It is my absolute favorite place to get ice cream and their milk is top-tier. Every time I go, I take a cooler to bring chocolate milk home with me and whole milk home for family. Even if you don't live in the immediate area, this could be a fun little outing for a date or family. Since I have been coming to Riverbend, they have updated and added playground equipment, so kids can play and watch the cows in the pasture. You can either sit on the porch and watch the cows from there or go down to their seating area by the playground. There's also plenty of seating indoors if it's just too hot or the weather isn't great. Staff are kind and attentive and I never have to wait long. My favorite flavor is The Flying Cow made with Biscoff. Definitely go if you get the chance!

I cannot recall if there was outdoor seating. You will see a counter display of their beautiful chocolates, pastries and gelatos. The server very friendly and helpful. She gave suggestions and answered the many questions we had about some of the drink options on the menu. My friends went for the 1 dip Affogato and I opted for a scoop of cappuccino gelato. My serving was just enough to satisfy my taste for coffee. It was very creamy and delicious. I would definitely order it again, but I would rather try some of the other yummies on the menu. Yes, I could easily earn a duchess title if I lived near by! I will be back someday. Give them a try!

I was greeted promptly by both the delectable selection and the woman running the shop. The truffles and fudge are first to greet you with tantalizing flavors and colors. Then on to the sky high cupcakes and cakes along with plenty of flavors of gelato. The do not miss part is the cheesecake variety on the end. The rest are an appetizer and the cheesecakes are the mouthwatering main. All of it pairs nicely with a variety of coffees, shakes, floats, and Italian sodas. I come into town one or two times a year to visit family and friends, and I usually have my favorite places picked out to visit while here. The Gondolier is now on my list of must visits!

And nothing in this shopping center is easy to find unless it's the supermarket. Also, while walking, I asked a woman the exact location of the Italian Ice place, she told me, "Around the corner on the left and it will be right there." I ended up at a dumpster behind a brick wall. However, I did not give up, did not get mad at this strange woman (chalked it up to dyslexia), and went in the opposite direction and arrived. This place is super clean, which is expected for a new store but it's a plus nonetheless. The service was excellent and I tried a couple of flavors. That is literal because the ice in the photo was for my son and my ice (forgot to take a picture) was Cherry and Vanilla Chip. I had never heard of Vanilla Chip but it was refreshing. What really popped though was accidentally mixing the Cherry with the Vanilla Chip. This had the strong flavor of the Cherry with the refreshing Vanilla while mixing in chocolate chips. I guess that would be Cherry Vanilla Chip. I can't really think of any negatives. If I'm really reaching, when I first turned to walk in, it's just a white counter wall. Maybe some kind of decoration or a banner there would be more appealing but nobody really cares about a counter wall; they want a tasty ice at a fair price--and they will definitely find that here. Highly recommended!

Service was courteous and prompt. I opted for the empanada which had egg, potatoes with just a mild kick to it. It was warm and the crust was flaky and very tasty. My friend ordered an apple pastry which was also good and large. Wish I took a picture of them. I would definitely visit this bakery again and highly recommend.

Atmosphere - Mom and Pop, limited English, a convenience store and a bakery meet Service - Friendly, speaking limited English, helpful Food - The bakery had a decent selection of pastries. I saw some familiar Mexican pastries here, like Sweet Concha (chocolate) and Novia; however, most of the selections were a mystery. I ended up getting three items (see pic). Two were turnovers filled with a strawberry like jam and the third item was a slice of buttery sweet raisin filled bread that reminded me a bit of Polish Paska bread. Everything I tried was tasty and not overly sweet. I ate the turnovers first and had the bread the next day. The bread had an excellent aroma of mostly butter with a hint of anise. In fact, this may have been Mexican anise bread. After eating the bread, I immediately had wishes for another piece so I could toast it with some butter and sugar on top! I am sure the bread is awesome when fresh from the oven. Overall - The Tojo International Bakery reminded me of the ethnic bakeries I miss up in the northeast. This place is definitely on my list to try again the next time I am in or near Newton, NC.
