Dr Chris is very professional but her front office person is very unprofessional. When I showed up with my dog for her teeth cleaning appointment, the woman argued with me that I had the wrong date. She told me that date was the month before which was impossible because I had surgery at that time and couldn't drive. She continued to say it over and over again. When I returned home and called to try to resolve the issue, she actually told me and I quote, "I didn't wake up this morning to accommodate you." I'd like to start by saying that Hernando Animal Hospital was our veterinarian for almost 18 years. Throughout the years they've cared for 6 of our dogs and a couple of our cats. The simplest way to say it is that the veterinarian is passive aggressive and likes to make back-handed comments to her customers. The kind of comments that have you walking out wondering "wait, what did she mean by that?" It's happened a couple of times throughout the 18 years I've been a customer, but this last time would be a final straw for me. I will not be disrespected, especially as a customer who gets her dogs all the shots, all the things, all the time and on time, and will no longer be made to feel like an irresponsible pet owner by her. On a side note, I will say, I miss the front desk staff as they are so kind. They recognize me when I come in, they know and remember my pets. I wish I had had the same relationship with her, but it would never happen, even after 18 years. read more

I was recommended here to Dr. Gretzinger by my friend Teresa at my church. Let me tell you, she gave the right recommendation. The staff here is very kind. The doctor is super kind and efficient and so is the staff. It didn't break the bank bringing my cat Marmallade jelly here. He had a number of problems and I had to put him down. Dr. Gretzinger was very kind and told me I was making the right decision. It is never easy letting go of an animal you love. This is my new veterinarian, and very close to my home. Like my prior veterinarian VCA, I had to reschedule due to my own poor health. This place was very understanding about that. This is an amazing place. Everyone here does their job well & are very pleasant from the receptionist to the assistants and the veterinarian herself. I have two big dogs and they absolutely love them. They are truly very accommodating and will do their best to get you an appointment very quickly especially with sick pets. They truly know what they are doing & Dr. Gretzinger is really looking out for not just your pet but also looking out for your pocketbook. Thank goodness for that! My cat was limping she put him on the floor ,he walked,because he was scared not limping, she said nothing wrong. Very superficial exam.no pain meds unless I showed her a video of him limping.two days later I took video,showed her.she gave me pain med.four days later I had to take him to my regular(far away) vet she dx him with snake bite, drained abscess.gave antibiotics and pain meds, anti inflammatorys.i will never go back to Hernando animal hospital.i wouldn't have taken him if he wasn't sick.i don't think she believed me Vets around here don't do their job even though they are expensive. read more

The experience my dog had at this facility was not good. The receptionist was nice but the veterinarian and staff ( 2 girls cutting his nails) were not. How can my dog or myself feel safe with them if they don't say anything to welcome and make him feel safe. They take him to the back saying they were weighing him. They come back a few minutes later and tell me his weight. Then they ask if I wanted his nails cut and I say yes and that I had asked for that Prior when calling to make the appointment. Nest thing I knew a girl leaves and a man comes instead and put on a muzzle. Is that necessary I said . Yes he growled. He yelped I said I had checked his teeth before I adopted him at the animal shelter. I knew how to check because worked closely with veterinarian and friend was a veterinarian. The staff at the shelter cut his nails also before he was adopted. He was so good and didn't even flutter. That's how gentle and easy this dog is. The vet never even checked his teeth and if he needed cleaning. He is ten. I asked for a senior checkup. She responded by saying she wasn't putting her staff at risk which meant she didn't check him in back during the minutes he was gone to be weighed. There is something wrong with this place. My gut said something isn't right. Why I did this review. People don't do them because they don't know how to do them Or don't when it's negative. It's helpful for people like me who is new to Florida and rely on reviews to make important decisions looking at feedback. I've been bringing my dog and cat there for years. The whole staff is wonderful and I can't say enough about the level of care we received when my older dog got cancer. After a lot of care and second opinions, we had to put him to sleep. The entire experience with Dr. Chris was compassionate and even though it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do I'm glad it was done here and handled the best way possible. I'm so thankful for Hernando Animal Hospital and will always bring my pets here. read more

