Hertz Worldwide Customer Service even though I was standing IN a Hertz office just to switch my payment method. While on the phone, the two customer service reps in-store had the LOUDEST conversation while sitting 3 feet apart and I couldn't hear the quiet woman on the phone in this tiny office and couldn't go outside because of the city traffic. I then received a bunch of confusing and conflicting information from the rep in-store - she told me I would need a credit check and two forms of identification - once I got off the phone that was never brought up again. Every time I asked a question, I was treated like an idiot even though it was obviously my first time renting a car. She talked way too fast and threw out a bunch of numbers with no explanation. It was a bunch of talking with no information. Overall, would not go to this location ever again - the taxes are too high and horrible customer service. Just rented a car from this Hertz last week for a business related day-trip. Since I was driving around 300 miles or so round-trip, I inquired about the possibility of getting a Prius, even though it wasn't listed on their website. I was told they don't keep and of those vehicles in their lots.. only at the airport, but if I called again the day before my rental they would do their best to get me one. So I show up on Friday morning, and there's a Prius waiting for me - awesome (averaged about 50 mpg!). A couple days after returning the car, I realized I had left my digital camera in the car (I had just gotten it that week so wasn't used to carrying it around) and called up Hertz on the off-chance someone had actually turned it in. Sure enough, it was waiting for me in their lost and found! Honest employees + super friendly customer service = 5 stars. read more

On July 16th I picked up a compact car at Midway airport. The first car had lots of dents and a ripped seat, so I requested another car. The clerk said all compact cars are "rough" and have "high mileage." She said I would have to wait if I wanted another compact car, so I waited. The second car also had dents and the tires were not great, but it was in seemingly much better condition than the first one, so after about an hour I left the airport. I had to stop to buy a gift at a shopping center near the airport and was to then head to my destination, which was an hour away. While driving, the car made weird noises as if the gears were shifting or grinding, but I did not initially think much of it. I had to drive another hour or so and wanted to remain focused on the road. Once I entered the city, the car began to slow and the engine light came on. I stalled, called roadside assistance and was then able to drive the car to a nearby hotel to be safe. I never made it to my event for which I flew in. I was on hold for almost two hours! It is now 1:32am. My journey started around 4:30pm!!! It took nine hours for the car to get towed, me to finally get a car that was clean and with no dents and to get a meals, My new rental car required that I take a Lyft to go to another (O'hare) airport to get the car, After returning to the hotel, I learned there was a Hertz on site! I missed my event, had to check into a hotel, did not get lunch or dinner until after almost 1am, am exhausted and realized I could have saved two hours! There are so many other frustrating things that happened, but this is enough to get the point across. I am disappointed with Hertz! The clerk who took care of me on the roadside assistance call was great. The O'Hare rental car manager was great! Now I must wait to see if I will be compensated. read more

You win some, you lose some, but overall pretty average. A couple of blocks from where I live and have rented cars from them several times. Staff is always super friendly and tries to be helpful, but they definitely aren't the fastest kids in town. A couple of times I've been given the free upgrades on cars, being upgraded to the SUV or a sports car isn't bad and always a plus. But gas is never as full as they say it is, I swear most people fill up on the way in from Indiana with the cheap prices and by the time they get in there is 2 gallons less than full. I've even been giving a car that has an 1/8th of a tank left and am stuck filling it up. For the guy that stops at the Citgo coming into town to leave it with a full tank of gas, i'm disappointed. The cars are pretty good on the mileage factor, but for as little as they are driven, i'm surprised how beat up they were. I've rented several times and there would be pretty good scrapes in the car, issues with the car stereo, and even issues with vibrations. It is, what it is, the only thing that made me pretty upset a couple of times is you get a car without cruise control. Most times I rent a car, I'm going to be in it for at least 4 hours, and to get stuck with a cheap car that has no cruise, definitely can't enjoy renting it. read more

I have to rent a car for business trips to the suburbs every two-three weeks. This Hertz is always my first choice. The service is fantastic, and the one time I had an minor issue with my car (no ice scraper/snow brush in the trunk and it snowed twice during my 4 day rental) they were VERY apologetic and offered me a partial credit. The only downside (and it happens with some frequency) is that this location is usually more expensive than the Hertz place closer to my house, sometimes by $20+/day. The service is great, but not that great, so when there's that much of a price difference, I rent from the Wrigleyville Hertz. read more

Awful service. The young woman at the counter is the opposite of customer service. Rude and clueless. I showed up at 3 pm after reserving the car for noon. Hertz has never given me a problem before if I show up a couple of hours late. Not this time. The woman gave me a hard time about whether the car was available before handing me the key. Then came the part about parking. The location closes at 7 pm and has no drop return. If you return it to another location, you pay $15 or $40 (if the airport). Parking in the area overnight (if you want to wait to return the car to the same location the next morning) can cost around $50. So you may spend as much on parking overnight as on the actual rental. Walked in to a line of people and we were told that it was a 20 minute wait for our reservation to be filled. An hour and a half later, after several people had left, we were told it would still be 45 more minutes. The clerks seemed frazzled and stressed, and rightly so- it didn't seem like they had much control of whether cars showed up or not, but they didn't offer much conciliation to their waiting guests either, almost like this was a frequent occurrence. We left and cancelled our service, and we ended up having to cancel our plans for a day trip. We will never use this hertz location again, since it cannot be guaranteed we would get a car if we did. read more

