This review is about the REDONDO UNION AQUATIC CENTER SWIMMING POOL and both the Public Pool Access and the Summer Swimming Lessons as well as the lead contact, RAMONA CARISTO the Aquatic Center Coordinator. This is located on the campus of Redondo Union High School. RAMONA is such a wonderful person. Very polite, helpful and professional. We've known her for the many years we've enrolled in the Summer Swimming Lessons for Kids. The staff, during the Summer, I suspect and assume are qualified lifeguard caliber student employees. They've all been very good with the children/kids they teach as student swimmers. The front gate staff are always very welcoming and cheerful. It's an overall great environment that Ramona has created for the Aquatic Center. Weekend swimming, when open to the public is well organized. The clientele (customer) patron swimmers have been respectful and polite using the facilities, such as sharing lanes. Parking can be both easy and challenging depending on whatever activities are going on on-campus, whether sports games, rally/gatherings or anything else. It's a family friendly environment.

The 1:1 sessions have helped us to understand how our daughter processes information and has made her very confident in her abilities. Homework (except for special projects) is done at the school after each class where there is a teacher available for support. This really helps reinforce the class learning and creates less stress at home. The 1:1 teaching means that the courses are completed much more quickly than at a traditional school leaving a lot more time for extra-curricular activities and even extended family travel. All of that said, this is a very unique private school experience which isn't right for every kid and situation but for our needs, it has been perfect!

There are so many positives to share. The one-on-one teaching is excellent. The quality of the teachers is very high but my son is also understanding the school work so much more as he is able to ask questions right away but at the same time there is no place to hide in the class. The teachers are also very supportive, they want you to understand the work and it feels more like a partnership. There are also more course options available, which given my sons interest in computing, he has been able to take classes like Cybersecurity in addition to the usual AP computer classes, and is planning on taking Animation in his final year. The school is also very flexible as there has been times he has had to move classes around or reschedule classes due to things like illness, and it has been very easy to do that. What we have really learned as a family is that there are many school options available to your kids, and if you find the right one, like we have for our son, it can really change them in a positive way.

However, where SBCS leaves other schools in the dust is what they manage to achieve OUTSIDE the classroom. Class size allows the faculty to focus on EVERY student and their needs. No one gets lost in the crowd. That means if your child is dealing with any issues, they'll be noticed and get the attention they should get. This school is all about teaching to the whole individual. Learning to handle responsibilities, conflict, impulse control--the faculty have it under control. If you don't just want your child to grow up a competent math student, then this is where they should go to school. They'll learn how to be moral, caring, thoughtful, and self-aware people (who are also good at math or English or ...!). They've also had a new principal for two years now, Kirstin Born, who taught for twenty-five years before assuming the top position. You couldn't ask for a more savvy, sensitive, experienced person to guide the school. She bends over backwards to meet the needs and requests of her students' families. You won't complain about crickets if you approach Mrs. Born with any concerns. SBCS is great for any student, but it is a gift to students who need extra attention and personalized care in the hands of loving, experienced teachers and administrators.

The teachers and staff are so loving and compassionate--they care about each student, not just academically, but as a whole person. The school focuses on strong values and character building, helping kids grow into kind, responsible individuals. Two years after graduating, my daughter is thriving in high school. SBCS always felt like a big family, and the friendships we made there will last a lifetime.
