Hospital is horribly mismanaged. Had a scheduled appointment pick up for an at home sleep study... scheduled for 4 months... got it tonight and it was dead... nothing about charging it... no charger with it... there was no one anywhere to guide you on where to go... the one elevator is definitely broken, the door almost opened on us... and they treat you like your crazy when you say you are picking up an at home sleep study assuming you just said you are picking up a patient... like no.... I just said I'm picking up a machine... I never wanted to take a psych patient home.... The lady who gave me the sleep study was very kind though. Even though it's really bad and horribly mismanaged, I do have to say they are the kindest doctors I've met. I'm calling in the morning about my dead sleep study though... supposed to be returned tomorrow but I don't even get to do the test it's absolutely ridiculous. There should never be this level of mismanagement anywhere let alone a hospital.... Someone needs to get this staff some help... they're kind just horribly understaffed... Edit: went back today and they were really nice about everything and the lady's there today were very knowledgeable. ER Doctors were okay nursing staff was god awful. Presented to the ER, doctor order scans due to a concern over a severe infection. 4 hours later, no scans, and they weren't busy, so I asked if I was forgotten about, they said oh something must have happened. Sent me 10 minutes later for one scan , not the chest X-ray. An hour passes and I press the button again and asked about the chest XRay and they acted bothered, then 10 minutes later was sent for the chest XRay. Doctor finally discharged me7 or 8 hours later (which I get can be normal if they're busy...this was not the case). He printed my discharge paperwork and said he would let the nurse know to remove my IV and give me the discharge instructions. 20 minutes later I had to remove all of my monitors and walk to the nurses station and the women are all sitting around on their phones gossiping. I asked if someone could remove my IV. The charge nurse came in finally and I voiced my concerns with why the heck it took so long all night and then another 20 minutes and no one bothered to come help me get discharged. She decided it would be appropriate to say, "Since you are being particular, it's actually only been 17 minutes". Great care... I would probably still be there if I hadn't forced them to get up off of their phones. Horrible experience. It only takes a little bit of effort to give a crap about your job. read more

Recently hospitalized for ten days with pneumonia the a further one day for diabetic complications from the same. Great attentive staff struggling to keep necessary local hospital open. I will do everything I can to assist, Beaver area needs to keep this health facility. Negatively, however, this is the first hospital I have seen without a chapel, chaplain, or pastoral care staff. read more

Definitely do not recommend. The waiting times are so long, they don't bother to fully examine you when you finally get a room. They draw blood with ripped gloves, finger fully exposed and do not bother changing them. The nurse walked in didn't use hand sanitizer, didn't wash her hands or use gloves and grabbed the medication out of a cup and put it inside the patients mouth. Crazy read more

Do not go to this hospital. There is no quality care. Just talk to the nurses. When I told my dad's primary care how his Dr. was treating him, he said to take him out of there now! So, we pulled him out (AMA) brought him home, then had to have the ambulance come pick him up later and take him to Sewickley Hospital in time, so that he didn't die. We also discovered they were treating him for the wrong type of diabetes the entire week! They don't know what they're doing in there! Please go somewhere else! read more

I've been to this hospital about 4 times in the past 3 years. Everytime was a long wait but they saved me each time. My wife experienced rapid heart beat and we rushed to the ER. She was taken into triage immediately and was soon looked at by the NP and MD. After reviewing her history, checking EKG and blood test, they administered an IV beta blocker and within an hour everything was back to normal. We were very happy with all the staff and the fast results. Good care for sure. read more

I'm adding once again to my previous review, remember I told you I left after a 7 hr wait in the ER & I NEVER saw a doctor, well low and behold the ER doctor on staff that day had the brass ones to bill my insurance, and he never saw me, i couldn't pick him out of a crowd.....I immediately called my insurer and told them not to pay the claim as I was never seen by this person, they told me they were in the process of denying the claim.....this is why our insurance is so high, I'm sure this goes on all the time read more

