I wish they had longer hours, but I realize this is just one location, and I'm fortunate the library is open at all during these covid times.
So while covid is in full swing, I'm using the library's website to place holds on books I want to read. It used to be I could just want in, pick them off the hold shelf, check out at the self check out, and buy have to interact with anyone. I loved that because I don't like worrying that I'm bothering anyone or taking up their time, even though I know that's what they're there for. I also miss picking up random books and finding them that way. Maybe some day we will get back to that. In the meantime... I go online, look for a book I want, place a hold, wait until I'm notified it's ready, pull into the parking lot, call, give them my card number, they check it out to me, where the cart out to me containing my book, step away. I get out of my car, pick up my book, thank them, drive off. Then when I'm done, I can drop it off in the drop box, where it takes a few days for them to check it back in, while waiting for the cooties to fall off of it. I love that they aren't charging any late fees for anything checked out right now. That's very convenient, because life is chaotic right now, and between that, and giving books time to de-contaminate before checking back in, just makes sense. Makes me feel safe.
I appreciate all they're doing, trying to make sure everyone is as safe as possible, and we still get our literacy on during these difficult times.
Yay for the library! read more