I usually rent from Hertz because it is the preferred company for my work. However, this past experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I had realized I left my ear buds in the front console about 45 minutes after I dropped it off. I immediately called and they said they could hold the car for me. I live about 20 minutes away, walking. When I got there, the car had already been cleaned and no earbuds turned up. They say they're not responsible for items left in the car after you return them- but I didn't realize that meant your personal items are also up for grabs by employees if you leave them. Or I guess they just disappeared into thin air. I will not be returning to Hertz and I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Showed up to what I thought was a confirmed rental reservation only to be told there wasn't a single car available, and the two women at the location could not have been less helpful. They weren't even willing or able (?) to cancel the reservation from the computers in front of them. I got the best customer service from Andy for setting up my car rental because my car is on the shop. She told me, "Your baby (car) is on a car washed and being overhaul!" "You still have good looks, your safe, and you will try a new car: nothing beats that!" She made my entire day and took off all my stress from the accident. Poor spot for pleasant staff. The garage you pull in when the gate is down is horrible. Stool was in the stairwell against the wall, left by someone who took a crap, the smell was horrid and no one outside of the Hertz staff were around to report this concern. Be careful taking the stairs, anyone could be in there, and u can't see until you turn the corner. read more

BOOK ANY OTHER LOCATION! Or better yet, just used a different alternative to these guys. This is the worst car rental experience I have ever had. I prebooked this rental. I booked for one week at a rate of $184.70. When arriving to the location, I was told they do not have the car I booked and would not allow me to refund the prebooking. The only thing they could do is give me another car for an additional $15 a day (an additional $135.00 plus taxes and other fees, so double the original price). I called customer service who told me they would price adjust the additional charges once I completed my rental. Upon completing my rental, the billing department would no longer honor price adjusting the rental back to what it was supposed to be saying "they don't have the ability to." These were the same people who told me I should call once completing the rental. They also had not been discussing with the location and didn't know what time they close or where to leave the car (telling me to return before 8pm and to enter the garage and go to the 4th floor for drop off. When there was nowhere to drop off, customer service told me to leave the car in the overflow lot, and drop the keys in the morning). Once I went back in the morning, the local girl who had nothing but attitude was trying to make me pay an additional $60 outside of the receipt to get the car out of the overflow lot. During all this they still had a sign up that said "park in the overflow lot" because they were at capacity. This entire experience has been one of the worst I have ever had from pick up to drop off and it's clear Hertz is trying to scam customers in a time of uncertainty for the world. Knowing we have no option but to accept upgrade fees or lose your prepayment. I've never felt so scammed in my life and initially I thought Hertz would make it right, but their billing department overseas (in the Caribbean as I was told) of course can't do anything about it like they promised. Every person you speak with tells you something different, and the local employees treat you as if you aren't paying for their service. Do not book from this location, and if possible, choose another company entirely. I wish I could give negative stars, the local staff is on an insane power trip. I also wish I could post pictures of my receipts and the signs to the overflow lot. I've never left a review before for any negative experience, that's how much I think of this company. read more

I initially made the mistake of booking a car with a different car rental company. When I left that place without a car on Friday morning, I called Expedia for the nearest car rental place and they directed me here. After a quick call to them - and I was nearly in tears, I was so frustrated with my morning thus far - I walked 2 blocks south to Hertz. I wrestled clumsily throught the door with my bags and the man at the desk - Kevin - asked kindly if he could help me. I replied somewhat brusquely that I got it and then I just stood there, my mind momentarily empty. I'm sure I looked beat down. Kevin smiled at me and asked what he could do to make my morning better. I gave him my confirmation number and we began the process of readying the car. I idly flipped through the car catalog on the desk, pausing momentarily over a picture of a cherry red Mustang, complete with racing stripes. I grin in spite of my crappy morning and continue flipping through the pages. A few minutes pass and he picks up the phone and starts talking to someone in the garage. He looks up and me and says, "If I can get the Mustang, do you want it?" My jaw drops. I tell him I can't afford to rent the Mustang, but thanks anyway. He says, no, I got it right here...no additional charge, we can do this for you. He says he just really wanted to do something to make my day better. I stammer through some half-hearted mumblings about how it's so flashy and my dad is going to freak out, etc. and he hangs up the phone and hands me the rental agreement. He tells me to have a great day and to NOT speed in that thing. I numbly make my way to the garage and they're running the (cherry red) Mustang through the car wash. The woman in the garage - Tiffany - is the same woman who talked to me on the phone earlier. She says she's glad they could help me out and chuckles as they run the car though for a second time. She also warns me not to speed and reminds me that people will be looking at me, because it's a fast, red car. I giggle and after I sling my stuff into the trunk, I depart for the highway. Not 10 seconds after leaving the ramp, a cab swings out in front of me. The horn works, he he he...at the next light, I power it around the offending hack and head out onto 90. I set the cruise to a reasonable 58mph and enjoyed the stares. Kinda sucked getting passed like crazy in a Mustang, but hey - they did warn me not to speed, and for good reason; LOTS of troopers out there this past weekend. I was a hit when I pulled into my parents' driveway, and as I left my class reunion on Saturday night, the former drama geekgirl particularly enjoyed breezing past the agape former football team to get into my Mustang. It was pretty sweet. Returning the car wasn't an issue, and the girl at the front desk - Andy - was just as kind as the others. I will be using Hertz exclusively in the future, and also diverting all business previously earmarked for the other car rental company who sucks (I Yelped it) to Hertz. Arrived at location for my reservation, but they didn't have any cars. Sent me to another Hertz office "just a half mile away" which was actually much further. Car had little gas. No remote to lock car -- middle of winter, door locks repeatedly froze. I called the rental office about the problems, they said to call corporate. Called corporate, they said to call the rental office. Throughout the process, no one said "Sorry this hasn't gone well, we'll fix it." No one seemed to care. read more

