This weekend we attended a basketball tournament and stayed at the Heritage Inn where our teams have been staying since my oldest child played ball. I had booked a room online which gave me a free breakfast at the cafe (this was not a buffet set-up) and I was limited to only five choices from their menu. I am a vegetarian and all the choices included meat. I chose an omelette which arrived half cooked but the hash browns were great so I ate those and ate around the runny egg parts. My daughter, who is also a vegetarian came to the cafe after I left with her team mates. To avoid limited menu choices, I gave her cash so she could pick anything from the menu and left to pack my belongings. She ordered a breakfast sandwich and as all vegetarians/vegans do, she emphasized to her server that she is vegetarian and wanted no meat. The cafe was busy and her table waited 45 mins for their order to arrive but my daugheter's order had bacon in it. She emphasized again to her server that she was vegetarian and wanted a new sandwich. Her server came back with what she thought was the right order and after eating half her sandwich discovered that instead of making a new sandwich they tried to pull the bacon out unsuccessfully. She was obviously sick and disgusted but she works as a food server too and thought she knew how to handle a difficult situation appropriately. My daughter called over the 'acting manager' and informed her that she is a vegetarian and got the wrong order twice AND she ate half of it. This woman put her hand in my daughter's face and said "Whatever, I will go get your server" and stormed off. My daughter was so upset about the lack of empathy but even worse was how the 'manager' humiliated her in front of a busy cafe. She walked away in tears and thankfully one of the other parents came to her defence and told the manager that there was no way she was paying for her meal. To add insult to injury, the 'manager' and the server were still gossiping about it in front of other people who they didn't know were a part of our team. We will never stay here again and this doesn't include the fact that my fridge in the room didn't work, even though they claim they have room service and charge 15% more for it you still have to go pick up your order yourself and even though I counted 5 people sitting in the Housekeeping Room, you will have to get your own towels if they don't provide you with any upon arrival. read more