They are happy, healthy and all procedures went extremely well with a loving caring staff keeping me updated and even calling the next day to check on dogs. BEWARE of this Animal Hospital!! I can't State this enough. They have no bedside manner when it comes to you or your pet the lady of front is the most uncompassionate person who can't run a front desk to save her life. If she has one person in front of her she's all frazzled. She needs to retire ASAP. I had to put my cat down they wouldn't let me back in the room all because I didn't have an appointment and I was the only person in the office was told I could make an appointment and come back to put her down and then I could be with her or I could do it today and not be with her because I didn't have an appointment when I was the only one there please take your pets somewhere else this Animal hospital truly sucks I would give them a negative star if I could also I don't think they like cats there in my opinion read more

After struggling to make the decision to have my deaf/blind/crippled 19yo dachshund euthanized I made the call to his life long vet, Hernando Animal Hospital. They could not see us that day but had us come in the following morning. Upon arrival we were put in a room and they said they needed to take Ozzy in the other room to start an IV. 20 min later staff popped their head in and explained they were having problems getting the iv. An hour passed... I found the receptionist and said I was becoming concerned. A few min later the vet came in with ozzy and plopped him down on the table and said "I hear your getting impatient with us, what do you want us to do??? You can go to another vet if your want!" I was floored. I asked what the problem was and again they couldn't get and IV. I asked if he could have an IM ans was told NO. I asked, as patiently as I could, that they please just try to help us help end ozzy's suffering. The vet went in back with ozzy again. Another hour passed and the vet again walked in and handed Ozzy back to us and said she couldn't help and suggested the emery clinic later that night . I was floored. I left with Ozzy now all bandaged up and bleeding from his mouth. I found another vet in town who was compassionate, took us right in, gave ozzy an IM and when he was asleep put him down while he rested in my lap. They gave ozzy the respect he deserved and just so heart broken that I put ozzy through the horrible treatment he received from Hernando Animal Hospital read more

I cannot say enough good things about this veterinary practice. We were staying in the area for about a month from up north. My Yorkie got very bad diarrhea on a Friday night, of course and did not improve over the weekend. I called Hernando Veterinary Hospital first thing Monday morning and they got me in at 11:45 a.m. that same day! The office is beautiful, immaculate and very nicely appointed. The entire staff, especially Stephanie, Janet and Ken made us feel right at home and taken care of. Dr. Chris was caring and thorough. They ran some tests and she gave me a diagnosis and medication that should have him feeling better by morning. I was extremely impressed with the whole experience and would recommend them highly. read more