I understand that healthcare is struggling. But this hospital has never been good, even before the name changed. My mother was here for cancer treatment and I feel like the only person who cared was the surgeon. Everyone else acted like we were in the way, or my mom was a bother when she asked for something because the woman who came when she rang for a nurse said "they took my help away tonight, I'm all by myself in this hall." There are at least 12 rooms on this hall. Even if they are all private rooms that's a lot of people in need of help on the shoulders of one woman. I felt so bad for her. UPMC should buy this hospital and whip it into shape. It's so unfortunate that it's the only functioning hospital between Pittsburgh and Grove City. read more

I recently had hip replacement surgery (December 23, 2024)!!! I was singing "All I want for Christmas is My New Hip Joint, My New Hip Joint, My New Hip Joint!!" Anyway . . . . I was extremely fortunate to have Dr. Antholz perform the surgery. I'll bet he never thought he'd play the role of Santa Claus!!! In this case, he and his Elves (Staff) were absolutely amazing!! Not only are Dr. Antholz and his entire staff the most amazing people to do business with, I truly appreciate everything everyone throughout HVHS has done along the way to take care of me. I could not have chosen a better health system of caretakers. I received TOP NOTCH care from Orthopedics; to Heart & Vascular, for some extra pre-surgical testing that I needed ASAP; to Heritage Valley Chippewa, for all other pre-op testing; to Surgical Prep Staff and the wonderful Post-surgery Care Team during my hospital stay; to HVHS Physical Therapy Beaver; and to Foot and Ankle to see Dr. Wize regarding orthotics and lifts for my shoes. I would also like to thank Radiology and Front Desk Operators, as well as the Scheduling and Billing Departments, which are behind the scenes and often forgotten in reviews. I truly hope that I did not leave anyone out. If so, you should assume they did a great job; if not, I'm sure I would remember!! What impressed me the most were the uplifting personalities throughout the ENTIRE Heritage Valley System, even if/when there was/were any sort of bumps in the road, I cannot recall a one instance when anyone dropped the ball or made me feel as though I was a nuisance. I felt very much cared for throughout my entire hip replacement process and will ALWAYS refer people to HVHS. read more

Worst ER experience ever, not that I frequent ER's. I waited 31/2 hours, after being sent there by Heritage urgent care, with possible appendicitis or blockage. I left without being seen. I've heard nothing but horror stories from all other people that I know who have gone there as well. I rushed my friend to the emergency room because of this skin condition that's in a bad area and the male doctor that took a look rolled his eyes, was extremely rude about her situation, grabbed a girl nurse to take a look and she said absolutely nothing but gave dirty stares. she clearly needed to get it removed and they only sent her home with pain medicine. respectfully if that's not the job for you then you shouldn't be working there. i'll gladly drop the doctor and nurses name if anyone would like to avoid them. read more

I became alarmed when I was given (my choice) potassium. The pill was very large and I felt I was choking. At first I couldn't talk, then yelled out "I'm choking"! The nurse, Steve, said "you're NOT choking-youre sitting up and you can talk". Feeling as if you're going to choke is very scary, and when the nurse was condescending, telling you you're not choking, it is not reassuring! read more

I was sick for three months with what felt like the flu, it was some kind of infection. I finally went to Heritage Valley and I was there for 5 hours! During this time they never found out what was wrong, they lost my blood sample twice & while taking the blood two times it was the most painful blood draw I have ever had. After waiting all day for an answer I was told there was nothing wrong with me! I had mentioned that I was going to New Orleans the next day & hoped to be well so I could walk around for tours & things. The nurse told me that even though they could find nothing wrong with me, I should go out and get drunk in New Orleans And that the alcohol should "blast that illness right out of your system." The bill was $1200.00 for no cure. I went straight to another urgent care after I left there, they gave me antibiotics & I healed within two days. It was an infection after all, which I knew. I get that they can't just prescribe antibiotics if they don't officially know what is wrong. However, urging someone who is already sick to go out and drink when they have an infection is quite unprofessional to say the least. In that case it could have proven deadly, especially for someone who was sick for an extended period of time. Making fun of someone when your own hospital can't find their illness is insane. read more