Poor customer service. I reserved a car for the same day at the site, which I received a reservation confirmation number. I show up at this particular location and informed that no car is available. Not only is this an inconvenience since I had to be dropped out, but the staff are rude and have no customer service training. It is a "not my fault/problem" attitude. Hertz RUINED our ski trip! DO NOT TRUST HERTZ! We reserved a Minivan the day prior to our ski trip. I received a confirmation email with the reservation and details. Apparently Hertz tried to call me several times, minutes before closing that Friday evening. By the time I was able to return the call they had already closed. Next morning I took an Uber there to pick up the minivan to be surprised that they had none. They had confirmed my reservation without actually having the vehicle. They might have tried to call, but nobody bothered to leave a message, sent a text or email. Because of Hertz, me and my 6 friends were stranded trying to figure out what to do, ruining our trip. I rechecked that same morning and the Minivan was still being offered in Expedia and Priceline. Thanks for being "sorry" Hertz. I would not trust or use Hertz anymore. read more

So I rarely write reviews for anything, but I am so dumfounded by the service at this Hertz location I feel obligated to warn people. I booked my car reservation a week prior to my travel date and had no issues with the reservation process. I called the day of my reservation to see if it would be possible to pick up the car a little bit earlier. They said that they would not be able to accomodate my early pick up request which is fine since it was a busy holiday weekend. However, they proceeded to tell me that the may not be able to honor my reservation at all! Apparently there were already numerous people that were waiting for cars for reservations they had hours ago. They offered to shuttle me to the airport location which is the opposite direction I needed to go. Again, this was a busy holiday weekend and I did not feel like adding another two hours in traffic to my travel time. I asked if they were optimistic about getting more cars in by my travel time, and they said I should just go to the airport. I told them if I decided to cancel my reservation, I would do it online when or if I found another option. I was able to find another rental place that I could get a car from, but the rates were now $100 more than they would have been if I had booked with the alternative place to begin with, but I had no option at this point. I booked with the other rental company and then went online to cancel my existing Hertz reservation. What did I find? They had already taken the liberty to cancel my reservation! What if I had not been able to find an alternative?!?! I will never, ever, ever book with Hertz again. I typically go with National or Enterprise and I will not stray from them again. read more

I rent a cars all the time for work (~3 times per month). I consistently pick Hertz over others because of the service and ease of renting. This location, however, failed to deliver. I rented a car about an hour ago, and after driving less than a mile, I get the "no fuel" warning! What the hell, no full tank of gas? I check the rental agreement, and it says that the car had a FULL tank!! In order to not get charged for an entire tank of gas (17 gallons x $8 per gallon = $136 total), I have to spend 30+ minutes on the phone with customer service to figure it out. VERY inconvenient, what a clusterf*ck. I strongly recommend trying a different location, or different company altogether read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Rented a car there on 10/15 and was overcharged $30/day or $90 total. Today is 10/29 and while Hertz corporate agrees that I was inadvertently overcharged they still haven't refunded my money and say it will take another 3-5 business days just to get an updated receipt. Recently, I returned my rental car to this location and had a horrible experience. The guy in the rental car lot was on his cell phone having a heated conversation with someone on the other line. He made no attempt to come help me return the car or gave me instructions on where to park it. This cell phone conversation went on for a good 10 minutes as I patiently waited in the car. After he got off the phone, he yelled at me to just leave the car there and he would take care of it and then made another call. This was some of the most horrible service that I have received. If you are going to rent a car- my recommendation is not to rent it from Hertz! I've always had great success with Budget or Enterprise. read more
