I used to attend this church regularly and serve on several ministry groups. I don't ever expect to…read morefully align with any church home 100%, but when a politician walked onto the "stage" ( bc that's what it was at that point) and campaigned, I left. Separate church and State. It's a mistake to mix the two. Also, the quality of the church went downhill through the torrent of pastors and settled on one who doesn't fit the area or my needs. By my standards, he's a stale, pale, male, and his preaching was exclusionary. His answer would be (I've heard it) to "don't ask him, ask God; read your Bible." I have. I'm glad not to have the leadership of souls in my hands, it's true. However, when I arrived at this church, I was so impressed with the teaching and the ability to remain silent where the Bible remains silent on topics. I specifically remember Lon saying, "Where the Bible is silent, we can have opinions, but we must remain silent as leaders and counsel prayer." It's clear that Lon has opinions. He's made them clear and public now, but not when I attended MBC. When that ended, so did my attendance at this church.

I love this church. I love the worship. I love the person who hollers-- it's encouraging! I love…read morethe cultural diversity and the way people worship God. I was mainly drawn to MBC due to the sermons- great overall and they don't shy away from difficult topics. I can see David Platt's heart for the lost. The only thing that I've found difficult is building community with peers that are similar age range (30's) and life stage (they do small groups by location, not age... but this could a pro as well).

Everything about this church is great. If you're looking for a great place for worship, but you…read moredon't have to dress up and worry about being judged (even though church is really the last place anyone should be judged...but I'll keep that thought to myself)..then you should definitely come check out New Life. I literally have come in my gym clothes and I never feel out of place. This is a non-denominational Christian church located in Chantilly in a fairly new location. They have their own coffee shop, a kids area, and the service is held in a basketball court. They also provide free coffee and snacks before each service! There are three service times available every Sunday, which I absolutely love that they give you options. The singers are seriously amazing. You'll be blown away. A lot of people think that church is boring and honestly don't truly enjoy going...but if you come to New Life, they will change your mind on that. The pastors are knowledgeable and funny. They truly break down the meaning of Bible verses and incorporate it into real life situations. If you've always been uneasy about going to church..seriously give this place a try. They even have a live stream! So, you can watch the service from the comfort of your home.

The church doesn't tell you what to believe or not believe about God/Divinity. We just work together to be good people and make the world a better place. I love this congregation in particular because the people are so good hearted and the vibe reminds me of the church that I attended years ago in another state. I have two children 12 and 14. They have been attending the religious education program for kids since they were little and I am very happy with the progressive religious education they have received. The worship services vary in content and a bit in style. The summer services are pretty casual and led by people in the congregation. It's best to come to a few services to get a full idea of UUCR.

Then you might be a Global Nomad: "A global nomad is anyone of any nationality who has lived outside their parents' country of origin (or their "passport country") before adulthood because of a parent's occupation." -- Norma McCaig Norma, a "business-brat" who had fond memories of her childhood in India and the Philippines, and the founder of Global Nomads International and the term "global nomad," passed away on November 10, 2008, after a four year battle with bone cancer. Her memorial service was held at her local church last Sunday. Sitting at her service, with her art on the walls, listening to her friends and family talk about her spiritual life, her artistic life, her job life, I realized how little I knew about this diminutive redhead -- because she was always much more fascinated with everyone else -- instead of telling her own story. As one Global Nomad said, "I know I am a Global Nomad because Norma told me I am." Norma created a global family, a tribe, an identity for "Third Culture Kids," "military brats," "diplo brats," "corporate brats" and "global mutts." Norma would definitely tell you that the next president of the U.S. is a Global Nomad. He too would have been welcome. After the service, we met around the feast tables burgeoning with treats from all over the world, watched over by Norma's portrait, part of this church's universal welcome.