Gina They really need to shut this place down! Horrible! This place is run like a mill! My first time visiting this hospital and Waited 3 hours to get a room. From the beginning with The women in intake, she was rude and huff and puffed when she had to type a few extra keys! Her co-worker she needed help from was nice and understanding. I think her and the women who draw my blood were the only two nice ppl working here! Then when I got into my room they decided to do a ct scan with contrast which ended infiltrated and my arm blow up 5x bigger . while getting my ct scan the radiologist took it upon her self to reinsert an iv in my other arm while laying there nervous already and hurting me to the point I let out a loud scream. I was told that they were just trying to get the test done. No compassion no empathy and a lot of eye rolling! I could hear a male doctor in the hallway talking about other patients in rooms! My doctor didn't seem to care! Again no empathy! Very short and dry and didn't care if I understood what was going on. At one point they had someone come in to put medicine into my iv with no consent and not explaining. Just started doing it! I was so dissatisfied and disgusted with my trip here! I went there at 2:00 AM on 9/19/2021 for my Aunt. The Lady Receptionist was helping people in the door and put a fresh bandage on some guy. A nurse named Steve and the Doctor were great! I would give Shawn five stars alone for being so efficient while changing her fluids and explaining things like the doctor did. I highly recommend. i recently visited this hopital on multiple occasions and I was very disappointed! While my fiance was staying on the maternity floor there was an instance where she fell after receiving a surgery and no nurses came to her aid for a about 30 minutes she was stuck on the floor. My newborn daughter also got oral thrush while in the care( or should I say lack of) in their nursery. A majority of the staff were either rude, unprofessional, or a combination of the two. My father was taken to emergency at noon on a Friday due to a fall. He spent 9 hours on a gurney with no pillow. The doctors verified his medication list but he was not given his meds. He had not eaten before arriving and finally around 6:00 was given a microwave meal. He was waiting for transfer to a rehab facility and no one knew when that would happen. I wish they would have at least gotten him into a hospital bed so he could be comfortable while he waited. read more

Got there at 2 o'clock Ended up getting Admitted got a bed at 9 o'clock at night At 1st the nurses were nice Then the problem started a couple hours later At 1st it was OK she got no help from the nurses. Took my wife to emergency room for kidney stones. They didn't even tell her she also had gall stones. There was dried blood (not hers) in the room and the table. From what I could tell, the hospital's fill rate was low when I showed up at the ER. They were all too eager to admit me and milk the heck out of my Medicare. Throughout the visit there I was treated like a useless old hag. This was beyond insulting. I told them, repeatedly, that I'd had a major blow to my head over a week previously that had not resolved. They never examined the gashes in my scalp nor the other bruises I mentioned. Apparently touching a person on public assistance scares them! I told them repeatedly about my current, ongoing minor medical condition, and asked them to repeat it back to me and tried to ensure they knew what it was. They consistently "forgot" my self-reporting of this condition, or misheard me as saying "diabetes." I am not diabetic! Furthermore, I did not complain of vomiting nor had I had nausea, not prior to my ER visit, nor during. Yet they gave me Reglan IV without informed consent! This drug is so dangerous, full of FDA warnings, that it should never be given arbitrarily like that! The nurse outright lied to me saying the IV Benadryl was for headache, then gave me the Reglan IV, mumbling something about "for your stomach." She also claimed the "doctor ordered it." I have every reason to believe this dangerous drug was given to me in error! While I got no exam I also got no formal interview, nothing except asking my address and date of birth. You'd think that prior to their decision to admit, they'd do both of these? No, their priority was to use me as a cash cow, as at the time they had many empty beds. I refused admission due to their gross incompetency, shocking rudeness and disrespect, and the fact that they consulted me, the patient, about my medical status, but instead, relied on obscure ophthalmology records from almost a year ago (which apparently trumped anything I had to say). They did check me for stroke. Negative. They also claimed the head injury was "nothing" based on their CAT scan ONLY. As I said, I never received an exam. It was beyond hopeless trying to explain to these utter fools that maybe they should have asked the patient. I knew deep inside that had I agreed to admission they would have continued to give poor care resulting in medical harm. I couldn't risk it On my way out the nurse, who apparently had not heard I had already signed myself out, was rushing to get me admitted. That fast? Then she tried to give me an exam! Now? Why? I refused, knowing their plan was to later fudge my records and claim the exam she was now trying to give me was my initial ER exam. I am wondering how they'll alter my records to cover up what was obviously patient harm. I was more than happy to sign AMA papers and quickly get myself out of there. I believe I saved my own life by doing so. I am still dealing with ongoing pain from the head injury and unknown pelvic injury, but thankfully they are both slowly resolving. read more

