The esthetician I met with said the keratoses should be burned off instead of lasered. I was very fortunate because the PA, Drea, had a no show and was able to do my treatment. She was so sweet and explained everything very well. Price was very reasonable. Will definitely return for future treatments.

Absolutely no fault to the practitioner, sometimes things just don't work! I was given a refund, but when I called to schedule another appointment, I was told I was not allowed back for services. You can imagine my shock and embarrassment! I have never been treated this way by any business, nor have I heard of a business behaving in such an appalling manner to clients. For cosmetic services, I find it important to develop a relationship with one practitioner. Stephanie is the only person I see because she's excellent and so lovely. So sad to say, but if this business makes a mistake on their end, they ban clients. Please bear that in mind before scheduling an appointment -- there is a zero tolerance policy on complaints.

I typically receive private athletic massages from a certified athletic trainer at a private university, but two Christmases ago, I received a gift card to Hand and Stone. I wasn't sure what the amount on the gift card was, so when I visited the Durham location off MLK in December 2025, I was told it was worth $150, which covered two 50-minute massages. Great, I thought. Fast forward to February, when I looked to make another massage appointment. I called on Wednesday, Feb. 18, to confirm the card's value, and I was told it would cover an entire 50-minute massage. I also visited in person to make the appointment on Thursday, Feb. 19, and was told there was $50 remaining on the gift card, which would cover another 50-minute massage. On that day, a woman in a hijab made the next appointment for Sunday, Feb. 22, and I was not required to make any additional payments. I later found out I could not make the appointment and decided to transfer the experience to my sister. I returned to the location on Saturday, Feb. 21, around 1:35 p.m. to make the change. When I asked to make the change, the $50 remaining balance was brought up again. I politely explained what I had been told and that I was already booked for 50 minutes with no additional fees. Once again, I was working with the woman in the hijab. She went back to speak with her manager. Upon her return, she told me the gift card did not cover another massage and blamed the misinformation on another coworker, Sam. I asked what it covered, and she said nothing. I asked how much I needed to pay for a full massage; she stated it would be $79. Despite my hesitation, given that the previous massage cost $100, I paid so my sister would have the best experience. But the most scathing and inappropriate aspect of the experience was the laughter by the other employees upon my exit, exhibited by the woman in the hijab, the manager, another desk receptionist (both white), and a checkout receptionist (Black). As a marketing, communications, and brand executive who understands the importance of a company's frontline actions, this was an extremely frustrating and disturbing interaction.

Trust me, I'm not one of those people that dreamed of having cosmetic plastic surgery growing up, so I worked out like a crazy person trying to get rid of it - but I couldn't tighten up that sagging 2 inches of skin that was hanging over my waistline. After my surgery, 2 years ago now, I was not given drains. I was told (post-op) that that was because I was "dry". To this day, I'm not sure what that means. Following the initial surgery, I had to go back 3Xs within 2 weeks because my body was starting to accumulate fluid in my abdomen area. The nurses drained the fluid as I lay on a table by pressing on my stomach forcing the fluid from a small opening they had to re-cut and re-open to drain. After my 3rd visit, I requested to have drains put in. The drains were removed about two weeks later and I thought everything was fine. It wasn't. I noticed fluid start to accumulate again, but not as much as before. Over time, the fluid hardened and I developed scar tissue. I raised my concerns and I was made to feel like "it'll be fine, just give it some time". I felt like Dr. Erdmann was tired of seeing/hearing me. Well over time, the fluid hardened and I (as a natural born cis male), appeared to be 3-4 months pregnant. The Aesthetic center was contacted and I was seen and had a scar removal surgery at Duke. I requested up-front that the drain be put in no matter how "dry" things may look. I drained for 2 weeks and the drains were removed. Again, I began to develop fluid but this time, it was jelly like. I thought "I'll give it time". I'm pregnant again. I'm going to have to have another surgery (not by Dr. Erdmann) b/c at this point, I am officially botched. I regret having the surgery and had I known this, I would have just lived with the 2 inches of saggy skin. I've been on this journey for almost 2 years now... Things to note: 1. Don't go to Duke Aesthetic Center 2. Don't go to Dr. Erdmann 3. You should plan to have a scar revision surgery whether you have to have it or not, so that any scar tissue can be removed. Most surgeons like to correct the line where they cut you the first time now that your body has had time to adjust and heal. 4. Get your massages after surgery. I was NEVER told about these but these help with the fluid accumulation and cause the fluid to not to harden. I've been told from another surgeon that they are not the most pleasant massages you'll ever have, but you'll want to make sure you have them. Again, I WAS NEVER TOLD ABOUT THIS at the Aesthetic center. The only time I ever met with the Esthetician was to be sold the silagen scar strips. 5. Dr. Erdmann has NO bedside manner. I'm not saying he's rude, it just "feels" like he doesn't care. 6. The nursing staff is great, however, they're not the ones performing the surgery. 7. Do your research!

My experience here was so bad that 20 years later I still remember it as if it happened yesterday…read more I went there for electrolysis to remove a unibrow. My hair was so thick the aesthetician placed a single hair on a piece of gauze and told me she'd be right back. She went to the aesthetician next door, asked her to come out and together they stood outside my door laughing and gawking at how thick the hair was. I was so humiliated I sat in the exam room holding my head debating whether I should leave. I was determined to have the unibrow removed so I stayed. But when she came back to the room she removed hair around my brows permanently making them super thin and left the unibrow. She insisted I go elsewhere for hair removal. It was horrible. I hope she reads this to know how inappropriate and offensive her behavior was. I tried to complain but the office manager blamed me saying I was a "bad" patient. In a second visit, I met with a plastic surgeon to have a cyst removed, but the office manager and security insisted on being in the exam room when the doctor examined me. At that, I left and never returned. Horrible, horrible experience all around...

With the summer ahead and the humidity rising here in the south, I needed to find a professional. I stumbled upon Anes Hendricks and her versatile skillset on instagram. She does it all. Natural curls, Locs, braids, silk press, cuts, color. You name it! While this area of Durham is a 29 minute commute from home, it was well worth the visit. This is not a salon but a beauty spa. They offer so much with ambiance to match. They offer nail spa services, in addition to barbers and stylists. The salon suites are very spacious. Parking is easy, customer service is great. Everyone is professional and the noise level is low considering it is a shared space amongst professionals. When you enter a receptionist greets you. I booked a hot steam scalp detox treatment, and crochet box braid style. My wash and hot steam service was heavenly. 30 minutes of pure relaxation. Anes treats your shampoo service like she is a massage therapist. She is meticulous. She even turned off the lights for my steam treatment and put on relaxing mood lighting. Anes took her time discussing my hair goals and consulting about the health of my hair currently. It has been a challenge finding the correct products for my natural hair and combating dryness and hard water in the south. She provided recommendations and solutions. I learned that Anes also has a Iheart Radio Apple I-tunes segment on air called Kinky, Curly, Straight. If you're looking for a relaxing, quality salon experience, this is it.