My dog of 13 years went into respiratory failure. His normal vet would not see him because there were no available appointments, but this vet got us in right away. The veterinarian, and the technician were so professional, and so kind. Our dog ended up passing away when they took off the oxygen, but they let us back to sit with him while he passed. We loved our dog, Eli, like he was one of our kids. We got him cremated. The hospital took care of all the arrangements for our family. After Eli passed, they sent us a card in the mail of Condolences. That really touched our hearts. We still have two other dogs that we love very much, and continue to take them to this vet. The veterinarian is very knowledgeable, and the staff is extremely kind. They always take the time to answer all our questions, and I personally ask a lot of questions. MUST READ ALL THE WAY UNLESS ITS OK THATS YOUR VET THINKS THE ANSER FOR YOUR CONCERN IS PUTTING YOUR FUR BABY UNDER JUST TO SHUT YOU UP FROM ASKING CONCERNED QUESTIONS!!!! If there were only negative stars I could give. I can not believe the audacity of this woman so called "Doctor" Chris Gretzinger. I felt the need to hug and apologize to my fur buddy when I left and took everything I had to eloquently restrain my comments for this review. First, I took my cats here and after multiple attempts to treat for what I knew and saw in their stool was worms and even conveyed I "SAW" them moving around in their stool but doctor said she saw nothing. So after over 6 month of this my cats now continue to wheeze and cough and I'm sure now are stuck with life long bronchitis (thanks to lung worm gone untreated. It was not a pretty experience (with blood in vomit and in stool). But beyond my good sense brought my fur puppy here multiple times to clear up what I am told is yeast infection in his ear (Packed full of dark wax to the brim). In addition had breakouts around the mouth which I was repeatedly told was nothing and he continues to get rashes and scabs around his whole mouth. It's to where he can go two seconds without crying out or shaking his head due to how uncomfortable his ears hurt and even family and friends always notice after a year and comment, his ears "STILL" hurt this poor baby. "Are you sure you're doing everything you can? Have you taken him to the vet again? What does your vet say? I'm sure there is 'Something' that can be addressed. It's not just 'Nothing'. It's 'something'." So I brought him back in this morning and been given the same. exact. treatment. In the room with the vet my dogs obvious (from 1 to 10 is a steady noticeable 8) discomfort. This vet has the nerve to say there's nothing in his ears. Dr.ChrisGretzinger, the only reason his ears are even mildly clean from the black yeast .. or whatever his situation is; is because I painstaking clean it regularly. But as I mentioned I can only clean the surface and past the close inner section of where I can clean it is literally "PACKED DOWN" with grime. And his obvious "CONSTANT" pain tells me it is more than just a dirty ear. And now he has vivid green slim dripping almost constantly from his nose and has fevers this past week. My first conclusion matches my first gut instinct about you which is 1. You are obviously and undoubtedly physically blind and emotionally unreachable and with your age and other INNAPPROPRIATE PASSIVE AGRESSIVE REMARK ABOUT PUTTING HIM UNDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:??!??!?! when I merely and kindly retorted that we've given him the same treatment 2 x now going on 3rd with it only getting worse. You didn't even lead with, well perhaps it's this ____and that may result in having to put him under. YOU JUST WENT THERE with your passive agressive high pitch voice like I'm too unintelligent to notice (perhaps because you think you can get away with it because I'm young and showed up with joggers on) like you were trying to shut me up when I was a very kind, pleasant albeit rightfully concerned furparent. HOW DARE YOU. If you love your fur baby and want a doctor that doesn't have their degree so far up their ass that they've forgotten to treat their customers and fellow human beings with RESPECT and their fur babbles with PROPER care (So far beyond that expectation ... now its verging utterly neglectful with long term repercussions that I'm sure wont keep this vet up at night) ....IF ALL of this is ok... Then sure. This is the place to waste your time taking your fur baby... I mean, number and dollar signs). The receptionist and vet assistances were sweet but this vet has GOT TO GO. I'm home with no sooner finding a cure for my uncomfortable puppy and normally a kind hearted person ... I just hope this review saves you from wasting time getting the care I'm sure your loved one needs. Our babies are just numbers and a degree doesn't mean a DAMN thing to me if its not backed up. We have been taking our pets to Hernando Animal Hospital for over 12 years and cannot say enough good about the entire staff. The take care of our pets as though they were there own. Just recently we had our dog Kali very sick and they tried all they could and showed so much love to her we could not imagine going anywhere else with our pets. In the end we at least got a couple more weeks with Kali before she went over the rainbow bridge. read more

my first shiu had cushings desease and the doctor G never told me ..she also could have given her meds to make the pain more bearable .She then put my dog down and did not give her what they call a cocktail to relax her before the final injection..it was horrible..they fought her and held her down ..I felt as tho I had betrayed my baby ..than my second shit---zu had a huge tumor in is mouth and I took him to her 3 times..she pulled all of his teeth and never saw the tumor..it was huge.on the roof of his mouth..he suffered so..we then had to take him to another hospital to have him put down..where they were very kind and gave him the so cocktail before the final in jection..he went peacefully..please do not subject your animals to this place..it is heartbreaking to see them suffer at that clinic...my heart still aches..we have a new vet that is wonderful..God bless you all. read more