The Nurse that treated me was named David and I cannot say more nice things about that man. He did all he possibly could for me and inspired me to start looking at careers in the medical field. Heritage Valley owns all the doctors here in the Valley. You quickly get the impression that they don't really want your doctor to get to know you as a person, but would prefer that you take your silly illness to one of their Convenient Care facilities and stop bothering them. I had a good relationship with my previous doctor (who retired), and I wonder whether my husband would still be alive if it had been he who had seen him towards the last, since he had exhibited concern on numerous occasions (to the point of even calling us PERSONALLY at home), was familiar with my husband's medical history, and really cared. The latest: The doctor's office was supposed to be open (according to what they had told me before and what their pre-recorded message said), but it was strangely and inexplicably closed when I called at 3. Incidentally, they close for lunch between 12 and 1, because the concept of staggering lunches to provide service to customers during that time (a concept well-known to most businesses) seems to escape them. If this is the trend of internal medicine, I am glad I am old enough to remember when patients were more than just meat to their doctors, and you could get an appointment to have the doctor see you when you were sick and not just one or two times a year for your routine check-up. read more

this hospital in general isn't the best... considering 45 minutes away there are a ton of good hospitals in the city. I came here to visit a friend in the behavioral health unit. The visiting times on a Saturday were 2-3. All guests had to wait until security came up. Finally he showed up at 2:15. After everyone went through metal detector, its was close to 2:20 yet we still had to leave at 3. The behavioral unit does a terrible job at keeping patients busy. There is only 1 hour that the arts and crafts area is opened. The rest of the time, sad, depressed, anxious patients just have to walk up and down the halls like zombies hoping that one day they can find happiness again. Lunch is 1130 and dinner isn't until after 5. no snacks or anything offered in between except water. it looked like a prison in there but it was supposed to be a place where depressed patients go to get better. don't get me started on the long wait times at the ER....... read more

Okay so let me start off by saying that I have not had many experiences at this "hospital", however the times I did were horrific. Unfortunately it was labor & delivery unit thank goodness this was not my first pregnancy and reason for that is the nurses are absolutely miserable! They have NO personality and don't even know what happened on the shifts before them. It was as though they lacked communication among the other nurses and any question I had they "did not know what happened on the shift before them" seriously pathetic! I would highly advise first time mothers please do not have your first experience of giving birth at this so called "hospital". My mother's wedding ring "disappeared" during her stay. She was brought in in an ambulance, wearing her ring, and needed surgery. After a 4 day stay, SOME of her jewelery was returned, her wedding ring and an aquamarine ring were not. No one I spoke to seems to be concerned with the apparent issue, it seems there is a THIEF STEALING FROM ELDERLY INCAPACITATED PATIENTS AT HERITAGE VALLEY HOSPITAL. Since no one will attempt to help in finding it or offering any type of solution, I needed the public to know they are not only MEDICALLY INCOMPETENT but THIEVES. First off I know what nurses and doctors are going through with covid but when you have other patients there with other life threatening illness and they are not being taking care of is where I have a problem! I have a family member there now and the care he is getting sucks. The nurses dont want to help you. When I got there today my family member didn't get his lunch so I called to put in his lunch order. Well it came but I didn't get anything I ordered. So his nurse said no problem I will get him what he wants. I had to leave and he never got his lunch and his nurse just didn't care even though he promised me he would get his lunch. I know this sounds petty but my family member is not doing good. But as I was walking out I couldn't believe how many of your employees where in the cafe enjoying there lunch while my family member just wanted his lunch. The care there is horrible!!! read more

