The one in The Plains , Virginia Is an outstanding school (lower school, Middle and high school). The school has a diverse population of bright, enthusiastic students and teachers. The Head Master is supportive and is always ready to meet with parents to help with any concerns parents or students may have. The curriculum is challenging and creative. My granddaughter was enrolled in order to benefit from small classes and stimulating courses. It is the best decision our family has ever made! As a former teacher, I recommend it highly! PAt C.

The admins and teachers all seem wonderfully pleasant, and the kids that leave in the afternoon when I go to pick up mine all seem very happy. The assistant principal is especially sweet; I speak to her briefly most mornings. The school does seem a bit iffy on extracurricular activities. There are some; my daughter is currently in an after school art program. However, availability seems to be intricately tied to the husband/wife led PTO's funding and approval. This seems to lead to a lot of talking about activities, but little response when asked for details. We tried to volunteer for a host of activitiesast year, but never heard back. Perhaps if we went to more PTO meetings, that might change, but the one I did go to left me feeling as though the open policy was one of "come in and see how we do things," rather than "come in and participate." I don't know how common this is. We had PTAs when I grew up. Still, the school itself shows a lot of promise. I'm pleased as punch that they still provide art, music, and PE in this day and age. I feel safe sending my daughter in each morning, and even try to volunteer whenever I can.

Our daughter is not academically inclined and Oakcrest is an elite college preparatory school. With that being said, we have asked on several occasions if she wishes to explore easier alternatives. She refuses to and has cried over it because of how much she loves her teachers and her friends. Our family and extended family have joined efforts in investing in our daughter's education at Oakcrest specifically in hopes that she will form into a beautiful, young lady and that she will have a safe place to learn about God, to love herself, and to build friendships that last a life time. The smiles and cheerfulness is not just on brochures, it's actually in person as well! How incredible it is to see the girls are so happy here at this school. By following the Opus Dei teachings, the school has been able to be mindful of what those teachings really mean as they've built a culture surrounding it. The social norms and mainstream media issues are not completely isolated from the girls, but they definitely are kept at bay. We find this to be vital as the girls already have enough on their plate during these teenage years to navigate through the hormones and self-identity struggles. They know those things exist and they can be exposed later once they've learned who they are and how they want to perceive the media rather than the media having a say over their life. Our family is heavily involved in the school functions and appreciate Oakcrest's faculty and staff for their dedication. We would be happy to recommend Oakcrest to others with similar values who are looking to have a Christ-centered education and for the girls to see their personal worth and how that plays a role in living out the sanctity of daily life.

Well. it turns out that what I heard was completely false news. All was going well until my 13 year old child came to me in tears, about a month into the school year. They said that the teachers were assigning way to much homework and it was stressing them out. Since when did my precious child have to worry about stress in 7th grade? Educational resources should not be causing stress this serious of stress. I told my child that it would be okay, to just deal with it. I read a very interesting article on MomBlogs.org about how cranberry juice could boost my child's positivity during the school day. So, I made them drink 24oz of cranberry juice every morning. Did it work? No. My child was still extremely stressed and piled with school work. The teachers were rude and did not help me out with any of my multiple issues I had concerning the school and the way it is run. I pulled my child out of Saint Theresa School because of their growing stress and the horrible effect it had on my child. I will never, ever recommend this school to anyone. No matter of cranberry juice could ever solve this tragic incident of a school.

It was $125 but I had to do that to register and then the class didn't have enough people in it so they cancelled the summer reading course yet wouldn't respond to my emails to refund my assessment fee. We found such a more welcoming and amazing Montessori school just a few minutes down the road where our child prospered and is now excelling in elementary.

I begged to be let into public school like my neighborhood friends the last three years of elementary school and even as a kid I was blown away by how much better the local public school was. You would think a private school would have more resources than a public school but this is not the case in Fairfax County where our education system is ballin. Many many many moons later, I had a friend who enrolled her kid in a private religious school and ended up moving him to public school a year later for the exact same reason I stated. The one thing that was awesome / appalling about St. Tim's was their utter disrespect for healthy school lunches in the 90's. We are enrolling our son for his second year, and he just finished Summer Camp here. We also plan to enroll our younger son when he is old enough. We love the teachers. They communicate well and work hard to prepare the students for kindergarten. The classes are structured, so that the students have a main teacher with her assistant, but they get to interact with all the teachers and students as they spend time in all the classrooms at some point in the day. My son really took to this. Also, being able to drop off and pick up using their "carpool" technique is super convenient. I love not having to get out and drag out my sleeping baby in order to pick up or drop off my preschooler. It is a real luxury at times. St. Timothy's preschool sits on a large landscaped campus and is very conveniently located close to Fairfax County Parkway which makes it fast enough that we get there from Great Falls in 15 minutes. It's perfect for families in Reston, Sterling and even parts of Ashburn or Vienna. Definitely check it out.