I got a call from my Mom on July 11th that my Gram was in critical care, so I flew in from San Diego to visit. We spent many, many hours there, in the purgatory that is Critical Care Waiting Facility, but the doctors and nurses were always patient and nice. (Excluding one nurse that snapped at my mom because the "visiting hours" weren't going to start for another 30 minutes, which isn't really acceptable when your immediate family is dying, but beyond that everyone was sweet.) I don't want to think about this place any more, and I want to say that there was a Happily Ever After, but on July 17th we made the decision that no one should ever have to make. So uh, it was the most exhausting and terrible process of my entire life thus far, but the staff was nice, the food was decent, and the comfort level was good. My Grandma had to come here and I could only say good things about the Cardiac unit. Call lights were answered in a timely manner, rooms were clean and not smelly. The staff was friendly prompt and very accommodating. My Grandma has 6 kids and yes they were visiting her all the time thorough out the day sometimes at the same time and I too (the granddaughter) was in attendance and the staff was very helpful to bring extra chairs and did not ask us too leave even though Im sure we exceeded the limit. The doctors too were very helpful and understanding of the children and care of their mother. I would endorse this hospital to those in need. (not that anyone wants to go to the hospital) read more

Have been here in the ER MANY times. Today was so bad I decided to write my first Internet review ever!!!! I went in because for 3 weeks both of my knees have been swollen and painful. We are without insurance so I didn't make an orthopedic appointment and went to the ER as a very last resort. I told the PA and DR about the long standing pain and swelling. I also told them that it was steadily getting worse. They gave me an xray of both knees (which I will have to mortgage my house for) and told me I have fluid in my knees with severe arthritis. Their advice? Go see a DR!!!!!!!! Yes? Go see a Dr!! No meds for pain or to relax the muscles. No draining of the fluid. Just the goodly advice to see a Dr. Silly me! I thought I was at the Dr but clearly I stumbled into a zoo or shoe outlet. Because the guy manning the cash register at a shoe store would have told me to see a Dr!!!!! So now I am expecting a bill for $800 because the professionals at Heritage Valley Beaver were good enough to share their medical opinion that I need to see a Dr! Well thank God those folks went to years of medical school and on the job training or they may not have had the knowledge to tell me to go see a Dr!!!! Also, I want to be clear, they referred me to my PCP not my orthopod. So it's not like they told me I need a specialist. They merely told me to see another general practice Dr who will then advise me to see my orthopod. In the meantime I will just suffer the two weeks until my orthopod can squeeze me in and relieve my pain read more

my granddaughter went to the er, per a rep from a support team.she went to a psyc eval.they sat for hours. the er dr said the mental health team, would be down to evaluate her.no one came down at all. at 11pm my daughter asked if she could take her home, because she was feeling better,he had no problem with it. he knew nothing and did nothing to help her or even talk to her .good thing a rep from another organization was with my daughter..even the discharge papers, were just thrown on the bed, by the nurse and she said nothing. thank God she has support from another organization, that actually cares about minors, in distress. what a sham of an operation. but a bill will be sent through, and nothing done.next time we will pick any hospital other that hertiage valley beaver. you did nothing, so don't send a bill......... read more
